TESTERS WANTED - Assignable gravestone

I finally worked out the method of assigning a ghost to a gravestone. I borrowed the summoning behaviour code and used the sims 1 coding (which was fortunately the same) to show up only ghosts on the pie menu. I then made it so that you can assign a ghost to a gravestone. This is the regular gravestone so if you want it has a different object, you are free to clone it. I've placed it under outside and miscellaneous.

There are some issues however, not all the ghosts appear on the menu. I had three ghosts in my neighourhood and the third one wasn't on the menu. The other issue is that ghosts from other neighbourhoods show up on the menu. Such as Darryl Dreamer's wife. I've also made it so you can force the ghost to come out but will not work if the ghost you choose is invalid (eg. from a different neighbourhood).

Anyway, try it out for those who want the ghosts roaming around again and see how it goes. I originally made it hoping that it would work with the resurrection phone if the grave had been deleted but doesn't seem to. What I'd suggest doing is assigning the ghost, exit and save the lot then go back in and try the resurrection phone. Just a guess. Some ghosts cannot be resurrected regardless of whether they have a grave.

27-8-2005: I have made a few changes. Firstly, I've added all the platinum graves as many of you requested. Secondly, I've added another file called gravematters. This file makes it possible to have a cemetary in that the graves will not disappear when placed unassigned. Furthermore, they are categorised for community lots.

Gravematters also - and I haven't had an opportunity to test it - makes it so that when you delete a default grave, it doesn't delete (unlink) your character data. So if you have a sim you don't care about - or backed up your neighbourhood - and want to try this out, let me know if it works. Basically, if you can still use this character (through SimPE or resurrection) after deleting the default gravestone they leave behind, then this hack works. I've also written in an inhouse code for the custom graves to do the same - that is not delete your character data.

I'm leaving the old file up as well in case the new files don't work. Once it has been determined that they do work, then I will remove it. The newer graves should work a lot better displaying ALL the ghosts rather than hit and miss as the original seemed to do. is the updated version of UrnFamily is the family aspiration urn and so on. Gravematters is the hack that I mentioned above.

You must have the expansion or stuff packs listed below installed to use this custom content. Please see the post text for any exceptions.

Very innovative mod!

Is there anyway to make summoning a ghost cost simoleons? It would be a great way to satisfy the want to see a ghost, and costing simoleons would make it more balanced.

Okay dumb question time. I downloaded and installed this and can't find it in my game. Where is it catalogued to? I think I looked through nearly all the sections and can't see it anywhere.

Thanks for your help, Motoki.

jfreddog: Community lots have always been like that. I don't think you can have gravestones stay there permanently unless someone figures out a way to hack the game and fix that.

Very Interesting...
I really haven't had any of my Sims die in S2U becasue I keep backing up their age and manipulating their skill levels so the don't electricute themselves with the garbage disposal. I am going to give it a try and see what happens? Thanks for the hack -and the detailed description of what it does. Will let you know how it works; Now... who can I kill???.... laughing, jadon..

Well is tehre a way to make these graves community avaliable? I tried this from the SimPE Modding Information Database:

How to make a custom object collection with SimPE (getting home objects onto community lots):
To make your own custom collection:

"Make a new collection in buy mode from a home lot. Save and exit your game.
Load up SimPe. Find your collection. You can find it by opening the
collections and looking at the text lists in Plugin View. It will show the
name of the collection. Just open the collections until you find yours.
Once you have the right file, click collection, look at it in Plugin View.
Go to the last line. It will say type, dtstring. In the value, change it
to communitylotcollection. Click commit. Go to file, save. That's it.
Exit SimPe. Load up your game. Go to a community lot. Go to buy mode.
Click collections. You new collection should be in there."

I was able to buy the graves on the community lot, but after I saved and left the lot they vanished...
So I guess unless you make the object a community object there's no other way... Can anyone do this?

This is a wonderful thing to see! One of my teenage orphan sims went off the college and ended up dying in a cooking fire (luckily he knocked up the neighboor girl before he left, so he still has a living relative :P) but I really wanted to be able to have his tombstone be somewhere other than his university lot. It was so stupid that it was stuck there because I really felt that he should be buried next to his own mother, or perhaps buried at the neighboor girl's house (they were engaged when he died)

Does anyone else think that the ghosts assigned to these tombstones come out and scare people a lot more than they should? I've never had a huge problem with ghosts until installing this but now they just don't stop bugging me.
Is this just a coincedence or are the ghosts more active now for some reason? If they are more active I'd certainly like a pie menu option to reduce the activity of a ghost or something. Maybe name it "Excorsism" or something, that would be nice.

Ok I think I might have a problem!
I'm not sure if this is related to your mod, but I assigned one of my ghosts on another lot to a tombstone on the lot I was playing, then I tried to use the Resurrect-O-Nomitron later. Normally it lets you resurrect any sim you knew even if the tombstone is not on your lot. At least I think that's how it works... I've been able to use it like that on sims that didn't die on my lot in the past.
Anyway, I was not able to use it to resurrect the ghost that I assigned to the tombstone! Even though I definatly knew the sim, it was as if assigning them to a tombstone makes them "unressurectable".
#45 Old 10th Jun 2005 at 6:26 AM
Any chance you could do all the golden tombstones too?

#46 Old 15th Jun 2005 at 10:35 AM
Yeah it would be nice if this affected platinum tombstones.
As for the ghosts being irritable... I think that's normal behavior for a ghost when it is introduced to new sims on the lot, and since the ghost is put on the lot it essentially considers all of the sims "new" and gets irritable...
As for the resurrection thing I mentioned, I wasn't able to resurrect a sim that I assigned to a tombstone. Any chance of fixing that?

Awesome! This was the first time I really felt a specific need to use a hack in my game, so I came here to search out a way to move my poor deceased Sim's gravestone to the family's new home. This assignable grave worked great. I was even able to remove the hack from my game when I was done, and still have the grave left behind.

Little offtopic 'cause I don't have this item but this is related to ghosts' behaviour.

I've found ghosts being more restless when new family member(s) or whole new family comes to household (meaning with this if you ask some one to move in, not new babies who born in that lot) and they like to scare especially this new family member. For example one of my sim's wife died just after honeymoon ride but man took new wife quite soon. First wife's ghost never haunted to her husband but to new wife a LOT (and it was very annoiying especially when new wife was pregnant with their twins and had bladder problems 'cause of that too..).

All my hyperactive ghosts have become less restless when little time has passed.
