Hello everyone. Here comes another terrain mod I created.

This mod changes the appearance of all roads in your desert neighbourhoods. The roads will look different in the neighbourhood view and also outside your property when you enter a house. This affects on ALL neighbourhoods which use the standard desert terrain. That means that even neighbourhoods you created before downloading this mod will look different. If you want the old roads back, just delete the .package-file [DesertDustRoad.package] from your downloads folder and the usual asphalt roads will show up again.

This mod only automatically changes the road textures outside your properties. The road in front of your house will still have the usual asphalt texture. Therefore I made some matching floors which you can simple draw over the street. You have to enter the “moveobjects on”-cheat. (To open the cheat-window press the Ctrl-, Shift- and C- key simultaneously.)

I have tested this mod intensively and it works just fine with my game. However I am not responsible for any damage this mod could do to your game or computer.

Known problems

1. Driveways:
In some cases the driveways can’t be placed correctly, if the street-floors in front of the house are replaced. This depends on the orientation of the lot in the neighbourhood. In half of the cases the driveway flips 90°. Either place the driveway first and replace the street-floor afterwards or do not replace the outside floor-tiles of the rearward sidewalk.

2. Seasons:
The streets are not snow-covered during winter in the neighbourhood. (But they are snow-covered when you play on a lot. It’s only a neighbourhood problem).

Do not use this mod, if you already have another mod that changes the appearance of the roads or the landscape of the desert-terrain (e.g. snow-terrains). You have to delete the other mod before using this one.

This mod was inspired by the work of QwinsepiaSquared.

I have all big add-ons installed (including seasons) but no mini add-ons. However this terrain-mod should work with the basic game and any add-on combination. If not, please let me know.

I think this is great! It'll make the desert neighborhoods look better, IMO. Thanks!

Very nice! I would love to see roads that are asphalt but without the lines down the middle. Country highways rather than those city roads..without sidewalks.

Awesome! Can anyone confirm these work with the base game? (I'm going to try them out anyway, they're exactly what I need. Thanks!)

This is awesome! Do you just put it in your downloads folder like anything else?

It should already work with only the base game installed.

Yes, put it simply into your downloads folder. You don't have to do anything else.

GREAT! Now my home neighborhood will look more my REAL home neighborhood. Some of us live "way back over yonder" you know.

I second that request about country highway roads without center lines.

Could somebody do this with grass themes and snow themes please?

Very nicely done. Do you think these mods will be a problem when ep5-'Seasons' comes out (end of this month) as this will change the appearence of the neigbourhood & lots? Any way thanks & downloading.

I don't know, if there may be problems with the "seasons"-expansion pack. That depends on EA and how they realised the changes in the appearence of the neighbourhood with the changing seasons.
I guess, they will use overlay-txtures and these shouldn't be any problem for my mod. But I can't tell, till Seasons is out.

I just tried it with Seasons, and it seems to be working fine, though I did try it during summer, the dry months.
Thanks so much for this! Looks great!

that's really cool. that's just the way roads in the desert have to look! thank you!
may I suggest some improvement? Just omit the sidewalk, that would make it look even better I think.

I've used your 'dirt' road/terrain & cobblestone-street replacements for a long time & now that macarossi has blessed us with more desert plants, I decided it was time to grab this too...I have an urge to start a desert 'hood again lol! Thanks for all

I have Apartment Life and this is working, just cover the asphalt road with Desertdustroad and use moveobjects, the problem is when a family move to the apartment the road will back to asphalt.

Like Mortimer above me, my roads reverted too.

The game actually crashed upon moving the first family in to my brand new mobile homes apartment lot and when I revisited the lot the family was there just fine and then I noticed that the roads had reverted. I come to the conclusion that the game hiccuped on the desert roads whilst moving the family in. The move-in video where the taxi drops them off just stopped dead in it's tracks so-to-speak.

Has anyone else had this problem?

This is GREAT!

Strangetown is supposed to be a small desert community-- They have old GOVERNMENT FACILITY BUILDINGS for COMMUNITY LOTS, for goodness sake-- why do they have neat, tidy, asphalt roads?
