Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
Update on Feb 28th 2006: I have added the missing diagonal version to the mesh package, please redownload the file called MatchingCornerstoneCurtainsMesh.zip and replace the previous straight version with the new one for the diagonal to work correctly.

As requested by MaggieBite, here's a modified version of the Cornerstone Victoriana Velvet Drapes that will match any bedding you have in your game (either Maxis or custom). It's a completely separate object from the Maxis curtain with its own GUID, and should not override the original. The fabric part of the curtain borrows its texture from any bedding you have in your downloads folder, while the metal/tassel parts of the curtain can be recolored separately (to recolor the fabric, you have to make a recolor of the Colonial Ironwood Bed bedding). There is also a silver recolor of the metal/ tassel parts of the curtain that can be downloaded separately.

Catalog section: Decorative/ Curtain
Polygons/ vertices: 1362 polygons/ 1452 vertices (same as the Maxis original)

Redistribution: You can freely share the meshes along with recolors you make as long as the mesh file stays free to download at all times, and you post a link to this thread. The curtains can be freely included in (free) lot downloads.

File/mesh names:
HS_MatchingCornerstoneCurtainsMesh.package
HS_MatchingCornerstoneCurtainsMeshDiagonal.package
HS_MatchingCornerstoneCurtainsSilver.package (recolor of the metal/tassel parts)

Credit to:
Maxis for the mesh

(The screenshots are only examples of what different bedding textures look like on the curtain, but your options are not limited to the options in the pictures.)

The white bed frame recolor by urshekke can be downloaded here.

You must have the expansion or stuff packs listed below installed to use this custom content. Please see the post text for any exceptions.

This is fantastic. I too love stuff like this. It's so hard finding curtains to match certain bedding. This will be great for making the best bedroom sets, and will add more variety for the other rooms in the house as well. Thank you!

This is wonderful and such a great idea!! Thank you so much!!

Question, though.. What sections of the bedding texture will the curtain take? I ask 'coz it may change the way I make my beddings Thanks again and terrific job!!!!

It uses a part of the left border of the bedding texture (excluding the top part with the lining). I can send you a UV-map if you need it .

What a fantastic idea! Thank you so much!

Do you think it would be possible to apply the same thing to the maxis bedside table that uses a piece of fabric in the door? Just an idea if you have the time and inclination - I'm thrilled to bits with the curtains.

Thanks Helena - I love your ingenuity.

I'd like the UV map as well

Rascal, I'll take a look at how that end table mesh looks like and see if I could do that

Lyran and Kiri, I will email you the uv-map later today when I'm home at my own computer .

Genius!

maxis seems to miss the boat on making stuff match! (The million different wood shades spring to mind) Good to know there's modders who want to sort that out!

Thanks

Wonderful, thank you =)

In case you have nothing else to do on a long winter night some day ... here's some more objects that could use texture swapping/borrowing:

Couch/Recliner; curtains; bedding -> dining chair seat
Couch/Recliner -> curtains
Bedding -> Couch/Recliner
Couch/Recliner -> Armchair
Curtains; bedding -> lamp shade? (probably difficult/impossible since it has two states)
Curtains; bedding -> tablecloth (the Maxis NL tables)

And, yes, wood. Totally. That would be so much better than having a gazillion almost-matching downloads ...

Thanks for the idea, I may give some of these a try . The lamp shade might be possible as well, never tried to make a lamp borrow its texture from another object, though.
