Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
Hi everyone! It's my first upload here, made mostly because of my need to get the rid of weird Maxis name combinations and add a dark twist to my game.

That mod COMPLETELY REPLACES original names in the game, except names of already created sims. Any new generated sim will have name from this mod.
You can have only one name replacement!
Surely works with English game version, but one of my testers said it works fine with other game versions too.
Shouldn't conflict with any other mod.

It's a mod made with thinking about victorian England, but can also be used in any setting you like.

I have absolutely nothing against other cultures and people from other countries - it's just a random idea for a mod, probably other, more "ethnic" name mods will be available soon.

What my mod includes:

- Classic and everlasting names (mostly European)
- Darker names, taken mostly from literature
- Plenty of mythology names - mostly greek and roman
- Some common names from around the world
- Alternative variants for names (e.g. Alice/Alicia, Anne/Anna)
- Historical and actual last names, mostly english and english-sounding

Some other possible name combinations:
Female: Anne Nightingale, Morgana Blackwood, Athena Gale, Electra Raines, Tristana Hale, Cornelia Wycke, Mauve Conrad, Jacquelyne Bonnet, Storm Johnson, Rosalie Huntley, Alice Green, Henriette Cross, Daphne Harper, Angelica Lovelock, Myrtle Douglas, Martha Winsbury
Male: Jack Hunter, Remus Crowley, Reginald Fawkes, Derek Sherlock, Louis Middleton, Sterling Corte, Lysander Devoe, Forrest Cornwell, Gabriel Noctus, Seth Knight, Cedric Crawford, Carlisle Willis, Edgar Burton, Sabre Lioncourt, Ruben Hawke, Castor Willis

Notes:
Please admit that some names on the mod list are intentionally doubled to add more realism (It happens quite rarely in game, but is possible.)

Made with:
Stubble
STBLizer

Should work with every version of the game and with every expansion.
Tested.

You must have the expansion, game version or stuff packs listed below installed to use this custom content. Please see the post text for any exceptions.

Here in the US, up until about 20-30 yrs ago, I would have said that a large percentage of all the names were European (particularly English), regardless of their actually nationality. These days, probably, half of the names are Hispanic. We have such a mix that there is likely to be more than one "Yumi McDonald" living in the US. Being from a multi-cultural country, I try to just state the facts when dealing with nationality, ethnicity and language and just leave out descriptive words like "classy, classic". Still, your always going to offend someone, somehow. Don't take offense to the negative comments here. They are likely to be Americans, since we enjoy getting defensive about that subject around here. You would think we would be the experts on how to blend cultures and nationalities, huh?
The weird Sims names never bothered me, accept the ones with numbers in the names. Personally, I like to have most of my names English sounding (or at least sounding like real words) and then just edit the random name to something else.
Also, I think you might have confused "classic" with "classy". "Classy" implies sophisticated, which is what some sensitive people may take offense to. It sounds like what you really wanted to imply was "English". As a suggestion for labeling your names, call them "English" or "mostly English or "English literature" names and most people will understand without taking offense.
Didn't someone do a "Harry Potter" name list? That would also be English.
Anyway, I actually like your names list. I think I have the Harry Potter.

And, what a coincidence, as I remember your name (if Armana is your real name) is included in this mod too! :D

Miss Discordia, thank you for your response. To other posters, I will say that this is hardly an issue of touchiness. Rather, one must take into consideration the impact of one's work upon a larger audience. The Sims (1-3) have been and are being played by millions of people all over the world, who vary greatly in their ethnic/racial/cultural/sexual identities as well as physical capabilities. It is true that not all mods are for all players. It is equally true that if one is not interested in utilizing a certain mod, then it one ought to simply disregard it. At the same time, it is important, in my opinion, that creators think about the language that they use to describe their mods.

If European==Classy, then what does that mean for the rest of the world? That is simply my point. One needs to remain mindful of the subtleties of language, regardless of personal intention, and how easily subtleties can be misconstrued. Anyway, I am glad to see that this issue has both generated and fostered some discussion. As for me, I take my leave from it.

Armana is a nickname I acquired because of my love for the Amarna period in Eyptian history. My real name is rather Scottish.

Armana D.

I think this is wonderful. Thank you so much for making it and for making it easy to install into the game. One question that I haven't seen asked or answered though is approximately how many names did you use?

It is a silly issue because there is no discrimination intended by the creator and because there's nothing wrong with having your Sims be given names you like - it doesn't mean that you hate people with "different" names in RL.

What do you mean by not showing?
They do not change the names of actual sims, only newly generated.
And it works only for some language versions, unfortunately. I made it on the english one, so if you have for example dutch one, it may not work properly.

I have the English version. The NPC names are still the same as they were before I downloaded the mod.

As I said, they will change only for newly generated NPCs, not for existing ones. If you mean that every new generated NPC has got got default name, I have no idea what is causing the problem - no one using english version had this issue.

Are you a mac user?

A mod for Japanese or other Asian sounding names would get my attention. But this is a start. Thanks for this!

No, I don't use a Mac; I have a PC. If I make a new save file, the names should be different, right?

The NPCs at the start of the game are not generated randomly - they are a fixed part of the world. Only NEW ones generated later (babies and immigrants) will get the new names.

I think you do a very nice job with English , and I understood what you were trying to say completely. I too have always disliked the way names are put together in this game. I am absolutely against Racisim and intolerance of any kind ,however, the goofy, willy-nilly style, of sticking Ethnic names together just doesn't work for me - or for you either, it seems. Yumi McDonald, isn't as bad as some that I've seen randomly thrown together in my game. How about Shiva Robinson, Aefre Jenkins, and Osvaldo Smithe? It's terribly dumb to mix very Ethnic first names with familar surnames names, and it sounds...even worse. It would have been far better for EA's developers to program Sims names in Ethnic Groups, such as German, Ukranian, African, Indian, Russian, etc., and select those names in pairs. So that first names and Surnames both come from the same Ethic group, and sound well together. It's so stupid to just stick a couple of names together without giving any though to whether or not they actually GO together! Thank for this naming Mod. It will come in very handy! :D

No no just put it in your Mods/Packages folder as usual I think that the Overrides folder was put there as an example of how you can organize mods by making sub folders to sort them in within the Packages folder.
As long as it's in Packages, it'll work.

Aw, the poor puddy tat! He fall down and go... BOOM!
