You'll have to make sure that your roads and terrain match well enough that you don't put roads into neighborhood water. That's the only solution that I can think of.

I've been having trouble copying the terrain from one neighborhood to another. Holes appear in the location where lots are. Do I have to remove the lots before I copy the terrain to another neighborhood?

No, you do not have to remove the lots. However, you probably want to ensure that the lot elevation is fixed (second column of checkboxes). If you don't fix the elevation of existing lots, then they could be much lower than the surrounding neighborhood terrain.

Sorry, I didn't explain that too well . I meant that the terrain I'm copying contains lots, and the one I'm putting the terrain into does not.

I do not know of any problems copying from a neighborhood with lots to a neighborhood without lots. A picture might help me to understand your problem.

More info:

These neighborhoods are from The Sims Pet Stories, I'm trying to transfer them to The Sims 2. I had no trouble doing this with "Victor's Story" in The Sims Life Stories.

I'm not sure that HoodReplace works with Pets Stories. There's no reason to believe that it will. Since Life Stories and Pet Stories are different games, HR working with one doesn't ensure that it will work with the other. In order to test this, I would need access to the Pet Stories neighborhoods.

Are you transferring directly from Pet Stories, or are you creating new Sims 2 neighborhoods using the Pet Stories terrains, then using HoodReplace on those Sims 2 neighborhoods?

I'm transferring it directly. I couldn't find the .sc4's anywhere in the game files. I was thinking about maybe using these: http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=245570

Though I'm not sure how they got access to them and if they are identical or not.

That sounds like a reasonable plan to me.

Just one more question: did you complete the stories before attempting the transfer?

I'll give it a shot, hopefully all goes well.

No, but I'll try doing that another time. Thanks for the help.

I had a bit of an odd problem...I was using the Hood Replacer to copy roads to my downtown and forgot I had SimPE open. I received a "this neighborhood is being used..." message, closed SimPE and waited for the process to end, then hit continue. I didn't get the "successful" notice and the hourglass was spinning when I moused over the application. I left it alone for several minutes and then tried hitting copy again. Got the successful notification, started up my computer, and my downtown was gone. The button was grayed out in the main menu and everything. I do still have the downtown .package in my NH folder, and it shows up in Hood Replacer as symbols rather than the name now. I have used the Hood Replacer several times before, and even in the same situation (SimPE being open) with no problems.
Of course I didn't back up my neighborhood, so my questions are thus;
Is it possible to restore the downtown? And if not, would it be safe to continue playing the main hood? Thank you for any help!

This is why the download post suggests "Be sure to backup your game before using this tool."

Running two or more programs at the same time, each of which need exclusive access to a file is never a good idea. If this has worked for you in the past, you've been very lucky. I cannot recommend that you do this.

It's impossible to know just how corrupted things are without looking at the files. It may be possible to get your downtown back, but I would have to see the entire neighborhood to see whether I can figure out what the problem is. You would have to zip up the entire folder and put it onto a file-sharing site.

Trust me, I will definitely be backing up my files from here on out. Thank you for the quick response, I really appreciate your looking into this. Especially because I am painfully aware that this is a case of user error and not the fault of your wonderful tool.

I have uploaded the file to dropbox here . If I can do anything to help or expedite the process for you please let me know. Thank you again!

Looks like you're in luck. The automatic backup that HR made looks OK to me. Just delete the Downtown package and rename the Downtown .BKP to .PACKAGE.

I'm so happy to hear that! Thank you so so much for your help Mootilda!
You have helped me out before once or twice in the general help threads and I really appreciate it; if I can make/help/test something for you I would be happy to do so. My skill set is currently rather limited - basic to intermediate knowledge of SimPE and some recoloring - so I'm not sure what I could do for you but if you think of anything... Also, previous experience aside, I am usually good at following directions.
Thanks again!

I love this program, I am considering a major Neighbourhood renovation. Is there any way to get the Sc4 terrain file for the Maxis Downtown?

I would like to add roads to my downtown, but I used the maxis one so I don't have an Sc4 terrain file. I've tried to think of ways to do it, maybe using your program to make a copy of the maxis downtown and somehow edit the copy, then use that to replace my existing one. But my brain isn't working.

Unfortunately, there's no way to extract an SC4 file from the Sims 2. It's on my to-do list, but it will take some work.

Try asking in the WCIF forum to see whether anyone knows of a Downtown SC4 available for download.

I have a rather strange issue that I am not sure this is really the place to be posting about it. I use Pescado's local walkby mod, and anytime I change the terrain with HoodReplace, the mod instantly and continually throws visitor generator errors that vanish if I remove the mod. I do understand that this isn't really an issue with Hood Replace, but I wondered if you maybe had any other suggestions than removing the mod, or never replacing a terrain?

It's difficult to imagine how these two things could interact; they are accessing completely different data. Let me see whether I can reproduce your problem.

I probably should mention it has usually been fairly drastic changes, replacing terrain and roads with something entirely different, not a replace to edit a few roads or something like that.

I'm trying to add roads to Bluewater. I have the Bluewater.sc4 terrain file in the SimCity 4 downloads folder, however when I try to import it, the downloads folder show as empty. I've tried this with a few different sc4's and it seems I can't import any Maxis sc4's, I can however import custom ones that I have downloaded. Any Ideas?

Do you have Rush Hour or Deluxe? If not, the SC4 file may require the EP.
