Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
I was alerted to an issue that seems to make this career overwrite part of the science career. When I first made this career I didn't realize what I had to do about languages other than English. I used the science career as a base and so each language other than English has science descriptions, chance cards, etc. I have fixed this, so that now the English version of the magic career text shows up for all the languages. My apologies to all the people out there who play the game in other languages. To get the corrected language version, download the file below called Magic Career (Fixed Languages). There are two packages in it, one for the version with custom uniforms, and one for the version without custom uniforms. Replace your current version of the career with the new one. If you are downloading for the first time, ignore the career in the main .rar (you can delete it) and use the appropriate one in the "fixed languages" .rar.

Here is my version of a wizard career. It is based on the magic-user class from Dungeons & Dragons. Way back in the first edition, circa 1978. Most of my Sims are based on my old D&D characters so it has been difficult for me sometimes to find them jobs that really fit them. I began thinking about custom careers and I remembered that way back then the classes in D&D had titles for each level. I thought that those would make pretty decent job titles for a career in The Sims 2, so I began fleshing them out. This is the first career based a Dungeons & Dragons class. I plan to do more. My major snag was appropriate carpools. Since my career was medieval fantasy in nature, it really didn't make sense for a hatchback or limo to come as a carpool. I secured permission from Hexameter for the use of his great horse and wagon/carriage vehicles as carpools. I, in my ignorance, thought that it was as easy as assigning the GUID for one of those vehicles as the carpool in the career. As it turns out it is far more complicated than that. All of the credit for the custom carpool goes to Hexameter. The best my efforts could come up with was getting the carriage to come as the carpool and stop in front of the house. The second anyone queued up the "Go to Work" action, the carpool disappeared. Hexameter and I talked back and forth about how to make it work until he looked at my package and redid it for me. Actually, he started from scratch, even giving the carpool custom sound. I can't thank him enough for what he's done. It just goes to show how great the people around here on MTS2 are. Here is a link to his original vehicle that the carpool vehicle is based on for information pertaining to his mesh:
http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=129461

Anyway, here are the details of the career:

-- Custom icons
-- Complete chance cards
-- EP ready (University is required only for the career reward, your Sim doesn't have to graduate college to be employed in this career.)
-- Available with or without custom uniforms since I had to base my uniforms on outfits from several different EPs and SPs
-- Career reward is the Resurrect-O-Nomitron with a different description and name, but it shows up as a separate entry in the career rewards with my icon
-- Doesn't overwrite any career that I know of
-- And, of course, the previously mentioned custom carpool

I now have a Magic Career for Pets if you'd like your wizard to have a familiar. It can be found here: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=236417

MyshunoGuy has made a major tailored to this career. It can be found here:
http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=258194

Levels:
1. Prestidigitator $300
2. Evoker $468
3. Conjurer $523
4. Thaumaturgist $622
5. Magician $712
6. Enchanter/Enchantress $879
7. Warlock/Witch $1047
8. Sorcerer/Sorceress $1296
9. Necromancer $1752
10. Wizard $2515

Requirements for the top level are 10 points of cooking, 10 points of Logic, 10 points of creativity, and 6 family friends

There are ten files in the Magic Career.rar: the career, the career reward, the carpool, a sound package for the carpool, four career outfits, and two clothing files that tell the career to use the custom outfits. All the files must be placed in the downloads directory for the career to work properly. The .rar without the custom uniforms of course only has the first four files in it.

I had a little fun with the chance cards and tried to base all of them on wizards from movies and/or books. Only one of them is completely made up. Sadly enough, I couldn't think of ten different ones that I was familiar enough with to write about. Can anyone identify the situations from all the cards and tell which one I completely made up? Here's your only hint: since my career was medieval in nature, I tried to avoid modern day wizards like Harry Potter, so there's nothing from that.

Here's a screenshot of Seasons' Priya Ramaswami as she goes to work in her new career in the field of magic:

A note about the custom uniforms, I looked all through the outfits trying to find some that looked sufficiently wizard-like to recolor into wizard robes and it was hard to find Maxis outfits that worked. In the end, I had to settle on recoloring the Nightlife vampiress dress, the Holiday Stuff Santa robe, a dress that I think also came from the Holiday Stuff Pack, and a long coat that came from Glamour Life Stuff, so, of course, these will be required for the uniforms to be there. However, I know that many people will not have all of these, so I'm also putting up a version where your Sim will go to work in their everyday outfit in place of all of those, so you can dress them however you like for work. Also, I wasn't completely happy with an otherwise thin Sim putting on weight when he dresses in his wizard robe (the one based on the Santa robe) but with my present skill level there was nothing I could really do about it.

For the career and uniforms:
Please use these or modify these as you will, but please do not upload to any paysite (even if it's free on the paysite) and please give me credit.

For permissions pertaining to the carpool and its associated sound files, you would have to contact hexameter.

Replacing a Maxis career simply requires that none of the GUIDs, GroupIDs etc are changed - but I don't know how easy it is to reverse engineer that.

What I lack in decorum, I make up for with an absence of tact.

The template I use for my careers is the science career and until I follow the steps in Superfly's tutorial about fixing careers it overwrites that career. I could try using a different career and not fixing it. I'll see what I can come up with.

Feel free to PM me with career requests. I don't guarantee I'll do any particular one, but I'll consider each.

This is so awesome! Thanks especially for making a version without the custom clothing, I don't have glamour stuff and it would have been really disappointing to miss out on this because of that! Thanks again!

I try to make my careers available to the most people possible, so I didn't want to require such a large number of expansion/stuff packs. But it was difficult to find wizard-like outfits in just the basegame, so I did the version without custom uniforms as a compromise. I'm glad it worked out for you.

Hey! nice job you have done. I realy like this career.

But I have some bug(or something like it). Wiz Career doesn't ovewrite science career - it's true. But it does overwrite icons, clothing, sounds and carpool for scientist >< .
So, sim actualy haves and goes to a sci-career(names of each career-step and chance cards are from there) but it looks like he is a wizard ><

PS. I'll post screen later.

I think it's a language issue. This was the second career I ever made and I made it before I knew some of the things I know now. So I used the science career as a base and changed it. But I only changed the English text. For every other language the science descriptions and chance cards remained unchanged. I wasn't thinking and now I do it differently. So I think what it is is that the magic career appears to be a science career with different clothing, carpools, etc. Sorry for the inconvenience. When I get a few minutes I'll fix it and reupload. Of course, the only language will still be English, but the English text will appear for every language.

FennShysa, thanks for quick responce
It's no problem to have some English text in game - the main thing it's career it self

I didn't realize what I was doing language-wise until the third career I made. I need to go back and fix my first one (the Espionage career) too.

This is one of my all time favourite careers (for my Sims, that is LOL)! I'm in the process of removing and re-uploading my game to start over fresh and I hunted this one up specifically because it was one thing that I HAD to have again. Thank you so much for the wonderful creation. I couldn't love the custom car pool more, it's just brilliant. ;-)

Thank you both very much, but I can't take credit for the carpool. All I did was take hexameter's fine work and convert it to a carpool. He did the vast majority of the work on that.

Wait...I am confused lol. Sorry but...Which one do I 'have' to download?

I have all EP's and SP's, and I want the clothing, and everything with the career, and I don't care about the language, I just want English. But...I really don't want a override of the science career. Or is that all fixed?

Otherwise I love it! and I can't wait to have it.

Okay, since you have listed your location as USA, I'm assuming that English is the language your game is in. You can use either the main Magic Career.rar or the Magic Career (Fixed Languages).rar. If you played in another language, what was happening originally (what I fixed in the "fixed languages" version) was that I used the science career as a base and the only text I changed was English. So if you played in another language it appeared that you had two science careers. One was the original science career, and one was my career with all the features of my career except that it had the science text.

I tried the No custom clothing one (as I have only university and nightlife exps) and it crashes my game right at the loading screen. Bummer. I would have liked to play this one a lot :P

If anyone is interested in finding out why and can fix it I would love to try this again...

Sorry your game is crashing. I don't know why that would happen. Could it be a conflict with something else you've downloaded. Try with the career (and its carpools, etc.) as your only custom content and see if it still crashes. If it doesn't then it seems like it's a conflict. I tested it in my game and it didn't crash it (of course, I have a different set of EPs than you).
