OFB Sleep on Community Lots (discontinued)

Mini update: Squinge's hack is now also discontinued, but Numenor's (highly recommended) one is being actively maintained here:

IMPORTANT NEWS: (04 Mar 07) Based on the BHAV diff to seasons, this file will likely conflict with autonomous sleep code in Seasons. My intention at this time is to discontinue support for this hack, as Squinge has made a complete set of hacks which allow options about when sims can sleep on community lots. You can get his version here. I recommend removing the version from this post (as it will conflict) and installing one of those linked to above.

Thanks for your interest everyone, but (a) I prefer making object hacks to global hacks, and (b) there's not much point in having several people maintaining equivalent global hacks!

Pets update (05 Nov 06): The old version of this hack is not compatible with pets, and can cause "sinking pet syndrome" if your dog or cat is very tired! Please update to the latest version of this hack if you have installed or are planning to install pets. This is still considered a "testing" mod, but should now be compatible with any combination of OFB and Pets installed. IF YOU HAVE PETS, PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE LATEST VERSION!

Edit: Changed the required fatigue level for visitors so they'll sleep *before* complaining about being tired and leaving the lot. That should make visitors sleep properly on lots.

I noticed this evening that for some reason, OFB sims have been forbidden from sleeping in beds on community lots. This is very irritating.

This hack allows user controlled sims to sleep on beds placed on a community lots same as at home. Visitors to the lots (both community and home) should also be able to autonomously sleep in the beds, which is good for all the OFB hotel makers.

I have run this hack in my game, but unexpected side effects are still a possibility. If you notice any such unexpected side effects, please let me know!

It does work, you just have to be patient. not all sims are going to sleep there, and they won't all go to sleep at once.

Edit: It does happen more often if your hotel/motel is a home-based business it seems, but I am still testing this theory.

Thank you so much i have been waiting for this!

Does this allow you to select the 'sleep' option? (all I get is relax) or do they go to bed when they feel tired?

Mine (controlled) just seems to goto bed and relax (which improves his social lol)

Do you just ignore it when it has that exclamation point on the custom content intro in the begining of the game?

elejence - this is for beds only, not couches
VS - The exclaimation mark just says that it's a hack. If you're fine with that (cause it is a hack!) then just ignore it.

This is the first time I have actually written on one of the Sims Fans web pages. I had to do it now. I have to say I am soooo impressed with so many talented people out there. Echo, I have had your rug meshes probably since day one! Every single one of my houses has rugs based on your meshes. Many years ago I wanted to be an architect. It didn't happen, but for years one of my hobbies has been drawing out house plans, whether they were a tiny shack or a humongous (sp?)mansion. One year my daughter asked for the original Sims for Christmas. Well, to make a long story short, she showed me how the game worked, and I kicked her out of the chair. I have been playing the Sims since then and have bought every expansion of Sims 1 and now Sims 2. I love creating many buildings, including hotels. I accidentally came across this hack when I was looking at hotels/inns. Like many of the comments I have read in this thread, I also wished we could use the hotels and have the Sims actually sleep in the beds. I have not dowloaded it yet, but I sure will. Again, Echo, thank you for your super talents!!! A very impressed fan!

Hi echo, first of all thank you very much for this -- I still don´t believe w.t.h Maxis spent time on disallowing Sims to sleep on Comm Lots instead of fixing the game. Anyway.. without this 'feature' I guess half of the fun is lost on Comm Lots here.

Unfortunely I´m experiencing crashes since I first 'installed' your hack (today). I have many hacks but nearly sure that none of them conflicts with yours or modifies Beds behaviours. Generally I install a hack individually and play for awhile to see if it works and with yours happened to crash 4 times =/ I´d like to know if you saw something about this lately.. I have all the EPs and SPs and REALLY looking forward to use this hack you made. If you can get me any kind of help or way to fix it I truly thank you. (Maybe OfB patches made it incompatible?)

(ps: The only way I know for finding these conflicts is really with "trial & error" methods, is there any new tool and/or new way to do it already? Somebody knows? -- lot of time time w/out playing/modding/w.e)
EDIT: About a detecting conflicts tool I just found one on -- as soon I get some results I tell)

Wirapuru - this is certainly unusual, there's not really a lot in the file that would make crashing possible. At what point is the game crashing for you? On community lots or residential lots? In the menu or during gameplay?

(Sorry the late reply - I had something here heh kinda sick then gone asleep =/ )

Yes Echo, it was happenning only when I played on that Comm Lot with one bed and one Vampire Coffin. The weird - and one reason why I think it could be your hack - is that I still can´t sleep on neither of them.. the Sim won´t sleep even with a full Energy RED bar, what could be happenning? Can you confirm to me if it is working in a TS2+EP1+EP2+EP3(patch 2)+SP1+SP2 game?

Ops - about what you asked - 2 situations where the game crashed were: while loading the Comm Lot and after playing few minutes it suddenly crashes. But really never was when I tried something with the bed/vampire coffin.

I´ll continue the tests in here and anything I find I tell.. thanks for replying =]

EDIT: Geez.. all fixed at last unfortunely I don´t know for sure what hack was conflicting all around here.. I left about 10 hacks only from the almost 40 I had and suddenly I could sleep on Comm Lots and (so far) no crashes.. the weird is that Paladin´s Conflict Detection Tool didn´t detect anything between your hack and another before hummm anyway, thank you vm for the hack and help Echo, if I find the source of all this mess and waste of time -- errr srry for that -- I tell..

Nice work! Crashes? Has anyone else besides Wirapuru had these problems?

Someday, we'll all look back on this, and then plow into a parked car.

Just to reaffirm, Echo's great hack is working perfectly now and didn´t crashed anymore. Certainly was some old/unsupported hack conflicting with it. Anyone should try this one, for me is the best Community Sleeping hack I used (tried another 2 that worked but having all the autonomous control from Echo's is great)

eniroc - There was a possibility of this, yes. I made a note of it in my journal:
Due to the fact that I'm an Aussie, I won't get a copy of pets until over a week after the US. Consequently, I cannot confirm 100% that my items/hacks will work as intended until then. Most of my creations are reasonably low risk, as their code is all local and self contained. Only the "sleep on community lots" hack overrides global behaviours, so that is the only mid to high risk file.

If you do have the pets EP and any of my objects, then I would appreciate a note to say if any of the hacked objects show any sign of misbehaving either here or in the relevant download thread. Thanks, and enjoy the extra week of gaming you all get!

Thanks for the note, I'll amend the first post, and let you know if/when I get a replacement made.
