TS4 Package Searcher (Windows Only)

01/02/2019 - I've added a version of the EXE-Only download which is identical to the original v1.1 download but compiled with Visual Studio 2015 instead of 2017. This may be an option for those whose virus scanners are reporting a false positive with the original v1.1 download.

Note: This is an intermediate difficulty tool, but very usable by a novice - however if you do not know what an Instance ID is, or have not been directed by someone on an id to search for, you should probably not download this.

Update Info
  • Version 1.1 (November 29, 2018)
    • Invalid or corrupt package files will generate warning dialogs
    • Files are tested to ensure they are not locked by a running game
    • Fixed an exception that could occur if the program is closed while a search is in progress
    • Changed rar version used for compatibility with older archive programs
    • Migrated source code project to Visual Studio 2017

Mod Description
You know you have a bad resource in your game mods, perhaps from a Last Exception, but you have no clue what package file it's in? Look no further, TS4 Package Searcher will do the looking for you.

Basic Usage
  1. Simply launch the program and type (or paste) in the resource's Instance ID you are looking for. You can type the ID in either hexadecimal (e.g. 0xD279BD3BE12631C7) or as a plain decimal number (15166361285024952775).
  2. Click the Search button.
  3. Select the folder you wish to search in.
    • By default your Mods folder should be located on the first run.
    • If you search another folder (e.g. the game install folder) then that folder will be saved as the new default.
  4. Double-click a result to view that file in a new Windows Explorer file view.

Installation

You can download either a Windows Installer file (MSI) or just the EXE. In either case, you will need an archive program which can handle rar archives, for example WinRAR or 7-Zip.
  • Installer Method - After extracting the installer from the file you've downloaded, you can double-click the TS4 Package Searcher_v1.0 file to launch the installation which will place shortcuts into your start menu for the program as well as web links here and to Turbodriver's lastException Assistant.
  • EXE Only Method - You can place the TS4 Package Searcher.exe file you extracted from the download file into any convenient folder, onto a USB stick or even on your desktop, and double-click it to run the program.

Advanced Usage

You can perform an advanced search by clicking the plus sign to open the advanced search view (this setting will be saved). Once enabled, you can search for all files that contain a resource by the Instance ID, or by Type or Group. If you don't know what these are, stick with the basic search!

For instance, to find all STBL resources in all packages, click on the Type box and select 0x220557DA (STBL) from the drop down list. You can also type in the Type ID number manually.

Compatibility

Requires Windows 7 or above with .Net 4.5 or greater installed. Likely you already have this version of .Net if you have Windows 7 or higher.

Thanks
  • Turbodriver, for pushing me to write this utility that I've planned to write for so long and kept putting it off!

Hello There!! Hope all is well where you are and happy Sunday! I'll try not not to bug you for too long lol, but I have a bad piece of cc that I can't get out of the game. It started after the update for the speaker, the le's came so frequently it was filling up the notification in seconds and the game just froze. On Deaderpool's help discord we narrowed it down to a cc bed and i have literally taken them all out , did 50/50 and it's still saying the same thing.
I have used every number in the le in packager searcher and tried to see in s4pe if I could find it manually but no luck. My next thought is maybe a cc build with the furniture included is the issue. But I don't want to delete the whole tray any ideas would be awesome, but I do know after this, I'm sure I will know how to mod and read python haha!!

I've retested with a fresh download from MTS and it's showing clean for all virus scanners (68 of 69, including major ones such as Ad-Aware, ClamAV, ESET-NOD32, F-Prot, Kaspersky, Malwarebytes, McAfee, Microsoft, Symantec, TrendMicro and ZoneAlarm). The only positive is a tester called CrowdStrike Falcon which reports a malicious confidence of 60%.

Results are from VirusTotal.com. I suggest using this to test your copy of the file if you are unsure -- because if you're trusting the word of "Some guy on MTS" over your anti-virus program's results then you probably need your head examined

I'm not trusting the word of "Some guy on MTS," I had errors when I tried to download the file myself. It came up flagged for the virus I linked to. IIRC, somebody had issues with false positives and I thought it would be noteworthy to mention that it was still coming up with red flags. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Sadly, my virus scanner will simply not permit me to download the file.

I've added a version of the EXE-Only copy of the download which has been compiled with Visual Studio 2015 (instead of 2017). VirusTotal reports no false positives with this version, so possibly this download will work for those whose AV solutions are reporting a false positive for them.

Hey, I am having trouble, I put the number that I get from TURBO DRIVER, but it keeps saying that no file found. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated greatly.

I am also getting the same issue as mentioned by shorty776. I get a 5 or 6 digit number instead of a hexidecimal value, so when I put the number in the package searcher, nothing comes up. Is this a turbodriver issue?

Not necessarily, it could be the case that the last exception website is identifying a number that isn't an instance number and so should not be search-able, but it is also entirely possible that the error was caused by an object or tuning that is one from the game itself (and many of those ARE 4, 5 or 6 digit numbers).

I wish that I could, but I don't own a Mac. I've been told that I should start a Patreon donation site to save up for one, but I'm very hesitant to do so as there is a huge difference for me between doing something that I just want to do for fun with no strings attached, and doing something which would ordinarily be fun but that I feel I must do because people have given me money. Call me crazy for that, you won't be the first or last to do so!

Sorry my friend but this tool is not searching at all. not even your examples for in the description. is it compatible with Windows 10, because it sure doesn't find the least exception or any searches

It is working for me and I am on Windows 10.
Just an example: this is the identifier for BakieGaming's animated swimming alligator --> 9838248395941602840 and this is what I get when I look for it with the package searcher

The person posting above you will never find what they are looking for with this program because those are orginal identifiers. When a creator extracts a tuning into the mod they are making they should always rename it and get a new identifier for it like the one in my example above.

Just another example: if I open up S4S and I look for this identifier 139748 (one of those listed in the post above yours) this is what I get

The person above you is using a mod made (imo) by a bad creator, my bet would be a music career mod or something concerning music.

so, I downloaded all the files but nothing makes the program work, I have more than 20,000 mods, that was my last hope to make the game work again.
if anyone can find the mods these are the identifiers '36965' '25912' '166955' '27921' '26914' '136594' '30967' '26177' '26178' '202251'
