Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.

HoodReplace Version 2.3:

The HoodReplace program will copy any selection of: terrain, roads, bridges, trees and decorations from one Sims 2 neighborhood to another, completely replacing the selected elements from the existing neighborhood.

There is an option to fix the elevation of various elements. Structures, such as lots, will be moved up or down to touch the new terrain. This should reduce problems such as lots flying in the air or disappearing underground. At this time, the elevation of bridges cannot be adjusted.

There is also an option to remove an entire type of structures, such as all trees or all decorations.

Because this program allows you to select which elements to copy, rather than having to copy everything, you can do things which used to be very difficult. For example: you can now add roads to a neighborhood without losing your existing neighborhood trees and decorations.

Version 2.3 adds the option to fix the elevation of roads.

Installation:
To install, just download HoodReplace.zip and unzip it. Run the EXE from the unzipped location.

This is "alpha" software and is still in development; it is not guaranteed to work and may corrupt your neighborhoods. Be sure to backup your game before using this tool.

I have included the source code for version 2.2 in HoodReplaceSource.zip. There is no need to download this file unless you are a C# programmer who wishes to look at or modify the code.

I left the previous version (PreviousHoodReplace.zip) available, in case there are any unforseen problems. There is no need to download this file.

Requirements:
- The program uses some DLLs from SimPE; they are included in the zip file.
- HoodReplace is released under the GNU General Public License.
- You need the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 to run HoodReplace:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...s.aspx?id=20137

Instructions:
- Make sure that you are not running other programs which access your save game, such as the game itself, BodyShop, SimPE, or any other program which modifies the save game.
- Backup your game files.
- Run HoodReplace.EXE and select the "from" and "to" neighborhoods. If your neighborhood is not in the standard location, use the Browse button to select the neighborhood.
- Choose all of the neighborhood elements which you want to replace.
- Choose whether to fix the elevation of each type of element.
- Choose whether to remove all elements of a specific type.
- Click on the Copy button.

Tutorials:
Adding Roads to an Existing Neighborhood:
http://www.modthesims2.com/showpost...389&postcount=4

Known Issues:
1) HoodReplace has been tested with all EPs and SPs up to and including Mansion and Garden Stuff. It may not work with later EPs and SPs.

2) Even when HoodReplace fixes the elevation, there is a possibility that an element will be partially underground or in the air.

You should be able to resolve many of these issues by moving the objects by hand in the neighborhood view. If problems continue, try repeatedly running HoodReplace and then moving the lots and objects in the neighborhood to adjust their elevation. Each iteration should bring you closer to your desired result.

Extra Goodies:
- The Pleasantview SC4 file which shipped with the game doesn't actually match the Pleasantview neighborhood terrain. If you want to add roads to Pleasantview, you can download Melly_Sim's fixed Pleasantview SC4 file, attached here.

Notes:
- This program is an enhancement of my tutorial:

I probably should mention it has usually been fairly drastic changes, replacing terrain and roads with something entirely different, not a replace to edit a few roads or something like that.

I'm trying to add roads to Bluewater. I have the Bluewater.sc4 terrain file in the SimCity 4 downloads folder, however when I try to import it, the downloads folder show as empty. I've tried this with a few different sc4's and it seems I can't import any Maxis sc4's, I can however import custom ones that I have downloaded. Any Ideas?

Do you have Rush Hour or Deluxe? If not, the SC4 file may require the EP.

Mootilda, I have a question..I didn't see anything in the main post about this so I figured I'd ask you. If I have Sims already in the Neighborhood and I completely replace it, for example Bluewater to Strangetown what will happen to the Sims house/etc?

The Bluewater lots will remain in the neighborhood unless you delete them, and those lots will contain the families.

I understand that, but, I have my Sims in a neighborhood, my question is if I put a new neighborhood over my Sims that is different than the neighborhood they're currently in what will happen to my Sims and their houses?

The lots and families will remain in the neighborhood. I'm sorry if I don't understand what you're asking.

Let me try to explain, I'll use an example:

Lets say I have the standard Maxis Strangetown, nothing added or changed, and I replace the neighborhood with a blank neighborhood over it, what will happen to the Sims... will they still be there and if so what will happen to their placement.

Sorry for confusing you.

If you have Strangetown and you replace the neighborhood with a blank neighborhood, you will still have the Strangetown lots and families, in the same locations.

Yes, but it doesn't work out as I thought it would... I had Sims in the side of mountains and Sims in the blue abyss outside of the terrain.

so you need to move the houses BEFORE you swap the terrain or there is an option to fix the elevation of various elements. Structures, such as lots, will be moved up or down to touch the new terrain. This should reduce problems such as lots flying in the air or disappearing underground. At this time, the elevation of bridges cannot be adjusted.

I used this program and moved all my lots to a small area where I knew the new terrain would be flat and then redistributed the houses in the new terrain.

I understand that, but if the terrain I am copying from is smaller than the one I want to copy to it still has the blue abyss, I also assumed it would put the roads from the new terrain it doesn't, so in my case I had a Bluewater Village with Strangetown roads... Forgive me if I am missing something.

After running HoodReplace, move the lots where you want them and then run HoodReplace again to copy a fresh terrain to fix any problems which arose.

To copy the roads, choose "Replace" for the roads option.

This is an amazing tool, it worked perfectly first time. Yes I had to move some lots out of the water and then lower the water as it popped up but wow, little job for me to do with such a huge benefit ... I thank you so much for your fantastic downloads Mootilda and I am sorry I haven't thanked you before, especially now given the circumstances. May you rest in peace xxxx

I just used the hoodreplacer. I was scared to do it, but it was so easy and my hood looks so wonderful. Thanks so much mootilda, we miss you!

I'm not sure if anyone is going to see this, but I'm having some difficulties and I'm not sure what is causing it or how to fix it. I have a university on a dirt terrain which I want to copy over to a uni with a lush terrain. They are the same maps, so it should be easy. I managed to get everything copied over but the lots, and since it was built with lotadjuster I can't just place them in the new neighbourhood. Anyone have any idea how I can get the lots copied over?

Don't think this has been mentioned so might as well mention in case anyone else was looking. After hood replacing everything seemed to be correct except for the fact all neighbourhood decorations (and the vehicles on the road) were solid black. Changing an in-game graphic setting (I think it was lighting) put it right though. And thankfully I didn't need to keep those changes.

Question for whoever bothers - can I use this application to use a specific neighborhood as a vacation subhood? For example, if I copied the neighborhood I wanted to Twikkii Island, it should function that way, right? I just really don't want to go through all the steps in the changing neighborhoods tutorial, it's too much for me, lol.

Update - I just tried what I mentioned above and it worked except the lots didn't move over. Pretty cool I can use Paraiso as a vacation subhood tho, it rocks! I just have to package and reinstall the lots.
