Introduction:
This mod adds two new custom Medieval-era themed careers to the game: A Knight Career and a Peasant Career. The Knight Career has ten levels and allows you to become a Monarch at Level 10 (of one of its two paths) while the Peasant Career has four levels.
So you wish to become a knight? It is not an easy path, but for those that strive for greatness, there can be no greater honour. A knight is a person granted an honorary title of knighthood by a head of the state or church, or representative for service to the monarch, the church or the country, especially in a military capacity. If you work your way from the mud-soaked hovels of peasantry, through the military system and even gain a knighthood yourself, you may even have the chance to seize the throne yourself, if your ambition and skills permit it. But hush! Do not speak of such treasonous things! You may simply wish to serve in the service of the Church, as a knight on a quest to protect pilgrims. – Knight Career Description
The life of a peasant is tough, poorly-paid and (often) miserably short. If a war won't take your life then a disease may certainly do you in. Nonetheless, a kingdom runs on the backs of its peasants (or serfs) and if you work hard enough in the fields you maybe be able to work your way into the mercantile industry and make a bit of a name for yourself. Or else you could join the town guard, as they're always looking for new recruits. – Peasant Career Description
Rabbitholes: The Knight career is situated in the Military Base rabbithole, while the Peasant career is situated in the Grocery Store rabbithole.
Work Tones (Knight):

- Practice Horse Riding (Increases Riding skill) (*Requires a higher level)
- Business as Usual
- Maintain Law and Order (Work Hard)

JOB LEVELS – KNIGHT/MONARCH:
Level 1: Peasant
Wages: §17 per hour - Work Days: Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur - Work Hours: 7AM to 2PM
A peasant is a pre-industrial agricultural laborer or a farmer with limited land-ownership, especially one living in the Middle Ages under feudalism and paying rent, tax, fees, or services to a landlord. In medieval times, three classes of peasants existed: non-free slaves, semi-free serfs, and free tenants. As a peasant, you must serve your lordship, toiling in the fields and paying taxes to those that have power over you, but with enough effort you may even be able to rise above your station and seek glory and power in feudal society.
Level 2: Town Guard
Wages: §28 per hour - Work Days: Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri - Work Hours: 7AM to 2PM
You’ve enrolled in the local Town Militia, as glory on the battlefield is the best chance you have of securing a knighthood. But first, you must do your part in service of protecting the town: As a town miltiaman you will patrol the town’s streets during the day, constantly on the look out for petty theives, lawbreakers, and (in rare occasions) attacks from bandits and raiders. In the event of an invasion of the town, you will be called into action to help defend the people, and lay down your life in the first line of defence if needed. Town Militia are poorly-armoured and poorly-equipped, so it’s not an easy position to be in.
Level 3: Infantryman
Wages: §32 per hour - Work Days: Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri - Work Hours: 7AM to 2PM
You’ve been called into the local levy military in service of your local knight, and now work as a soldier in the monarch’s armies. It’s a sure-fire way to reduce your life expectancy, and if the horror of open warfare doesn’t kill you then the diseases running through the ranks on the front line certainly will. However, showing military distinction will allow you to progress into a position of leadership, and hopefully you’ll avoid the worst of the fighting.
Level 4: Sergeant
Wages: §40 per hour - Work Days: Mon, Tue, Wed, Fr - Work Hours: 7AM to 2PM
You’ve shown distinction on the field of battle, and have been promoted to the position of a sergeant. In the 12th-13th century, a sergeant was a term used for heavier, professional soldiers who were not nobles. The soldier sergeant was a man of what would now be thought of as the 'middle class', fulfilling a slightly junior role to the knight in the medieval hierarchy. Sergeants could fight either as heavy to light cavalry, or as well-trained professional infantry, either spearmen or crossbowmen. Most notable medieval mercenaries fell into the 'sergeant' class, and you are now seeing the more heavier fighting right on the front lines of battle.
Level 5: Page
Wages: §40 per hour - Work Days: Mon, Wed, Fri - Work Hours: 7AM to 2PM
Although you are too old to take traditional knight training, your local Baron has seen great promise in you and has allowed you to take the position of a page in their service. In medieval times, a page was an attendant to a nobleman, a knight or governor.Upon reaching seven years of age, a boy would be sent to the castle, great house or other estate of another noble family. This would match the age at which apprenticeships or servants' employment would be entered into by young males from lower social classes. A young boy served as a page for about seven years, running messages, serving, cleaning clothing and weapons, and learning the basics of combat, including arming and dressing his lord. Personal service of this nature was seen as a form of education in return for labour. While a page did not receive reimbursement other than clothing, accommodation and food, they could be rewarded for an exceptional act of service, and the page would receive training in horse-riding, hunting and combat.
Level 6: Squire
Wages: §40 per hour - Work Days: Mon, Wed, Fri - Work Hours: 7AM to 2PM
In the Middle Ages, a squire was the shield- or armour-bearer of a knight. A squire was typically a young boy, training to become a knight. A boy became a page at the age of 7 then a squire at age 14. Squires were the second step to becoming a knight, after having served as a page. Boys served a knight as an attendant, doing simple but important tasks such as saddling a horse or caring for the knight's weapons and armour. The squire would sometimes carry the knight's flag into battle with his master.
Level 7: Knight
Wages: §172 per hour - Work Days: Mon, Wed, Thur, Fri - Work Hours: 7AM to 2PM
During the High Middle Ages, knighthood was considered a class of petty nobility. By the Late Middle Ages, the rank had become associated with the ideals of chivalry, a code of conduct for the perfect courtly warrior, as well as with horsemanship (and especially the joust). Often, a knight was a vassal who served as an elite fighter or a bodyguard for a lord, with payment in the form of land holdings. The lords trusted the knights, who were skilled in battle on horseback. While the knight was essentially a title denoting a military office, the term could also be used for positions of higher nobility such as landholders. The higher nobles grant the vassals their portions of land (fiefs) in return for their loyalty, protection, and service. The nobles also provided their knights with necessities, such as lodging, food, armour et cetera. Vassals and lords could maintain any number of knights, although knights with more military experience were those most sought after.
JOB LEVELS – KNIGHT MONARCHY BRANCH:
These levels branch off from Level 7 of the "Knight" Branch
Level 8: Baron
Wages: §180 per hour - Work Days: Mon, Wed, Thur, Fri - Work Hours: 9AM to 1PM
In the feudal system of Europe, a baron was someone who pledged their loyalty and service to their superior in return for land that they could pass to their heirs. The superior, sovereign in his principality, held his lands independently - and the baron was his tenant-in-chief. In early feudal times the baron in turn, in a process of subinfeudation, might have had their own subordinate barons. Now that you have risen to this rank, you will need to scheme and maneuver through the people of court to bolster your position and ensure that your own survival is ensured.
Level 9: Duke
Wages: §277 per hour - Work Days: Mon, Wed, Thur, Fri - Work Hours: 9AM to 1PM
By sheer luck (or divine providence) you have received word that a long-lost relative has died childless, meaning that you inherit their title as a duke! In medieval times, a Duke was a noble title given to the highest-ranking noble below the monarch. Dukes were often appointed to govern provinces or regions of a kingdom, and they held significant political and military power. They were responsible for maintaining order, collecting taxes, and overseeing the administration of their territories. Dukes also played a key role in advising the monarch and often led armies in times of war. The title of Duke was hereditary, passed down through noble families, and was often associated with great wealth and influence. At this level of power, you begin to wonder if a change in the hierarchy of power in this nation is possible. Could you lead a rebellion to depose the current monarch and rule in their place? By using your charisma and logical thinking to sway the nobles, you may be able to take the crown.
Level 10: Monarch
Wages: §460 per hour - Work Days: Mon, Wed, Thur, Fri - Work Hours: 9AM to 1PM
Your revolution was a success, and the crown is now yours! The previous monarch was weak and unwilling to do what must be done to rule the nation properly, but now, as the rightful king, you will rule the land and ensure that your bloodline controls the balance of power for a new age. However, you must always be careful. Jealous nobles and foreign powers both threaten your hold on the throne, and heavy is the head that wears the crown. Deceit and subterfuge are everywhere, and you must maintain the ability to control your subjects and keep them in line, lest any treachery spell your downfall.
JOB LEVELS – KNIGHT CRUSADER BRANCH:
These levels branch off from Level 7 of the "Knight" Branch
Level 8: Crusader Knight
Wages: §180 per hour - Work Days: Mon, Wed, Thur, Fri - Work Hours: 9AM to 4PM
Deciding to shun the allure of power in the courts, you have instead taken up the mantle of a crusader knight, travelling to the Holy Land in the service of the church. It is a hard, unforgiving journey, and if you manage to make it, you will face even more dangers. The battles will be ferocious, but your knightly brothers will support you in your quest. As a crusader, you will travel to the Holy Land and seek glory for both the church and (of course) for yourself. Manage your affairs well and prove yourself on the field of battle and your name will go down in history as one of the greatest and most pious of knights!
Level 9: Templar Knight
Wages: §277 per hour - Work Days: Mon, Wed, Thur, Fri - Work Hours: 9AM to 4PM
Your renown as a knight in the Crusades has grown to such a level that you have been invited to join the Knights Templar, who are members of a religious military order of knighthood established during the Crusades. At its beginning the group consisted of eight or nine French knights who devoted themselves to protecting from Muslim warriors those on pilgrimage to Jerusalem. They were given quarters near the site of the former Temple of Jerusalem, from which they derived their name. Taking vows of poverty and chastity, they performed courageous service, and their numbers increased rapidly, partly because of propagandistic writing. They flourished for two centuries, expanding to other countries, growing in number to 20,000, and acquiring vast wealth and property. By 1304 rumours, probably false, of irreligious practices and blasphemies had made them the target of persecution.
Level 10: Templar Grand Master
Wages: §450 per hour - Work Days: Mon, Wed, Fri - Work Hours: 9AM to 4PM
You have been elected as the Templar Grand Master, completing your knightly journey. The Grand Master of the Knights Templar was the supreme commander of the holy order. Some held the office for life while others resigned life in monasteries or diplomacy. Grand masters often led their knights into battle on the front line and the numerous occupational hazards of battle made some tenures very short. Each country had its own master, and the masters reported to the grand master. He oversaw all of the operations of the order, including both the military operations in the Holy Land and Eastern Europe, and the financial and business dealings in the order's infrastructure of Western Europe. The grand master controlled the actions of the order but he was expected to act the same way as the rest of the knights.
JOB LEVELS – PEASANT:
MERCHANT BRANCH:
Level 2: Peasant Farmer
Wages: §27 per hour - Work Days: Tue, Wed,Thur, Fri, Sat - Work Hours: 7AM to 2PM
You've now got a small field to tend to, and your labour will be repaid in payment by the lord of the nearby manor. During the medieval era, new forms of cereal farming fuelled the exceptionally rapid growth of towns, markets and populations across much of Europe. The use of the mouldboard plough and systematic crop rotation were key developments and led to open-field farming, one of the transformative changes of the Middle Ages. Medieval farming could be summarized as endless work. For a serf on an estate, there was always something that needed doing. Sloth was not tolerated because if the harvest failed, the whole village could face starvation in the winter.
Level 3: Peasant Merchant
Wages: §32 per hour - Work Days: Tue, Wed,Thur, Fri, Sat - Work Hours: 9AM to 4PM
You have gained employment in a nearby merchant's shop, and spend your days crafting goods and selling them to the public. The 13th and 14th centuries saw a tremendous growth in commercial activity, and a consequent restructuring of society, away from the feudal system. Changing attitudes towards trade and the merchant class marked this period. The merchant himself changed in his attitude towards his work, in his duties and abilities, and in his educational background. The old, feudal model of society was dominated by the concept that there were three divinely ordained orders: knights, clergy, and peasants. Each of these groups had a role to play, either defense of the realm, maintenance of the soul of society, or the growing of essential foodstuffs.
Level 4: Peasant Craftsman
Wages: §46 per hour - Work Days: Tue, Wed,Thur, Fri, Sat - Work Hours: 9AM to 4PM
The medieval period witnessed a rapid expansion in trade and the rise of a wealthy and powerful merchant class. Early medieval networks of market towns and suggests that by the 12th century there was an upsurge in the number of market towns and the emergence of merchant circuits as traders bulked up surpluses from smaller regional, different day markets and resold them at the larger centralised market towns. Peddlers or itinerant merchants filled any gaps in the distribution system. From the 11th century, the Crusades helped to open up new trade routes in the Near East, while adventurers stimulated interest in the far East in the 13th century. Medieval merchants began to trade in exotic goods imported from distant shores including spices, wine, food, furs, fine cloth (notably silk), glass, jewellery and many other luxury goods. Market towns began to spread across the landscape during the medieval period.
TOWN GUARD BRANCH:
Level 2: Town Guard
Wages: §28 per hour - Work Days: Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri - Work Hours: 7AM to 2PM[
You’ve enrolled in the local Town Militia, as glory on the battlefield is the best chance you have of securing a knighthood. Level 3: Infantryman
[I]Wages: §32 per hour - Work Days: Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri - Work Hours: 7AM to 2PM
You’ve been called into the local levy military in service of your local knight, and now work as a soldier in the monarch’s armies. Level 4: Town Guard Captain
Wages: §40 per hour - Work Days: Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri - Work Hours: 7AM to 2PM
You've been promoted to Captain of the Town Guard, and now oversee the lower-rank guards doing their work. Make sure to keep constantly vigilant so that you can keep the town safe from raiding bandits or thieves striking from within. The safety and security of the local peasants rests in your hands and the hands of the rest of the town militia, who patrol on the look for constant threats.
The Knight career branches once after level seven, where you can go into either the Monarchy or Crusader Knight branch. The Knight Career generally focusses on the Athletics, Logic, Horseriding and Charisma skills.
The Peasant career branches once after level one, where you can go into either the Merchant or Town Guard branch. The Peasant Career generally focusses on the Athletics, Gardening and Charisma skills, depending on which branch you choose.
Both careers have their own uniforms and an array of different opportunities, some of which depend on which career branch you choose.
