I'm always a bit confused as to what to do with my elder sims. I don't like to leave them living on their own, as they get a bit boring after a while, and then when they die, their house gets all unfurnished, (which is ok, unless they have a massive house that took ages to sort out). I tried having a retirement home, and moved them out of the family home when their kids started their own family - that was ok, but it got a bit samey - they just partied a lot, then died.

Elder sims are actually *really* useful in a family. They can retire, so they stay at home with the babies, they often have lifetime platinum - great for smartmilk. They bring in extra income, they are good at gardening/flower arranging/toymaking. But you still have to accomodate them. My habit now is generally to build a family home with an extra double room for grandparents, but then I think about what life would be like if my parents lived with me.... :S

So I have started building a lot of granny flats, either as separate buildings, or attic conversions. This one is a bit different, the main family home and the granny annexe are joined, like 2 semidetached houses - they are actually completely separate (to move from one to the other sims must leave one house by the front door, walk down the pavement and go into the other).

The main house:
Has a garage, a large garden with patio and a fenced off pond. Downstairs there is a kitchen, a large dining room, a small WC and a bathroom.
Middle floor has a nursery, study and living room.
Top floor has a double room for parents, a bathroom and a twin room for kids.

The Grandparent's house
Has a driveway, but no garage. Has a garden with greenhouse and orchard trees.
Downstairs is a living room, kitchen diner and utility room furnished for a cat.
Upstairs is a large bathroom, the master bedroom, and a spare room, which is unfurnished.

The houses are playably furnished, with curtains, but not by any means fully furnished, and there is plenty room for whatever else you might want to put in there.
