BodyShop Mechanic v .36B by Dr Pixel

Released March 14, 2009

Bodyshop Mechanic is Copyrighted 2006 - 2009 and is not to be distributed on other sites.

=========================
NEW! Added a Rename/Copy section to make it easy to handle your finished
Bodyshop package files.

NEW! Updated the Remove Projects section.

See the Help Manual for full details.
=========================

Bodyshop Mechanic works with any combination of expansions and stuff-packs.

This program is for Windows users only. No other files are necessary, if you can play The Sims2 game on your Windows computer, it should work for you.

It uses a standard Windows installer, and includes a complete Help manual.

BodyShop Mechanic is a simple program that gives you a little better control of the BodyShop program that comes with the Sims2 game, and lets you easily control many useful user-created Bodyshop enhancements.

It will NOT work with the pre-release version of BodyShop, only with the versions that are installed along with the game itself.

You can:

Choose the size of the BodyShop window (800 x 600 - or - 1024 x 768)

Get BodyShop to re-create it's thumbnails. This is useful if you have some bad thumbnails in BodyShop. This will not fix the bad thumbnails unless you have corrected the problem that caused them - most often this is a missing mesh file, or a flawed mesh edit.

Remove old BodyShop projects that are cluttering up the Projects list.
This will not harm your finished projects, once you have imported them into the game the project files are no longer needed and are wasting space and causing BodyShop to load slowly.

Remove any unwanted project folders - these are also not needed after you have imported them into the game.

Hide The SavedSims and/or the Downloads folders from Bodyshop.

Change the background picture/color used in BodyShop at any time.

For the background picture you can choose any bmp, jpg, or png image you have, of any size. You have the option to tile or resize the image to fill the whole Bodyshop window.

================================

You can also easily control several user-created Bodyshop add-ons:

You can change the lighting brightness using Wes Howe's enhanced lighting files.

You can change the default "hands on hips" mannequin pose to any one of many available user-created poses. There are instructions included for creating your own pose files if you like.

You can control Windkeeper's Bodyshop Enhancement files. These are the default screen replacements, the mannequin skintone replacements, and the invisible undies for skintone creators.

The help manual has complete instructions and download links for all these files.

========================

The "Run Bodyshop" button will start Bodyshop with the chosen settings.

You will still be able to change the background while BodyShop is running.

All other features can only be used when BodyShop is not running, and will be disabled while BodyShop is running.

===================================================

That's all there is for now, I hope you find it useful.

Dr Pixel,
I have enjoyed all your downloads! I loved the previous mechanic!

Allthough,
With this one I get a message that the .exe doesn't exist...
The Sims 2 Body Shop has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

It was working when I used the older one past week but I opened the old one today before the updated version and it didnt load...
If I delete the BS Mechanic and try to load from Start/Programs/M&G/ Bodyshop it still won't work...
Even if I use the Quicklaunch button it won't work

I Updated to this new one 12/31/08 and it still don't work...

I have everything to M&G anything you could tell me would be awesome!

Thanks! You Rock!
Happy New Year!

First, Bodyshop Mechanic doesn't really do anything to Bodyshop at all. Everything Bodyshop Mechanic does, (lights, background, poses, etc.) you could do yourself by copying and removing various files in and out of your Config\ folder, so it is perfectly safe to re-install it.

Anyway, on to the no-start problem. The message that Bodyshop had a problem and must quit means that you are trying to run the wrong version of Bodyshop. Every Expansion and every Stuff pack contains it's own version of Bodyshop and you must run the correct one or it won't work.

If you installed your Sims2 game and expansions to the default location look in this folder:

My Computer\C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\ you should see several folders. There will be one for the base game, plus one for every expansion pack and every stuff pack you have installed.

Now look inside the one that is named the same as the Disc that you must have in the drive in order to play the game.

Inside that folder will be several more folders. Look inside the one named CSBin\ You should find TS2Bodyshop.exe

Except in the case that you have purchased one or more expansions or stuff-packs that you installed by downloading them direct from EA, in other words you don't have a disc for them. In that case you should still look in the folder for the latest pack you are using, even if you have no disc and you should still find TS2Bodyshop.exe in the folder. This is the one you want to run. If it is not there, then maybe something went wrong during the installation.

Try running it right from there, by clicking on it. If it works, you have found the correct one.

If it still complains and quits, the easiest thing to do is this -

Start Bodyshop Mechanic and when it asks you to select an expansion, try a different one. It will show your selection on the title of it's window. It can't harm anything, at the very worst it will give that error message or else simply nothing will happen at all when you click the [Run Bodyshop] button. Either way, don't panic. Just click the small button at the top-left corner to get the expansion selection window again, and try the next most recent expansion or stuff pack. When you find the one that works, leave it set that way.

Please let me know what happens.

I'm having trouble getting this to run. I tried checking the help .html and it says there should be a window that shows all my expansion packs and yet I never saw it the first time I ran the application. It segways immediately into "cannot find bodyshop.exe". I've tried to get into the application and change it using the 'Setup' button on the toolbar but nothing happense.
Dunno what I did wrong.

The program first looks at the registry to see where you have installed the game. The problem here seems to be that it can't find the registry entry.
If it can't find any folders the window will not open since there is nothing to show.

What expansions and stuff packs do you have installed?

And were any of them installed without a disc - that is, through the direct download option on the EA site?

If this is a standard install (all from discs) I would try these things, in this order:

1} Shutdown and restart your computer and try the program again.

If that doesn't work -

2} Delete the entire Bodyshop Mechanic folder, then download it again and re-install it.

I have the same problem that "cannot find bodyshop.exe" and try the 2 ways. But nothing changed = =|..and when I clicked "Run bodyshop", just opened my original game installed folder(like this --> X:\The Sims 2).

Could it be set manually?

p.s.I have installed all expansions and stuff packs except celebration use the default folder name. And all of them were installed without disc.

The new version (.27b) will now ask you to manually set the game installation folder if it can't find it.

I have set it up to use Apartment Life, yet it still won't let me use the poses or change the background. Why is that?

I have Doubled Deluxe,Free Time,and Apartment Life.

Thank you for the updated version, DP!

However, I seem to have run across a glitch of sorts. I used this program to disable my Downloads folder and it seemed to be working fine. Unfortunately for me, a bad file in my SavedSims folder crashed Bodyshop, and when I returned to the mechanic's window, a blank pop-up box appeared that didn't go away no matter how many times I clicked on it.

I did find my way around it though, but I had to end Bodyshop Mechanic's task and go into my Sims 2 folder to restore the "Downloads_off" name back to "Downloads" manually in order to do so. When I started Bodyshop Mechanic back up, it started working like normal again.

Other than that, I haven't had any other problems with it, and all the new features are extremely useful. Great job once again!

Thanks for letting me know. This problem is corrected in version .28 which is available now.

Love the program. Enjoyed using it back when I was still creatin' stuff. Very handy.

I have had the same problem for several versions now...it seems that everytime I attempt to load a custom .bmp or .jpeg, I get a BSM crash. Everytime. All other featuers (I have several custom poses, the modelling hack available here is a great source for those, btw) work fine. Regardless of version of BSM, regardless of which version of BS I run (Mansions and Gardens, FYI), regardless of the size of the .bmp/.jpeg, regardless of which directory I put them in, I still get the same error.

Thanks!

Hi, Fionn.

Does this happen right away when you click on the Background Image button?

Or does it happen after you have chosen the image? At that time, the large image preview/options window would open.

Have you tried the most recent version - .28 ?

I optimized the large image preview window in this version, maybe it will help if it is the large window causing the crash.

Oh, also what version of Windows do you use?

Didn't think to give you the OS...Vista x64. As goofy as Vista is, that's prolly the problem.

Anyway...

It happens after the image has been selected. Still happens w/ version .28.

I just posted a v .29 which handles the images in a slightly different way. I hope this fixes the problem, but I really don't know since I don't have Vista to try it on and I can't duplicate the problem here so please let me know.

Also, if this doesn't help, you could try setting the program's compatability to Windows XP if Vista has that feature.

Hey...thank you so much for the replies and the revision.
It didn't solve my issue, unfortunately, but I'm very grateful for the effort.

I did try running in XP compatability mode, but it didn't help. I'm sure it is just some weird bug with my system.

At any rate...thanks again, and I'll continue to use the program a lot, even without the background feature. You da man.

The most recent one is .36b - I just downloaded it to check, and the download is the correct version.

When you open the .zip file, you should see:
Install Bodyshop Mechanic v36.exe
inside.

If not I would suggest downloading it again, there may have been a glitch becuase of the recent hard drive problems.
