Don't Wash Dishes Where You Angry Poop

Updated 02-21-2019 --- Updated for the February 21, 2019 game patch (1.50.67) to add some changes which will be required for the next game pack.

Companion Mod If you like this mod, you will probably also want to get the Don't Prep Food Where You Angry Poop mod.

Update - There is now a Default Enabled version available for download. If you switch from one version to the other remember to remove the old mod's script (the package files are identical between versions).

Description

This mod allows you to set individual sinks on any lot to enable or disable dish washing at that sink. Since it uses a script to setup the object states for the sinks, it should be compatible with any sinks in the game (even from expansion packs I don't have).

After installation, the default for sinks on all lots will be to NOT allow dishes to be washed at that sink (UPDATE: there is now a Default Enabled version for download). Simply click on any sink and choose Enable Dish Washing to allow Sims to wash dishes at that sink. The setting is saved along with the save game as it uses a standard object state to remember the setting.

I chose this approach for this mod as I often use what would typically be considered a "kitchen" sink on cabinets in a bathroom, and sometimes vice-versa. Instead, the player is allowed to select what sinks should be used. Again, the default is to not allow dish washing. If no sinks are enabled on a lot, Sims will instead simply throw away the dishes in the trash.

Note for users of SCAM Autonomy must be on for the dish washing interactions on the sink in order for this to work. If you wish to turn off autonomy for dish washing, turn off the clean autonomy on the dishes themselves. Turning off dish washing autonomy on the sink will make Sims unable to find an appropriate sink that you have enabled for dish washing.

Removing the mod will return sink behaviour to normal and allow Sims to wash dishes at any sink.

Installation Instructions and Compatibility

To install, unzip the two files contained in the download file into your game's mod folder. It can be placed in a sub-folder if desired. It uses a script, so the mod cannot be installed more than one sub-folder deep.

This mod was written and tested on Windows for The Sims 4 version 1.44.77.1020 (June 19, 2018). It should be compatible with any stuff or game packs and most other mods.

The package for this mod overrides the autonomous dish washing interactions for sinks. Any other mod which alters these resources will conflict with this mod:
  • S4_E882D22F_00000000_00000000000037A0 (sink_washDishes)
  • S4_E882D22F_00000000_00000000000037A2 (sink_washSingleDish)
  • S4_E882D22F_00000000_000000000001870D (sink_washDish_After_Eat_Counter)
  • S4_E882D22F_00000000_0000000000012485 (sink_washDish_After_Eat)
  • S4_E882D22F_00000000_0000000000018708 (sink_washDishes_Counter)

The game's object tunings are overriden in the script, which allows it to be compatible with other mods that override those objects. In addition, it will automatically adapt to new game packs that add additional sinks without requiring further additions to the package. All sinks which are found to contain the sink_washSingleDish are patched with the required object states to enable or disable sink washing and remember your settings.

The script uses features of the game that have been stable for years and are not likely to break in future patches.

This mod uses the ts4script file format for the script portion of the mod and cannot be installed automatically with a mod manager (until a mod manager is updated to support these files). To install the mod manually, extract both the package and ts4script files from the download into your mods folder.

Script mods must be enabled in your game options for this mod to work properly.

Nobody's bought me a Mac yet, so until I hear from someone who tries it out, I can only assume it will work on a Mac. I don't know of any reason why it wouldn't work.

This behavior is driving me mad... I tried both versions, but it seems they don't work on Mac. As soon as I have the mod installed (either version), my Sims can't wash dishes anymore. They can only throw them away (not that eco friendly). Is there any way to solve this? Would love to be able to use this so my Sims start acting slightly more normal...

The mod should work on Mac without any issues. Make sure you have the sink you want to use enabled. If you click on it and the prompt is "Enable Washing" then that means that dish-washing is turned off for that sink, you want to click that menu to enable it.

It sounds though that the script is just not installed properly. You need to make sure your game is fully patched, and you have the latest version of the mod installed. You should have two files in your Mods folder
  • MTS_Scumbumbo_DontWashDishesWhereYouAngryPoop.package
  • MTS_Scumbumbo_DontWashDishesWhereYouAngryPoop_SCRIPT.ts4script
If you are placing the files in a subfolder for organizing your mods, make sure that the files are not more than ONE subfolder deep - this is a requirement for script mods.

In other words, they could be in a folder named "Mods/Scumbumbo/" but if placed in a folder named "Mods/Scumbumbo/Dishwashing/" then the script will not function!

I finally downloaded this Mod on suggestion from the MCCC Discord to try and solve this issue with it instead of it's built-in SCAM (I now understand what went wrong there thanks to part of your Description, by the way...don't disable washing dishes on the sink with that!). Thanks so much for this!

P.S. - Best Mod name EVER.

My script file is only 1 directory deep in the Mods folder, and I'm experiencing this issue too. I wanted to install this mod when I finally got a dishwasher for my kitchen (there was no sink there when I moved in) and they STILL wanted to go to the bathroom sink.

I'll try placing the script and package file in the main Mods directory instead of one sublevel deep, but I'm doubting that will resolve the issue.

Nope. Files in the main Mods directory and it still doesn't work. I'm wondering if there's a conflict with another mod I'm using? But I have no idea what that would possibly be since nothing else I use directly involves sinks.

Are you using the default enabled or standard version? The standard version means that sinks do not allow washing dishes by default, you have to enable them first. The default enabled version means all sinks allow washing dishes by default, and you can turn them off.

I tried both. For both I made sure that the one I wanted them to use was enabled and the one I didn't want them to use was disabled. They'll completely ignore the dishwasher too in favor of this bathroom sink, which I've replaced to no avail. (And with this mod installed and that sink disabled, they STILL wouldn't use the dishwasher and had to be directed to throw away.) I haven't tried this on other lots. Maybe just a bugged lot?

Yeah, it's a good idea to try another lot - have seen issues (although mostly with the "Don't Prep Food" version) where an overhanging item (ceiling lamp, pots and pans hanger, etc.) can interfere with Sim's routing to the destination which likely won't occur on another lot. This can go unnoticed if they can route to another target, but with only one target enabled they will cancel instead. There's some screenshots of one example of this earlier in the Don't Prep thread: http://www.modthesims.info/download...960#post5432960 demonstrating how to fix an issue like that by tweaking the placement of the blocking item.

ETA - And of course the typical checks that there isn't an old version of the package or script for this mod hanging around somewhere and getting in the way of the current version working.

To clarify:
  • DontWashDishesWhereYouAngryPoop.zip Sinks are NOT enabled by default and must be enabled in order for dish washing to take place at that sink.
  • DontWashDishesWhereYouAngryPoop_DefaultEnabled.zip Sinks are enabled by default. They must be disabled in order to prevent dish washing at that sink.

Is it normal that once the default mod is in, plates only have the option to "throw away"? Oh and I should add, that while the sink wasn't working (unrelated to the mod) and they couldn't wash up, they didn't throw away either, they just kept picking up the plate to clean then set it down again.

Yes, if there's no sink that is actually enabled then the Sims will only be able to throw plates away. If you previously installed the standard version of the mod where sinks are disabled by default, saved your game, and then reload with the "default enabled" version of the mod that will not affect the existing sinks in the save game as they have already been turned off.

I don't have any issues with a broken sink also breaking the ability to throw away plates, so might be a broken or otherwise unusable trash can on your lot.

One known glitch in the game causing dishes only to be able to be thrown away is using any of the large round dining tables that seat six Sims. Sims can't clean plates up off of those for some strange reason. It's been going on since Backyard Stuff was released with the first large round dining table. I very rarely use those myself, but I still see complaints pop up about them sometimes over on Answers HQ.

Okay, I have read the comments and I am having the problem with the game only allowing "throw away" for dishes where the sink is ENABLED for dish washing. BUT...this only happens in certain houses! I've tried base game sinks and CC sinks...same problem. So, after playing around with it more, it finally worked. Someone in comments had it right! It was a cabinet & shelf OVER the sink! I don't know why it was in the way, but my problem is solved. Hopefully, this helps.
