Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
The sun, the moon, stars or meteors can't be seen properly on the sky while playing on a lot if Seasons, any newer expansion pack, or Mansion and Garden Stuff is installed. This mod fixes it. Additionally, it provides better support for displaying neighborhood skyboxes and horizons on lots.

This mod does not restore base game clouds but there is another mod which achieves that: the clouds controller made by Lowedeus. There's also a global version of it made by Lazy Duchess – it makes clouds show automatically, without having to put a controller on a lot.

Updates
15 Apr 2017: Added a fixed version for Mac. The snow texture outside the lot borders doesn't flash purple anymore.
7 Apr 2017: The previous version made terrain paints and floors on other lots invisible. It's fixed in the SkyFix 2.1.
12 Mar 2017: Released the SkyFix 2 that makes it possible to create skyboxes that blend properly with edges of the visible terrain.

Choosing the right version
  1. If you have an old version of this mod (simNopke-skyFix-### or simNopke-skyFix2-###), delete it first. Go to 2.
  2. If you're playing on Mac and have Super Collection or Bon Voyage installed, choose simNopke-skyFix2_1-EP6-Mac. If not, go to 3.
  3. If you're playing on PC and have Ultimate Collection, or at least one of the following packs installed: Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life, Mansion and Garden Stuff – choose simNopke-skyFix2_1-EP6. If not, go to 4.
  4. If you have Seasons installed, choose simNopke-skyFix2_1-EP5. If not, go to 5.
  5. If you have at least one of the following packs installed: Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, any stuff pack (except of M&G Stuff) – choose simNopke-skyFix2_1-EP2. If not, choose simNopke-skyFix2_1-base.
EP5, EP2 and base versions work fine on both PC and Mac.

Known bugs
None caused by this mod, but there is a bug you can't see without the SkyFix in Seasons, a newer expansion pack, or M&G Stuff: double sun and double moon.

ConflictsIf you want to use one of those mods, use it instead of this mod – they have the SkyFix incorporated.

For creators of skyboxes
To create a properly layered neighborhood skybox compatible with the SkyFix, you have to use the following values for the stdMatLayer parameter in the material file of your skybox:
  • -6 – skies (solid)
  • -5 – something between the sky and the horizon, for example clouds
  • -4 – horizons
Unfortunately, Maxis sun, moon, stars and meteors won't be covered by clouds or horizons.

How many camera mods have you tested? I think that not all of them. In my game, Gunmod's camera mod and Enhanced gameplay cameras caused crashes. Now, I have my own camera mod and everything is okay. Maybe I will upload it later.

@ Nopke thanks again for your reply, yes the two camera mod you name in your reply in the past cause my game to crashed. I would love to try your camera mod if you should upload it.
A reminder I do not just have the base game I have "all" EPs way up to Seasons, but nothing after that Ep.

Just came back to say how wonderful the sky looks from lot view (especially at night) with this fix. Thanks again!

The moon, sun and stars. Nice to see them in the Sims sky. Thank you!

By the way, these look fine without the Gunmod mod. :)

That's so cool! I didn't even know there were actual stars in TS2, since I've been playing a complete set for years. Thank you!

I have a question, though: while the sun/stars do appear in lot view now, I can't get the neighborhood skybox to show up. I have neighbors and neighborhood deco turned on, view/fade distances are set to "extra large"; the only graphic setting that isn't maxed is shadows, which I have set to medium. I downloaded the EP6+ version and have all EPs/SPs. What could be the reason behind this?

Thanks so much for this. Another great mod by a great Simmer!
Edit: Had a game crash, am using Gunmod Camera Mod.
Second Edit: Tried again copying the Enhanced Camera Mod over the Gunmod one and everything seems fine for now.

The same one you used in your previews - The Great Sky of Totalitarianism by Lowedus.

EDIT: I just figured out what it was! I was always looking at the lot when zoomed all the way out using a camera hack, so I was outside of lot boundaries. I just loaded a 5x6 lot, and realised I can see the skydome, as long as my camera is within lot bounds. I tend to play with tiny lots, so I never realized.

I have some bad news that occured with me. After using this mod, my... how can I call.... it.... Those three bars about the Sims lifetime wishes and their desires, one of the bars disappeared! I tested removing this SkyFix, and the bar is back.

I saw a shooting star in Strangetown thanks to this mod! I saw it as Pascal Curious was being abducted by aliens. This mod and your sim shadow fix mod have added so much to my Sims' world. So glad that people like you are still working to make TS2 the most enjoyable experience for all of us.
