Hello everyone. Here comes another terrain mod I created.

This mod changes the appearance of all roads in your grass neighbourhoods. The roads will look different in the neighbourhood view and also outside your property when you enter a house. This affects on ALL neighbourhoods which use the standard desert terrain. That means that even neighbourhoods you created before downloading this mod will look different.

This mod only automatically changes the road textures outside your properties. The road in front of your house will still have the usual asphalt texture. Therefore I made some matching floors which you can simple draw over the street. You have to enter the “moveobjects on”-cheat. (To open the cheat-window press the Ctrl-, Shift- and C- key simultaneously.)

There are two versions of this mod:

1st. MTS_ViktorianStreet-Grass-Replacement
This one is the mod described above. It only replaces the road textures. The .rar-file includes everything you need: The mod itself and six matching floors. This mod works with only the base game and any add-on combination.

If you want the old roads back, just delete the .package-file [ViktorianStreet-Grass-Replacement.package] from your downloads folder and the usual asphalt roads will show up again.

2nd. MTS_VictorianStreets(grass)-dirt-replacement.rar
This mod is nearly the same as the on discribed above, but this one replaces the dirt-terrain. The .rar-file includes the mod itself, six matching floors and a ground cover. You will need the Nightlife expansion for this 2nd version to work. The dirt-neighbourhoods will look like grass-neighbourhoods with victorian cobble streets. This way you can have grass neighbourhoods with asphalt roads and grass neighbourhoods with victorian cobble streets (but no dirt neighbourhoods anymore!).

If you want the old roads and the dirt neighbourhoods back, just delete the .package-file [victorianStreets(grass)-dirt-replacement.package] from your downloads folder and the usual asphalt roads and the dirt will show up again.

You can use both versions of this mod at the same time as they replace different files (although it doesn’t make much sense using both versions at once, in my opinion).

Do not use this mod, if you already have another mod that changes the appearance of the roads or the landscape of the grass- and/or dirt-terrain (e.g. snow-terrains, my country roads). You have to delete the other mod before using this one.

I have tested this mod intensively and it works just fine with my game. However I am not responsible for any damage this mod could do to your game or computer.

Known problems

1. Driveways:
In some cases the driveways can’t be placed correctly, if the street-floors in front of the house are replaced. This depends on the orientation of the lot in the neighbourhood. In half of the cases the driveway flips 90°. Either place the driveway first and replace the street-floor afterwards or do not replace the outside floor-tiles of the rearward sidewalk.

2. Seasons:
The streets are not snow-covered during winter in the neighbourhood. (But they are snow-covered when you play on a lot. It’s only a neighbourhood problem).

3. Dirt Replacement:
There are some small differences between the original grass-terrain and the one I made and that replaces the dirt-terrain. They are most obvious on the lot itself. The ground-texture is kind of blurry, but I couldn’t find a solution for this problem. The grass and dirt terrain seem to use a different number of textures and the texture size differs, too (dirt texture don’t have to be what detailed). Therefore I made a ground cover that looks like the grass in the grass-neighbourhoods. Spray it on the lot and the ground won’t look blurred anymore.

This mod was inspired by the work of QwinsepiaSquared .

YAY since I dont play in a dirt neighborhood I could now use this without worrying bout changing every grass neighborhood in my game.

I agree with Tommynator, maybe the dirt road one or something could replace ones rarely used instead of the grass.

Very nice!

The neighborhood roads doesn't have snow on them during the winter anyways.

One of my neighborhoods has winter all "year" long and there's only been snow on the grass area of the neighborhood, never the roads.

I know. But in my opinion it is much more obvious with my mod, than with the original roads. Therefore I mentioned it.

For some reason, my computer won't let me extract the file.
It's a great idea and I'm sure I would have loved it

Hi! .rar-files work on a mac, too. But you will need a plugin. Google for "rar+mac" and you will get plenty of results.

Thanks! Just what I needed. The dirt replacement is such a good idea. Now I don't have to change the other 'hoods as well.

Thanks! This is wonderful, but I have a question. I have already made a victorian neighborhood. If I use a cheat to switch to the desert terrain using a cheat, having the desert replacement installed, with the terrain switch to the victorian roads? I was wondering this because I tried this, but I was apparently installing it improperly or something because it switch to the desert terrain. Thanks!

Ehm...where is no desert-replacement for the victorian roads. There is a grass version, that replaces the normal green grass (only the street textures ther) and a dirt replacement (the greenish brown grass from Nightlife).
By the way, using the cheat, that changes the terain, doesn't change the street texture itself. So using this cheat, you cannot chang the roads.
