PROLOGUE

David Adams is the principal of Sim City High. He decides to call an assembly this afternoon. As the students are taking their seats, he begins his announcement. "Good afternoon. I just want to make a quick announcement before everyone goes home. Tomorrow there will be no classes scheduled." Principal Adams waits until the cheering stops before continuing, "Instead, tomorrow will be an all day Study Hall as we will be taking photos for the yearbook and I would like for everyone to dress for the occasion. As you know, the gentleman standing next to me is our custodian, Jake Kellerman." Jake waves to the assembly. Stephanie waves back, an action that causes Jake to stare at her through the remainder of the assembly, awestruck by her beauty. Principal Adams continues, "Jake is an amateur photographer and has graciously volunteered his time to take the pictures. The sessions will be held in the lounge area of the cafeteria." As the afternoon bell rings and the students get up to leave, he says, "Class dismissed."

The next day, the students arrive ready to have their pictures taken. Morning passes and finally the moment that Jake has been waiting for arrives. Stephanie Jackson takes her seat on the couch to have her picture taken. She says, "Hi, Jake." He tells her, "Ok give me a nice big pretty smile." She smiles for the camera. A smile that Jake believes is a sexy smile for him and not the camera. The bell rings, signaling the lunch hour. Jake takes the picture and says, "Ok that looks good, we're done. Thanks for coming." Stephanie gets up to leave saying, "Bye Jake." He says, "Bye" admiring her as she leaves.

On his way home from work, Jakes stops by the local one-hour photo to have the pictures developed and burned to a CD. He selects the photo of Stephanie and asks the clerk to enlarge it. While he's waiting he picks out a frame to fit the enlarged photo. Once he arrives home, he places the photo in its frame and mounts it on the wall. Even though he didn't clean anything today, Jake still feels he needs a shower. As he is coming back into the room to get dressed, he stops to admire Stephanie's picture. He caresses the picture and leans in to kiss the object that symbolizes his desires. As his tensions grow, he feels the over powering need to relieve himself.

The next day, Jake arrives at school and submits the photos to the yearbook staff. He leaves the office to get his things together to start his daily routine of cleaning. He came out of one of the bathrooms that he was cleaning and notices two boys standing next to a couple of urine puddles on the floor, laughing. He asks, "What is this?" One of the boys answers, "The bathroom was closed for cleaning and we couldn't wait. Now you get to clean it up." As he starts cleaning, one of the boys yells, "HEY! Watch it, stupid. You're splashing pee on my shoes. I'm telling the principal."

Stephanie is walking to her locker when she hears Randy calling Jake stupid. She asks, "What did you say to him?" He says, "That idiot splashed pee on my shoes." She argues, "Jake would never do anything like that. You're mean, Randy. You're a trouble maker. Now, you tell him you're sorry and leave the poor man alone." Randy pushes Stephanie out of the way saying, "C'mon Ricky. Let's get outta here."

Stephanie turns to Jake saying, "I'm sorry they did this to you." Jake answers, "Don't worry about it, this kind of thing happens all the time." She says, "Jake, you don't have to put up with this. Tell Principal Adams what these kids are doing so he can put a stop to it. Randy and Ricky are bullies, Principal Adams can't do anything about it if he doesn't know what’s going on." He says, "I know you're right, I just don't like getting people into trouble if it's something I can deal with."

Stephanie reassuringly pats his shoulder, saying, "Jake, You're better than that, tell Adams what’s been going on. You don't deserve to be treated that way." He says, "Thanks... um ... I'm sorry, I don't even know your name." She chuckles as she tells him, "Stephanie Jackson. I'm sorry, I thought you knew." He thinks for a moment then asks, "Jackson? Any relation to the ball player, Lawrence Jackson?" She nods her head saying, "He's my father." He smiles and says, "It's nice to meet you Stephanie Jackson." Realizing that she is late for class Stephanie says, "Oh gosh, I'm late for class, I'll see you later."

David just finished talking to two of his students and now he has to do something he doesn't want to do. He asks his receptionist to call Jake into his office. Jake comes in and sits down across from his desk. David says, "I'm sorry to have to do this Jake, but I have to let you go." In a state of shock, Jake asks, "Why? What did I do?" He answers, "I just had a talk with two boys that said you purposely splashed urine on them from your mop. They said you got mad because they were using the bathroom and getting in your way." Jake pleads his case with no results. David responds to the plea, "I'm sorry Jake but I have two against one, I am obligated to side with the majority as my primary concern is my students. I hope you understand." Jakes snaps, "I don't understand, I won't understand." That said, Jake gets up, kicks the chair and leaves the office.

As Stephanie was leaving her last class for the day, she hears an announcement over the PA system, calling her to Administration. She is ushered into Principal Adams' office. He says to her, "Have a seat Miss Jackson." She asks, "What's wrong?" He explains, "Miss Jackson, I have been informed of a tardy slip that was issued to you by Mrs. Thomas. You know the rules about tardiness. I am giving you forty-five minutes of Detention for the next three school days, starting tomorrow." Stephanie pleads, "Please, Mr. Adams, Some bullies were picking on Mr. Kellerman, I made them leave him alone. She explained everything that had happened. He waited until she was finished before saying, "Admirable as your intentions were, you were still late and I have to address the issue of your tardiness. I'll reduce the punishment down to just tomorrow afternoon. Now get going before you miss your bus." She tells him, "I won't miss it. I drove today."

Stephanie is leaving when she runs into Jake. She notices the box in his arms. She asks, "Jake, what's going on? Where are you going?" Jake says, "I got fired." She asks, "Why?" He explains everything to her. He tells her, "Those brats lied about what happened. It's two against one, so Adams is letting me go." She says, "You need to go back in there and fight to get your job back." He responds, "I can't, not after what happened."
