This is a new mesh, and means that it's a brand new self contained object that usually does not require a specific Expansion pack (although this is possible depending on the type). It may have Recolours hosted on MTS - check below the description for more information.
This is a featured upload! It showcases the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
ARTEMIDE "CHIMERA" and "MEZZA CHIMERA"

The very first objects that contains custom light definitions!

"One of the most beautiful examples of the Italian Style: created by Artemide back in 1970, the "Chimera" and the "Mezza Chimera" (Half Chimera) were never discontinued, and still today they are a must-have piece of modern furniture!"

By Numenor - Do not clone - Visit www.numenor-moddings.com for full Copyright Policy and... *hint* ...donations :nod:

FEATURES
  • The lamp is provided in two sizes: the "Mezza Chimera" - smaller - is to be placed on tables (any height); the "Chimera" - taller - just sits on the ground.
  • The light intensity can be set to three different levels: Low, Medium and High (see operating instructions below)
  • The bulb colours can be set to eight (eight!) different colours, including the default White and a special, animated "Magic Light" (see operating instruction below)
  • Both lamps, and all their coloured custom light, work with any game configuration (non-NL users will particularly appreciate these lamps, I think, since these are the only non-NL lamps with multi-coloured light :D)
  • The Chimera lamps are NOT recolourable (the different textures and lights are applied via internal BHAV routines)
1 2 3

IN-GAME OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
The lamps can be operated like any other Maxis lamps: they can be set to On, Off and Auto-light; in addition - but only when the lamp is LIT - there are two more menu options: "Intensity" -> Low/Medium/High; and "Change Bulbs" -> (8 different colour options).
Mind that you can change the bulbs, but the external plexiglas part is always white (therefore, when the lamp is off, it will always be white; this is intentional: Artemide never produced this lamp in other colours).
Please note also that the current setting aren't visible in the menus: i.e., if the lamp is lit you won't find the option "Turn on / This Light" (you'll find only "Turn on / This Room" and ".../All lights); if the bulbs are red you won't find the "Red" option; if the Intensity is set to medium, you won't find the "Medium" option.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
The basic installation requires downloading and installing only the "Artemide_Chimera_lamps.zip": install it just like any other object (extract the two .package files from the zip archive and put both of them into your Downloads folder). Then, read the following important paragraph.

KNOWN BUG (Nightlife only!) and WORKAROUND
Almost all Maxis lights definitions are placed outside the object package, and are contained in several text files located in a specific folder in the game installation dir; only few Maxis objects, and now these lamps contain the light definitions inside the package itself.
There is a known bug that affects all the objects of this last type (including the Maxis ones): with Nightlife, exiting and re-entering the lot prevents the light to be reflected by walls and floor ; only the objects will reflect the light. Technically speaking, the "diffusion light" stops working, while the "direct light" is not affected.
The only WORKAROUND for this problem is to install a small text file, containing the light definitions, in the proper game installation dir. Here is how to do that:
  1. Be sure to have installed the SCRIPTORIUM .
  2. Download the attached "Chimera_Light_Definitions.zip" and extract the file contained within (it is called "numenor_chimera_light.nlo", it's a plaint text file).
  3. Put the .nlo file in the folder "Scriptorium_CustomLights", easily accessible from the shortcut in your Downloads.

No, this won't work. If you haven't a "CEP3_CustomLights" folder inside "Lights", then you have an older version of the CEP (or you haven't the CEP at all). Download and install the latest CEP v.3.3. (LINK)

Probably the explanations given by the other users are enough, but in case, I'll explain in detail.
Open "My Computer", double-click on the main hard drive (usually C: ).
Inside C:, go to Program Files -> EA Games -> The Sims 2 -> TSData -> Res -> Lights -> CEP3_CustomLights.
Please note that you may find a "The Sims 2 University" or a "The Sims 2 Nightlife", but you don't have to enter them: the folder you need is simply "The Sims 2".

Now this is getting confusing!

So if i want this light, its shall be placed in like this:

C:\'Program Files' -> EA Games -> The Sims 2 -> TSData -> Res -> Lights

But i don´t have a EA Games folder in "Program Files"! But i can find it here:

C:\'Program' -> EA Games -> The Sims 2 -> TSData -> Res -> Lights

And the light should be placed in the "Light" folder right? I am a confused Newbie :bandit:

P. Diddy, it is ok the way you have it, with the Program folder instead of Program Files folder.
Now, if you have the right version of CEP, you should have a 'CEP3_CustomLights' folder inside the 'Lights' folder (wow, that's a lot of folders! :D).

Numenor and Mary Lou, you guys did a grand job!
Siete stati bravissimi, geniali, grandi!! :clap: La cosa mi riempie di orgoglio!! :D

Thank you!!

This is once again an awesome and simply wonderful work of you!
It must have taken a long time to make this.
I'm just a beginner in creating new objects and would be glad if I'll at least get managed a light to shine in another way then the original one... I think even if I read a hundred and more tutorials I'll never be able to make anything that could keep up with your creations.
So I hope you'll bring us many more great objects in the future

Regards, Trinity

No if you put thE .nlo file in "Lights" it doesn't work.
You put it in CEP3_CustomLights
Example
C:\'Program' -> EA Games -> The Sims 2 -> TSData -> Res -> Lights -> CEP3_CustomLights

If you can't find it, probably you have an older version of the CEP: install the newest version.

Exquisite! Any chance that Artemide's Logico Suspention Triple Linear lamp is in the offing? It's too beautiful for words!

Nope... Only the Chimera lights have a variable intensity. In order to do what you ask, you need a "Global Hack", which should be done by people more experienced than me with BHAV modding (they are risky, because they affect the whole game).

Preferences noted. But, as you might have guessed looking at my creations, I usually don't create an object only because it is beautiful, but rather when I discover a new way of modding, a new feature, that no one else has invented before.
Who knows? Maybe I'll make more Artemide lamps... I love them all, too! I started with the Chimera because I have it for real in my house: it was bought by my mother when I was a child, and now that I'm married and have my own home, it is still fascinating!

I've finally started my Journal. Information only, no questions.

hmmmm a new feature... you could make the tolomeos animated so our sims could change the height! but I think people have done that before...

by the way, I had my real-life tolomeo mega delivered just 10 minutes ago...
