Pond Water Mod - new colors

This is a mod I made in response to a request from Inge Jones back in September...although now that I go look at the original request, it doesn't seem that I've addressed all the issues. :sorry: I'll look again and see if I can come up with something different.

The request was "Is there any chance you can make the garden ponds reflective and not so transparent so you can see plants and lights reflected in them? They shouldn't have that eerie blue glow night and day". Unfortunately I forgot what was said and it came to my memory as "Fix the purple-blue" color of pond water. Ah well. After four days of non-stop work to finish this, I'm going to go ahead and post what I have.

At any rate, I've made several different pond water colors for you if you're interested. Check out the attached screenshots to see the available colors.

You can only have one water color for the game at a time, therefore I've kept all of the file names exactly the same. To distinguish between each (so you know what color you're using), I've archived each color separately and named the archive the appropriate name (for example: "" contains the aquamarine colored water). The attached downloads each contain 7 separate archives inside them. The idea is to extract them somewhere, then extract the color you want to use. When you want to change colors, simply extract a different archive and overwrite the existing file.

Important Note
Due to the way lot water is displayed, and my non-expertise at doing this, only the Ice color will display properly when in Neighborhood View. All colors display properly when you're in Live Mode, but the other colors appear black in the N-Hood View. Currently, there is no way for me to fix or change this.

Also, there was no way for me to change the fact that pond water seems to have its own light source at night. Lot water is not rendered with standard lighting, and therefore doesn't get dark when 7 o'clock rolls around. Again, there's nothing I can do about this. I believe that if it was possible and didn't consume too much computing-power, Maxis would have made it work the "correct" way. That being said, at night these colors at least do not appear to "glow a radioactive purple-blue".

If for any reason (perhaps a very old video card) the water does not display properly in Live Mode, simply delete the file from your Downloads directory and the default water color will be restored.

Edit: Just wanted to mention that the Neighborhood Imposters (N-Hood images) are only updated when you make and save changes to a lot. So if you change your lot water and are wondering why the Neighborhood view is the same, that's why.

I'm so glad to get rid of the red water.

A few weeks ago, i asked customer support about it and they told me that's because of my graphic card. But they had no solutions about it.

It would be helpfull if you let them know how you solved the problem.

These are brilliant! I love them!

REQUEST: very dark-brown opaque water with a greenish tint (kind of like baby diarhea! lol) This would give the appearance of very deep or muddy water with algea growing at the edges. If not a water recolor, then maybe a way to make the pond-bottom recolorable (black, dark brown, dark green, etc.) instead of light sand-colored.

Again, thank you for these beauties. They are wonderful!

If it weren't for ADD I'd be forgetful, lazy, absentminded, clumsy, always late, disorganized, messy, and annoying.................for no apparant reason.

Hey Targa, I love this creation but I'm looking for blood red water for a gothic castle I'm going to use as my first upload I've tried WCIF and I don't want to bother you with a PM so I might ask the create section and see if I can do it myself

Default For those of you with the Season exp:
This mod does not work with the Seasons exp.

The water turns icy on its own during winter in the Seasons exp. However, if you had wanted year round blue water for instance, all the snow during winter flashes blue. I would not advise using these with Seasons, as the Pond Water Mod no longer appears to work like its supposed to when the Seasons exp is installed.

Default Targa's Pond Mods - EP2&3, EP4, EP5 AND EP6 update
May try one at a time...
The red version is based on the non-ice codes.

NL & OFB, pets and seasons versions for the pond water mod series are out.
The original Targa's Pond water mods are TS2-based.
Since NL and OFB are the same for this mod, there's no specific mod either EP alone.

The EP6 BV version of the shader is the same as EP5 SS, just use the EP5 SS version for EP6 BV

All credits still belong to Targa. The act of the update is just to extend Targa's mods to other EPs.

What I did:
I only trans-locate Targa's code into the EP3, EP4, EP5 terrain shaders.
In the new ones, I only alter the RGBA.

How to modify the water colour done by Targa's code (except the ice one.):

There's only 1 major line one has to alter to recolour Targa's pond water mod, and they're bolded in the quote.
One has to know what RGB(alpha) means. "R" stands for "red" in a range of "0-1". "G" stands for "green" in a range of "0-1". "B" stands for "blue" in a range of "0-1".
"alpha" means the "alpha-blending" transparency in an absolute range of "0-1" where "0" means "invisible" while "1" means "opacque".

Note the quoted codes were done by Targa. And, it resembles a certain piece of the NeighborhoodWaterSWVS().

1. Just open a version of Targa's pond water mod with simpe.
2. get to the specified bold lines.
3. replace the ones with yours, say "1,1,0,0.1" (yellow).
4. commit.
5. save as a new file, eg "targa_pond_water_mod_(game version; eg SS)_yellow"
6. don't alter any other settings unless you know what you're doing or at least will to "experiment" in a testing environment.

Thank you for updating this mod Niol, it's great to have the pond color choices and I have to have the ice recolor for the snowy neighborhoods. Great work

too bad it doesnt work with seasons. in case anyone wonders what happens, when it snows the terrain starts flashing blue as if the texture were missing. its a shame

I put the ice recolor one in my downloads folder and it's not working. I have only the Season EP, so I only downloaded the Moi_EP5_Targa_Pond_Water_mod.rar file. It seems that the other recolors are working, but I only want the Ice one

Thanks for the heads up on this mod. It IS nice to know that you can fix the blue terrain with little fuss. I admit it freaked me out when I first saw all that flashing! Thank you, niol, for offering that fix, and thank you, Targa, for the mod in the first place.

is really amasing when i have understand but i think we can set a color with any objects

same when we set any mod green aqua blue brown etc... after the object change the color global each home is different color setting

and this mod allowed for fishing in freetime

Me too! I tried the blue one and the ice one but that problem still occurs. And finally I have no choice but to delete that file and it fixed. The default white snow color come back and that flashing blu e disappeared.

The swimmming pool is rendered by the pool shader mostly.
The water surface codes, water depth layers codes, parts of the caustics animation codes are in the pool shader.

May read this thread for further discussion.
