This is a mod I made in response to a request from Inge Jones back in September...although now that I go look at the original request, it doesn't seem that I've addressed all the issues. :sorry: I'll look again and see if I can come up with something different.

The request was "Is there any chance you can make the garden ponds reflective and not so transparent so you can see plants and lights reflected in them? They shouldn't have that eerie blue glow night and day". Unfortunately I forgot what was said and it came to my memory as "Fix the purple-blue" color of pond water. Ah well. After four days of non-stop work to finish this, I'm going to go ahead and post what I have.

At any rate, I've made several different pond water colors for you if you're interested. Check out the attached screenshots to see the available colors.

You can only have one water color for the game at a time, therefore I've kept all of the file names exactly the same. To distinguish between each (so you know what color you're using), I've archived each color separately and named the archive the appropriate name (for example: "" contains the aquamarine colored water). The attached downloads each contain 7 separate archives inside them. The idea is to extract them somewhere, then extract the color you want to use. When you want to change colors, simply extract a different archive and overwrite the existing file.

Important Note
Due to the way lot water is displayed, and my non-expertise at doing this, only the Ice color will display properly when in Neighborhood View. All colors display properly when you're in Live Mode, but the other colors appear black in the N-Hood View. Currently, there is no way for me to fix or change this.

Also, there was no way for me to change the fact that pond water seems to have its own light source at night. Lot water is not rendered with standard lighting, and therefore doesn't get dark when 7 o'clock rolls around. Again, there's nothing I can do about this. I believe that if it was possible and didn't consume too much computing-power, Maxis would have made it work the "correct" way. That being said, at night these colors at least do not appear to "glow a radioactive purple-blue".

If for any reason (perhaps a very old video card) the water does not display properly in Live Mode, simply delete the file from your Downloads directory and the default water color will be restored.

Edit: Just wanted to mention that the Neighborhood Imposters (N-Hood images) are only updated when you make and save changes to a lot. So if you change your lot water and are wondering why the Neighborhood view is the same, that's why.

For my crave and lust for blood, I surely want a blood-red pond! Also, a black lake or pond is also good...

Beware! I'm transforming into a V... lol...

Thanks for sharing this, I can have more colours choices...

Default re:
My card's an NVidia Riva TNT2 Pro. I'm not sure how old it is, but I'll see if these mods can fool it. I'm trying to do a park scene where two women are attacked by a werewolf. The scene is hard enough to do as-is, with the trees consuming so much of the CPU that the animations get maybe 4 frames per second and the camera barely works.

Candi is trying to get out her quantum pack so she can at least get her Ciem mask on to fight Lobe, but Lobe knocks it out of her hand. (Lobe is Arfaas' way of keeping Candi distracted, so she can't possibly make it to Souplind-Tinsel headquarters in time to save Donte from Milp.)

Now, what I want him to be able to do is chuck the quantum pack into the river, where it flows downstream and is not re-discovered for quite some time.

There is a debate when Lobe is defeated anyway between Candi and Dolly about whether or not they should kill him or just leave him for the sheriff. (He almost kills Dolly.)

Donte goes hiking years later and finds it downstream by coincidense, in-tact. He then makes improvements to the design's functions and many years down the road, has his daughter Dana become the new Ciem based on this beta design.

This would force Candi to use the Ciem 1 costume for her final showdown with Milp, which is part of the themes analysis set up for Ciem 2. The Ciem 2 suit is trashed in a battle shortly after the defeat of Captain Aardwulf. Candi then takes a break from being Ciem because of a pregnancy.

However, if I can't fool my video card with this mod, then I'll have it that Lobe eats the quantum pack, but activates its force-thrust remove-suit-from-quantum-storage feature by chewing on it. In so doing, it forcefully blows the Ciem suit into his stomach, rupturing it.

This would allow Candi to easily win the debate with Dolly by saying: "I didn't kill him; he ate himself to death with his stupidity." But it would also be lame in that the fight scene would be shortened and pointless.

There is NO WAY I'm going to pretend that the red pond is a "lavaflow," since it doesn't match the geography of the region.

So here's hoping the mod works for RIVA TNT2 Pro, so I don't get stuck with a lame fight scene.

Also, the scene in Cursed is the Ground where Trisha finally defies Meshaluta and her past's rule over her life by taking her size B toy rocket engine necklace and pouring the gunpowder into a pond that she then uses to baptize herself with needs somewhat real water. A red pond won't work.

I doubt it'll help with the exorcising of Meshaluta from Trisha's arm. That might take special new animations. (The ghost-hag detests the sacrament because of its meaning, and since she takes fright of gunpowder, the use of gunpowder-water adds insult to injury. Once Trisha does this, she no longer needs the necklace to feel safe.)

But I'll address one issue at a time.

I had that same card before I got NL, so I know your woes of having red ponds! I only upgraded to a NVidia GeForce 4, (15 bucks on eBay! yeah!) and now my game is super fast (no lag at all) and the colors blow my mind. (Hey, I'm easily impressed, what can I say?)
If you can find a video card that is even just one notch above what you have now, you may be able to get rid of that red water issue. Otherwise, here's also hoping that this awesome mod will give you some other colors in your game! :D

Problem is, I'd have to upgrade my power supply to support it. I can only support 188 Watts and I'd need 300 Watts to get decent card performance. I'd want 500 Watts to be safe, but those run for 70 bucks! And I'm not much of one for installing entire power supplies. I'd just like to be rid of the lag, but with only an 805 MHz processor, I don't feel that will be easy. I only have 384 MB of RAM to throw around, and my Virtual Page File is enormous.

Plus, it wouldn't help me much right now. In the future, when I go back to occassional playing just for the fun of playing, I could consider getting Nightlife plus the hardware upgrades. Until then, I'm stuck with University. Getting the upgrades now wouldn't do me much good. Ciem 3 is much shorter than Ciem 2 and is a few scenes short of post-production.

Upgrades would work nice for doing screenshot work for my Meshalutian Trilogy behind the scenes stuff. But it won't help make Ciem any better. For now, that's what these mods are for...fooling my card so I don't have to work as hard in Photoshop.

I finally managed to make a reflective pond, by using a rug with a mirror material on it. Trouble is, it didn't exactly reflect the sky and the tree by it, it reflected a sort of weird kaleidoscope of all the things on the lot. It still looked better than the water Maxis gave us for ponds though, as it did glimmer a bit, if you could turn a blind eye to the fact it wasn't the right image being reflected.

One thing that was interesting it it wouldn't reflect at all until you bought a mirror and put it on the lot, and then what you could see in that mirror was added each time to the kaleidoscope in the pond. One time I had my sims woohooing in the pond - or at least a highly fragmented image of them.
