The SEP (Slot Enable Package)
"COUNTERS" - v. 1.2 (19 may 08)

-------------------------------------------------

Pic1 Pic2

19 MAY 2008: UPDATE - Included counters and islands from H&M and Kitchen&Bath!
Read the details on Post #2

WARNING: this is a global mod, i.e. it affects all the lots in the game (but it's NOT a hack: it will NOT be included in exported lots).

WHAT IS THE SEP?
The Slot Enable Packages is module than enables additional slots in the Maxis counters (residential and commercial counters and islands).
Once installed, you'll be able to place objects in new spots, and in new positions, that previously weren't allowed by the game (see below for details).

MODULE 1 - *COUNTERS*
This module (currently the only one available EDIT: this one will forever be the only one available: I'm not going to add other modules ) will let you use the corner counters, allowing you to install on them espresso machines, mixers, telephones and anything else (all objects placeable on counters, of course); and the sims will correctly use the objects placed on the corners.

The "SEP-Counters" module will work with *ALL* the existing counters (including the commercial ones) and counter islands shipped with the base game, UNI, NL, OFB, PETS, SSN, H&M and K&B (the other packs don't contain any counter).
Obviously, if you have only the base game, you will NOT find new counters in your catalog! But if you have any of the mentioned EP, the SEP will automatically apply on the counters for that EP, enabling the diagonal objects for them.

BASE-GAME and UNI USERS: your game doesn't allow you to create corners using islands (this is a feature introduced with NL; or better, it's a bug that was corrected with Nightlife ). Therefore, base-game and UNI users can only use corners created with normal counters.

OFB USERS: the "SEP-Counters" works perfectly with OFB, and will allow you to put sellable objects (or even the cash register) on the corners, and your customer will have no problems in purchasing them; also, you will be able to correctly restock the sold objects (but remember that the game *has* some bugs related to the restocking function! So, don't blame me if your restock signs are misplaced )

INSTALLATION AND USAGE
Extract the package from the zip, and put it into your Downloads folder.
IMPORTANT: the SEP will automatically affect all the counters and islands placed in your lot after having installed the mod; the corners already existing in your lot at the moment of the installation will NOT be automatically "enabled"! You have to pick them, move them around a little, and put them down again (no need to re-buy them).

CREDITS AND ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
As always, credits go to Maxis for the game itself, and for the counters in particular.
Biggest thanks to MaryLou for her tireless beta-testing

LICENSE AGREEMENT
DO NOT repost the SEP, and any of its parts, on any site.
Please BE WARNED that when you clone a Maxis counter with the SEP installed, some parts of the SEP will be included in your clone. This is allowed; but be warned that all the Resource Nodes included in the SEP contain a copyright line: if this is a problem for you, please remove the SEP before cloning Maxis counters..
If your cloned counter or island has the usable corners thanks to the SEP, you MUST give credits to Numenor for that, and put a link to this very thread (in order to allow people to report bugs and receive support).

TECHNICAL EXPLANATION
The Maxis corner counters, basically, have the same slots as the straight counters (one main slot in the center and two decorative slots on the back); but they are all misplaced, so that the objects are not usable, and the routes to the slots are badly tweaked (the sims can't reach the interaction point).
I have moved and rotated the "std_0" slot, and adjusted all the related routes, editing each and every CRES for the Maxis counters, commercial counters and islands. I've also modified the footprint of each corner, to let the sim operate the object from both sides.
On the other hand there was no need to edit the SLOT files themselves; as a consequence, the SEP package(s) contain only Resource Nodes and nothing else.
One special mention is due for the "dec_2" slot. The corners have a third "decorative slot" that is missing in the straight counters; this caused the objects placed in that slot to "disappear" when the corner was moved and given a straight shape. This "dec_2" slot has been removed from all the corners, so that this problem is now fixed.

You must have the expansion or stuff packs listed below installed to use this custom content. Please see the post text for any exceptions.

Hey Numenor, Remember the talk earlier we had about my items not sticking to the corners with the other hack? what jsalemi said is what mine was doing but more than one counter, more than one lot. It was doing it after updating stuff, not instaling stuff packs or ep's. it worked before I updated..

(edit) I think I figured it out! When you first install the SEP you have to pick up the counters to "activate" the ability to use it. Well, I was moving my downloads out of the game folder to test without any cc.. Possible I was resetting it? I'm going to test that theory but I'll be posting results later.. It's pretty late here.

Xts

EDIT: Numenor, what else could cause one of your files to say a "date modified" to be a date later than your release date?

I tried to put in the SEP, I already had a copy so I guess I did already have it. I checked the dates and it said the one I had already was newer. The date states the modified date is the same as the last accessed date. 5/12/2007 and your walls and windows have the same dates attached to them. Would this be due to my game accessing them on that date? If so, why isn't it a more recent date? both say 194 kilobytes. I was wondering if somehow something else accessed it. No rush on this, just when you get some time Should I overwrite the old one with the one I just grabbed?

Thanks in advance,
xts*

To be sure, download a fresh copy from this thread and overwrite the one you have in the Downloads, ignoring the dates.
When checking the date of a file, always read the "last modification" date, not the date of creation (that may be misleading).

SEP and resetting after removing downloads folder.. All okaky now! :D
All right...but I'm still not sure WHAT modified the date.. That's what's confusing me.. The one I just got is not dated for that recent of a date so something on my system changed the dates.. *shrug*.. but either way.. I'll overwrite it.

I can now verify that it was because I'd removed my downloads and ran the game without the SEP. I tested last night. I was able to place things again so when I'd removed my downloads and started the game I'd reset the counter causing it to put my stuff on the counter next to the one it was on.. (because it was in the corner).

Everything is working as expected now! :D

Thanks Modfather.. lol

Has anyone tested in FreeTime? I haven't installed yet and am checking all the mods and hacks I have to see if they have been tested or updated. Any news would be great.

Thanks

As I said several times, the SEP is a bunch of modifications of specific Maxis counters: all the counters already included in the SEP (currently, all the counters up to Seasons) will have the "diagonal placement" even with FT installed; on the other hand, the counters newer that Seasons are not included in the SEP and won't allow any diagonal placement.

Therefore, FT users can use the SEP: only, the diagonal will work only for the counters up to Seasons.

Just saying that the CEP will need updating for a few items in the new stuff pack K&B stuff. Eaxis changed a few things. With CEP the child stove will not show the new recolors and they broke it so that the old recolors will not show either. I believe there were supposed to be new stall recolors as well, but I am unsure of that report.

I love this global mod, my kitchens are almost useless without it.
I hope it gets updated for K&B. So I can actually start using those kitchens.

Oh thank you for updating the new counters! I can actually use them now! It's amazing how much I rely on this mod. I didn't even realize it untill the K&B counters came out and I was trying to place things and I thought they were broken for a second until I remembered the SEP!
Thank you again for all the time you spend updating your fabulous mods that make this game so much better!

I totally hate to be the super oddball here, but for some reason, I'm not sure this is working for me. I have every EP up to Freetime, and the only SP I have is H&M. I know this only works for specific Maxis counters, but is there an easy way to differentiate between which counter is from which EP so that I can test this better? I have tried using a couple Maxis counters and using the 45degreeangle cheat to test this out, but no luck. Please help when you have time. Thanks in advance.

I hear Numenor is away on vacation. Once he returns i'm hoping for an update so this mod works for AL. Not sure why it isn't working, there's no new counters in this EP. If anyone else finds that it is working, report, that would mean i've got a wierd conflict somewhere (tho this is the only mod i have for surfaces).

I double-checked, and I'm not having any problem in my apartments. Try going into buy mode and moving the counter out of the corner and then putting it back. Sometimes you have to "re-purchase" counters already placed in pre-made houses in order to enable the corner slot.

Has always worked for me until I installed Apartment life and it made the game a bit funny!
