Color Binning Tool

The color binning tool is a custom plugin for SimPE 0.63+

Its purpose is to change custom hair packages so that custom hair recolors appear in the standard color bins.

It was designed to be easy to use: on each standard color tab, you can load a hair package file; after you load the four packages into their respective bins, you can save the result.

There is no need to edit any PropertySet, as the binning logic is already done for you.

More information and some tutorials can be found in the plugin's website:

- Extract the file theos.gbct.plugin.dll
- Copy it into SimPE's Plugins folder, which in a default installation is at C:\Program Files\SimPE\Plugins
- Run SimPE and verify that you have a menu item named "Color Binning Tool" under SimPE's Tools menu.

Basic Usage
After the plugin is installed, start SimPE.

On the Tools menu, click on the "Color Binning Tool" item, and the plugin's main window should appear. Initially, the "Black" color tab is selected by default.

Use the "Package" menu or the context menu to load a package file into the selected tab. Repeat this process for the other tabs (Brown, Blond and Red).

You can select which age groups you wish to keep or remove on each color tab. You must pay special attention to the fact that a properly binned hair should have only one elder (grey) recolor, so you must choose carefully one elder recolor out of the four available.

On most cases you can ignore the Grey and Custom tabs, so you may proceed to review the package options (available in the menu Package->Options), and finally save the resulting package files.

I would like to thank to everyone that contributed to this project, and in particular to Motoki, for giving the momentum that started this project; Pinhead, whose invaluable knowledge put the code right on track again; and of course all the folks at MATY that were willing to test the plugin on its early stages.

Basic Download and Install Instructions:

1. Download: Click the download link to save the .rar or .zip file(s) to your computer.

2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file.

3. Place in Downloads Folder: Cut and paste the .package file(s) into your Downloads folder:

I have found that the "hat" checkbox does not make the game recognize the hair as a hat. (Checked by putting the hair on a sim and looking at their Nightlife qualities in SimPE.) By comparing property sets and sim qualities for several different recolors, I found that I was able to make a hair into a "hat" by changing its Property Sets "flags" string from 0x00000000 to 0x00000002. I hope this helps.

OMG.. I don't know how to say it any better than "I LOVE YOU"!!!

I just spent 2 happy days pruning my thousands of hairs and colour binning and getting rid of extra recolours and putting greys with them... oh the joy! Now my hair folder is just... well... beautiful! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

It worked right off, no problems for this dummy! Great ease of use - I'm so happy and impressed with the tool. I can't believe it was that easy... I'd never done it with SimPE before cos it all sounded so complicated... but loading up 5-6 hairs in a little programme... now that I CAN and DID do SOOOO easily!

This worked fine for me with the latest SimPE ( btw...

If at first you DO succeed, try not to look so astonished!

Ok, SimPE as you may know, was just updated again. Will this work with the new version? Or should I wait for the tool to be updated? Thanks =)

I have never used SimPE before and am a bit intimidated by it. I have wanted to bin my hair for quite a while and have researched the different methods out there. Theo's plug-in seems to be the easiest, from what everyone is saying, so I decided to bite the bullet and try my hand at it.

I have a couple questions about the process.

How do I know which hair needs to be binned when using the tool and if I 'rebin' a hair that already has been binned, wouldn't that cause problems? Since the hair needs to be renamed after the binning, wouldn't that make two of the same hair in the game and if it's an already binned hair, will it mess up my game?

I tried opening Body Shop to sort my hair but it crashes immediately after opening, I can't figure out what's wrong with it nor can I find a "fix" anywhere. I went through all my custom hair in game, got rid of the ones I don't use/like and wrote down some of the names of the hair, but the names in game aren't the same as the filename when using the color binning tool.

All I can say is: I. Love. You. x.x I hated having a ridiculous number of normal-coloured hairs in the custom section...

At this moment I am still making some test on it, as you requested...
what I have seen until this point is that it will not allow you to make one package for all the colors.. but for individual files is fine.
Let you know what else I find...

Wow, That is like, too cool for words! I'm so happy and thankful you took the time to make this program for us. It's cool because now, maybe some of my downtownies or students will be seen using my custom hair! Thank you a million,Theo, you are a true genius! :D

There is just one thing I wanted to say. (Don't worry, I'm not mad. ) I just wanted to say that when I tried to open a hair package in "SavedSims", it took some time to load. I waited about 3 minutes. This could be one of my own problems, maybe I'm missing a plugin? Sorry, I was just wondering if maybe you can help me with that. I really appreciate everything you've done, Theo! :D

I'm a bit confused as to what this means. I just downloaded and it seems to be the same file as the one Theo released in November last year - the file date, size and revision number are all the same.

WHYYYYY? Why is it doing this??? I get this error message and then, when I review the saved package file, all of the things that would normally be in their respective color-tabs are all bunched into one tab, doesn't seem to favor which, however. O.o?!

Hi! I've detected a small error (or maybe I've detected a small error in my brain and are now making a fool out of myself but oh well =P)

I spent a couple of days color binning all my downloaded Sim hair, but there was 2 or 3 files who simply wouldn't "obey", that I did the process with several times but it still only showed up in the custom bin. Why is that do you reckon? All of them was pretty old files, not newer creations, if that makes any difference.

Other than that I LOVE your tool, I hate having normal hair colours crowding in the custom bin. A while before I found this tool I actually considered deleting all the hairs in the custom bin that I didn't think fitted there, because I found myself less likely to use them when they were wrong-binned, and now I don't have to =D THANK YOU!
