I'm very glad this was figured out! I didn't want to edit every house to have a snow terrain and plus it looked a little strange with the houses having snow but then suddenly have grass beside it.

Great beginning, but like the other user above when you figure out how to affect just one neighbourhood and not all of the ones with grass please let me know as well. I would like to have a winter neighbourhood, but I also want temperate ones (palm trees look odd in snow and I have a lot of lots with those on them).

I have a question, I *never* use the desert terrain, is there a way you could make one to override the desert one? or if you could let me know what i need to go to in SimPE i could do it
thanks

I was going to edit the destert terrain, but i decided not to, becasue if your normally have grass, then use the cheat to make it dessert, the neighborhood changes and all, but in my test, the lots were still grass... So yeah it was kind of a bummer. And for making a *new* terrain type, its not possible, unless of course, I was to change a few things in the exe itself, which im not about to do. It will just have to overide a default until you remove it.

You can, if you want, make it overide the destert instead, by opening Textures.package in the Sims3D (base game folders), once inside, look for every desert terrain you see (some can be ommited though, if you know what to look for) and then edit all those images to snow ones.

Hey, now this Mod really works out great! All this needs now is a companion mod that recolors the nighborhood tree objects with snow cover. In addition I agree with hrussio's observation about using an alternate terrain..

What about Dirt Terrain? Did you experiment any with it? If any Terrain should be replaced, I think dirt would be the most appropriate.. I never understood why that terrain was added, when snow would have been the one in greatest demand.

I love the idea too.. but Im not prepared to give up my grassy neighborhoods that Ive worked so hard on either. Im with hrussio on this one.. if it is possible to overwrite the dessert terrain, then I could keep my lush neighborhood and make a new one with the overwrite.

thats not that bad of a problem though, because we can always change the lot terrain with a snow terrain while we are on the lot

I will take a look in SimPE though, thanks

I was just thinking that this was not a possibility because no one here had done it yet! But you did!!!! Thank you so much. I really wanted a snowy terrain for the winter because I live in California and snow is really, really rare here but now I can have it thru my simmies!

Metroid Menace could you please contact me via pm and explain to me how to do this, and I could maybe try to work on it and make it where it doesn't overwrite anything?
Thank you,

I still dont see what's wrong with losing the grass terrain O_o; Like, you don't PERMANENTLY lose it, it's like actual snow fell on the grown and it stays until winters over (you can decide when that is by moving the hack out, then everything will be luciously green again). The thing I dont understand about the whole wanting to keep grass thing but also wanting snow, is how would you use them both at once? You cant, its either one or the other, cause if you just want an individual house to be snowy and the rest grassy then thats pretty easy to acompish without this hack (terrain paint).

The problem with overiding the dirt or concrete is that this mod would become a Nightlife compatable only, as right now its compatable with all.

And about making this just one file... well that is very simple. You just throw everything into one file!

And again folks, when your tired of snow and want grass again, just move the hack out of the download folder, and viola, grass is instantly back, no hastles or anything.

I find that people complain simply because if they are given the opportunity, they will. You were wonderful enough to figure out how to give us our snowy neighborhoods. Don't let it bother ya much.

Thank you very much Metroid Menace!

You did it exactly as it should be - a small single file that allows you to temporary change the green terrain into this cozy white... It's perfect for the Christmas Time and it's outstanding!
