BodyShop Mechanic v .36B by Dr Pixel

Released March 14, 2009

Bodyshop Mechanic is Copyrighted 2006 - 2009 and is not to be distributed on other sites.

=========================
NEW! Added a Rename/Copy section to make it easy to handle your finished
Bodyshop package files.

NEW! Updated the Remove Projects section.

See the Help Manual for full details.
=========================

Bodyshop Mechanic works with any combination of expansions and stuff-packs.

This program is for Windows users only. No other files are necessary, if you can play The Sims2 game on your Windows computer, it should work for you.

It uses a standard Windows installer, and includes a complete Help manual.

BodyShop Mechanic is a simple program that gives you a little better control of the BodyShop program that comes with the Sims2 game, and lets you easily control many useful user-created Bodyshop enhancements.

It will NOT work with the pre-release version of BodyShop, only with the versions that are installed along with the game itself.

You can:

Choose the size of the BodyShop window (800 x 600 - or - 1024 x 768)

Get BodyShop to re-create it's thumbnails. This is useful if you have some bad thumbnails in BodyShop. This will not fix the bad thumbnails unless you have corrected the problem that caused them - most often this is a missing mesh file, or a flawed mesh edit.

Remove old BodyShop projects that are cluttering up the Projects list.
This will not harm your finished projects, once you have imported them into the game the project files are no longer needed and are wasting space and causing BodyShop to load slowly.

Remove any unwanted project folders - these are also not needed after you have imported them into the game.

Hide The SavedSims and/or the Downloads folders from Bodyshop.

Change the background picture/color used in BodyShop at any time.

For the background picture you can choose any bmp, jpg, or png image you have, of any size. You have the option to tile or resize the image to fill the whole Bodyshop window.

================================

You can also easily control several user-created Bodyshop add-ons:

You can change the lighting brightness using Wes Howe's enhanced lighting files.

You can change the default "hands on hips" mannequin pose to any one of many available user-created poses. There are instructions included for creating your own pose files if you like.

You can control Windkeeper's Bodyshop Enhancement files. These are the default screen replacements, the mannequin skintone replacements, and the invisible undies for skintone creators.

The help manual has complete instructions and download links for all these files.

========================

The "Run Bodyshop" button will start Bodyshop with the chosen settings.

You will still be able to change the background while BodyShop is running.

All other features can only be used when BodyShop is not running, and will be disabled while BodyShop is running.

===================================================

That's all there is for now, I hope you find it useful.

FANTASTIC TOOL , Dr. Pixel!!!!!!! I AM Having problems with the backgrounds when I choose a jpg image or whatnot it shows that it is using it in the mechanic but when body shop is running it is still the original background . I just read about pressing the F5 Key I am going to try that but that is the only thing I haven't done right with it, any other suggestions would be appreciated but I will let ya know if thats what I did wrong. Other than that It works beautifully THANKS :D

No, the "run BodyShop" option won't work with BV - unfortunately Maxis didn't provide any way to automatically tell what the folder name is with new expansion packs so I have to code them in myself with each new expansion.
Once I can afford BV I will update the program. It won't be until next month, though - things are a bit tight this month.

This is everything I've been looking for. I hate the Bodyshop lighting and I hate how you can only use 2 poses in Bodyshop. My prayers have been answered! Thank yoooouuuu!!!

Please. DON'T ask me who Frazier is, or I'll hurt you.

Default Dumb questions
Firstly, thanks so much for this idea. For a creator like myself that hates loading the game and taking pics this is a God’s send!

Sorry about sounding dense (I’m going to pretend it’s a problem with me not being a English native speaker )

I have a doubt about changing the poses: we have to close BS to chose another one (that I get) but we don’t have to close Mechanic, right? Than we chose another pose and hit “run BodyShop”… am I right?

How about the files in Config: if we don’t want to be using Mechanic – I use it for photos – do we have to take them out somewhere?

Thanks again!

Yes, that is correct.

You do not need to remove any files from the Config\ folder.

When you run BodyShop again (not using the Mechanic program) it will still use the last pose and lighting you had selected with the Mechanic program.

If you want it to use the Maxis default pose and lighting instead, you can use the Mechanic program to change back to those after you quit BodyShop - you don't have to run BodyShop again at that time. What it does is to change the extension on all the pose and lighting files in the Config\ folder that you are not using from ".package" to ".off"

BodyShop will also have the last background picture or color that you set still available.

The Bodyshop Mechanic is saying it cant find Bodyshop!! What's wrong, it won't load Bodyshop!! It was working for awhile now all the sudden it's not...

It stopped working for me when I installed the Glamour Life stuff pack. When I installed Nightlife expansion pack, it started working again. So it depends on what you recently installed. It may not be able to find the new folders.

Edit: Works well with BV and Teen Style.

It's freakin' awesome! However, I did put the files in a folder (I called the folder 'Bodyshop Mechanic') and then put that folder in: MyDocuments/EA games/Sims 2/Config like you said but the poses and lightings are still greyed out. Are you supposed to put both the notepad and the "pocketknife thing" in that folder? Or are you supposed to put something somewhere else? Do you separate the two?
