Downtown build/buy mode enabler

I thought I would give this mod a go and it surprisingly works. It allows you to go into build/buy mode when downtown/community lot and stops it from being disabled when the car drives off - that way you get stuck behind the school bus you can rearrange. I'm looking for some testers to try it out for me.

Going into build mode - unlike the sims original - only allows you to buy community improvements with your own money and I doubt they stay there because the lot doesn't get saved...yet hehe. So you may ask "why would I want a hack like this?" Because you can access your inventory. I made - but didn't post - a hack that makes food placeable in your inventory so your sims can have a picnic; or perhaps add unfinished restaurant dishes to your inventory and eat them at home (haven't tried this). And if you're a thief, you can give the sims rogues a run for their money by stealing paintings for downtown and putting it into your inventory.

I'm not sure why it hasn't been done before which makes me think there's going to be a nasty surprise. I've tested it out on community and downtown lots - not uni lots yet - with ALL expansion packs installed and I haven't encountered any problems so far.

Please don't do anything silly like sell your car when downtown otherwise you might get stuck. Don't even try putting it in your inventory unless you're willing to exit without saving. I don't know what will happen but I do know that most of the objects can't be touched because they're in use.

Maybe I should make babies and toddlers addable to the inventory that way you can cart them downtown LOL. Just kiddin'

EDIT: This one only works for up to NL.

The update for all expansions up to pets can be found here:

Wow! So much! Mostly, there're a lot of awesome new modders out there; so sometimes you get several similar mods out to choose from.......figuring out what's what, I'm sure for newcomers, is tricky. Thankfully, Palladin has developed a hack conflict scanner which has saved many nightmares I'm sure!

Also, for a while there, there was quite a bit of movement of modders; forming their own sites, and then breaking away and forming other ones. You had to be a bit of a CSI investigator to track down who went where. There was even a bit of tension for a while between some modders, and we lost one of our best; who actually gave up modding (Inge Jones) though she's now back in a limited kinda way. But it all seems to have settled down now, and most modders who started here, still post here even if they've moved elsewhere, or still maintain good relationships here, and you can find links to their work.

There was the usual drama with the various EPs and stuff paks. Followed by lots of whining and a number of patches. So far, so good with Pets. A few bodyshop problems, but if people are careful about their downloads (though I have no idea to ocntrol that myself!), they should be alright.

MTS2 continues to boom, and produce offspring, and all is under control.

Phew! Well, there's the update. Ready to jump back into the fray?! lol! Good luck. Have fun! Now, back to my lurking......

Thanks for the update. A lot has definitely changed and I'm still relearning what I've forgotten. Um, so some feedback, what issues are people having with the build/buy mode enabler? I have tried it out with all the expansions - minus the current holiday pack - and it works for me (which is unfortunate becasue that means I don't know why it doesn't work for you).

So tell me, what exact problems are people having? Is there anybody who can use this hack with all the expansions and for those who can't, is it a matter of not being able to return to live mode?

Thanks for the info. I'll check the code and start updating.

This is working for me on all community lots: Downtown, Bluewater and the main neighbourhood (Pleasantview). I have all EPs and GLS and FFS.

I am able to go into build and buy modes, and build and buy stuff, and return to live mode and continue play.

Okay, so this one works for all expansions up to seasons even though it was only made for up to pets. The reason being is that the code has not changed. However, at my own site I have made another version. This one allows build/buy mode when there are fires and other disabling events. This one (at my site) requires all expansions up to seaons however.

Love this mod. I never really knew how much until I couldn't use it any more. Any chance of getting it updated for Bon Voyage (pretty please).
I was experiencing a problem where the game would not recognize hotel room doors and couldn't reserve a room/couldn't check in. Not sure if it's related to not being able to check in but I also was unable to save on vacation lots.
My thanks in advance.

Yes updating for Bv would be great. I do not use it now (see prev post # 58)
I have to type a dorm cheat every time sims visit downtown but I can stand it
THe problem is in katy76 kiosks - sims cannot put anything into the inventory - the "hand" tool of Live Mode is disabled.

Currently playing Sims 4 full collection. (and fixing my mods folder)

does anyone know, does it work with AL? I am getting ready to try it out.

Update: Ok...I have all expansions and stuff packs up to and including AL....the BV version of this mod works fine so far. I have not had any crashes while on a community lot. It does not affect build and buy mode for Apartments - all features that were disabled in build mode prior to installing are still disabled. Great job on this mod!
