"Enhanced lighting system for the Sims 2. Uses physics laws of light
to ensure the most realistic lighting possible within The Sims 2."

2.4 APL-29
-Added optional files. 2 types of unlit room darknesses and a balance to all lights
-removed indoor sunlight color saturation.
-Increased unlit room brightness at night
-Decreased orb lights and few table lamps diffusive Strength
-Changed two street light colors from yellow to white
-Adjusted Sims and object overall light strength
-Adjusted seasons, morning, and evening
-Adjusted winter, Spring, and Fall indoor portal spill to match better with summer
-Adjusted cloudy day, will now resemble winter as but a bit darker and grey
-Fixed street lamp from M and G from casting a very weak light, again

This is all based on Gunmod's Radiance Light System 2.1 and 2.2 made compatible for all expansion packs including stuff packs. I've included the pool shader from 2.2, It should not be used with Seasons if you have useshaders on true. All credit belongs to Gunmod, Previous versions are not needed.

General Changes from 2.2:
>Compatibility for all EP's and SP’s
>Specular highlights for indoors and with usershaders on.
>Fixes to errors found on certain objects and lamps in base game.
>Corrected Dance and Neon lights and color.
>Adjustments to Day, night, Seasons and weather.
>Adjustments to dawn and dusk.
>Adjustments to Archways and Glass doors to make them cast more correctly.
>Adjustments to all light objects and windows.
>Adjustments to Userstartup.cheat
>Increase all light brightness and fallout range.
>Increase Doors and windows fallout range.

Ok, I was wondering if Sims 2 Best of Business collection expansion pack, Sims 2 Fun With Pets Collection Expansion pack and Sims 2 University Life Collection Expansion packs are supported, because I installed all of these expansions and installed the lighting for the stuff pack and expansion packs in the folders but things don't seem quite right, I don't think they will be making anymore expansions, so can somebody update this to work with these new packs, my guess is the lighting files and a lot of the files are different in these new expansions than the normal stuff packs even though they use some of the same games. Considering I have most EP's the game looks pretty good but a lot of the lighting that requires the EP'S and SP'S in these Collections don't seem to work right. So could someone please update it!

Er, I tried my best to think on how to install it. But I'm to scared. I read the way to install it on the original one. But, I am a total failure. I don't want to accidentally install it wrong. But I want to use it so bad. It look's beautiful<3 (I know it seems simple, but I am just a failure. xD)

This is brilliant. My game looks beautiful now and way more realistic. I greatly appreciate how easy you've made it to install, as well. Good work!

MajinKitty230- click the 'Install Instructions' tab for details of how to install. These files do not go into your download folder.

I really like the way the lights that DO work correctly look, but I can't live with not being able to use most of my lights.

Middlemore-- extract the file you download here onto your desktop. In another window, go into "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES" there you will see a bunch of folders that each have the name of an EP or SP you have. Now go into the file that you downloaded here and go into the folder "The Sims 2." then go into "The Sims 2" from your program files. Double click on all of the folders in the downloaded file until you get to the "Lights" folder. In you program files directory, go through all the folders with the same names of the ones you had to go through to get to the "Lights" folder. Drag the "lights" folder from the downloaded file into the folder that houses the lights folder in your program files.

Do this with each EP and SP you have. (the SPs are in a dif. folder in the downloaded file -- just double click on the ___StuffPacks folder and do the same with these you did with your EPs.)

I really hope that all made sence. Contact me if you need help understanding that mumbo jumbo I wrote.

I am still very confused and I am very sorry to ask a question someone had already asked, but, I dont really get where I can find the program files...? I do have three EPs including Pets, Family Fun, and Mansion and Garden. I cannot find where to put the extracted folders. It would be very kind if anyone could answer! Thank you(:

#484 Old 21st Jun 2012 at 4:23 PM
Oh my gosh, I am speechless..! My game has never looked better. I thought I was just going to use this for movie making, but I'm going to use this for gameplay as well! The performance seem to have increased as well (or maybe that's because of a camera mod :P) So that's just perfect! 1000 thanks!

But just one question, should you have shadows on high as well?

You can get the installer for Scriptorium and in the installation you can choose to install Radiance as well. Scriptorium itself is for custom modular stairs, walls, etc. and is useful to have either way. It's much easier this way.

Just a lurker lurking through... mostly.

Sometimes I'm more interested in Sims than others, so I tend to disappear and reappear at random.

I have some great news for Mac OS X users in this post!

Now, I play sims 2 on the mac, and like many users find most mod things like this are not useable for mac and saw no instructions how to install on mac.
But I decided to check out the rest of the post anyways and suddenly had an idea! I tried my idea... and it WORKED. To my amazement, I have this mod installed for sims 2 on the mac!!

Now I will post the instructions and some screenshots of my experience.
Before I go on though, please please please only do this is you 110% understand the instructions. This is for ADVANCED USERS ONLY. Incase you're still not listening *YOU ARE AT YOUR OWN RISK*. I will tell you what to backup so please make sure you do!

My specs are as follows, and are for Mac OS X 10.4.11
VGA: ATI Radeon X1600
Processor: Intel Core Duo
Processor Speed: 1.83 GHz
Expansions: Uni, NL, OFB, Seasons
Please make sure your graphics card can support pixel shader 2.0!
Lighting and Shadows set to high

I kept boolprop useshaders false in userstartup.cheat, since it was set that way at default. Have not tested it with them on, so once again, at your own risk. Though I doubt it would harm to try it, your screen just might go black.

Also, it is annoying but your computer will prompted when overwriting files for your admin password while performing the instructions. You will need to know what your computer's admin password is.

Do NOT (repeat NOT!) Try to overwrite the folders directly by dragging tsdata onto your previous tsdata . Unlike windows, mac will not just overwrite files with the same name, but the ENTIRE folder (deleting any files within). Doing so may remove an entire expansion pack! This is very avoidable though if you follow the instructions clearly (more on this later).

I don't have any stuff packs, but I think they will appear in macintosh hd/the sims 2/stuff packs OR the expansion packs folder, and will have the same procedure as far as I know. (maybe someone can say something about this?)

I assume you've installed your game to the main hard drive.

Worried yet? Really, this is not so hard but I would like to be thorough.

Instructions to install for Mac OS X (finally!)
1. Backing up:
The following files/folders need/must to be backed up to a separate copy.
(If you are overly paranoid, you can backup your entire sims 2 folder in your Hard Drive and Documents Folder to a DVD which you may have done regularly) ::

Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Config/userStartup.Cheat
Macintosh HD/The Sims 2/TSData/Res/Lights
Macintosh HD/The Sims 2/Expansion Packs/EXPANSIONNAME/Res/Lights

Must do that for every expansion pack you have! example:
you have nightlife it would be located at:
Macintosh HD/The Sims 2/Expansion Packs/Nightlife/Res/Lights

2. Now that you have backed up going to edit the userStartup.Cheat manually.
navigate to Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Config/userStartup.Cheat
cntrl click > open with > other > find textedit in applications folder
copy paste into the top of the text file:
#### GUNMOD ####
ignoreErrors true
boolProp UseShaders false
boolProp specHighlights true
boolProp vs2LoopsFunctional true
floatProp geomBoneInfluenceThreshold 0.01
floatProp geomGeneratedTangentSpaceNormalLineLength 0.1
floatProp geomMorphTargetDeltaThreshold 0.001
floatProp geomPerBoneBoundBlendWeightThreshold 0.9
intProp geomGenerateTangentSpaceNormalLines 1
intProp geomMaxBoneInfluencesPerVertex 4
intProp geomMaxMorphTargetDeltasPerVertex 4
boolProp skipTangentsInVertexData false
##boolProp liveCameraConstraints false
boolProp enumerateMultisampleLevels true
boolProp floorAndWallNormalMapping true
boolProp geomCheckGeomDataIntegrity false
boolProp geomGenerateTangentSpaceSxT true
boolProp gpuCompositing true
boolProp bumpMapping true
uintProp lightRadianceRangeCutoff 999999
Save and Close.

3. Here is the hard part!
First navigate to
Macintosh HD/The Sims 2/TSData/Res/Lights

Then open the extracted /The Sims 2/TSData/Res/Lights folder for RLS 2.3 on your desktop.
Copy the files within and replace them with the files in the previous folder.
Do NOT try to drag drop the extracted The Sims 2 folder into your Macintosh HD/The Sims 2/ It will UNINSTALL your game. You may be prompted for admin password.

Repeat this process for the expansion packs but navigate to:
Macintosh HD/The Sims 2/Expansion Packs/EXPANSIONNAME/Res/Lights

You will have to navigate to each single res/lights folder for each expansion pack you own, and replace the files within with the RLS files. (and probably prompted for password every-time) Please try to keep track of it! Luckily I only had four expansions . Whatever you do, do not get lazy and drag drop the folders! You can/will UNINSTALL your expansions if you do that! I can't be held responsible for negligence .

4. Cross your fingers, go in game and behold how amazing

Final notes:
My experience has been wonderful so far, otherwise I wouldn't even bother to post all of this hard work. I know not many people use mac so maybe not even many will try this, because it was some work but really it's harder sounding then it was (but totally worth it!) It does get rather dark at night (when i first started up it was totally dark at night!) and I had to use many more lights then before, but the realism and "Radiance" is so beautiful I'm not sure how I played before without Thank you once again.
i dont have a userstart up cheat help!!!!!!!!!!
