Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
For everyone who always wanted to build nice little houses for/with just the base game, here's a few templates for you to work with.

They are available in two directions, North and South, in case anyone else cares about consistent lighting -- in the "South" ones, the sun comes from the back left corner of the lot, in the "North" ones from front right. These are the two directions that allow for 90° rotated driveways. Note that the direction of the sun in neighbourhood view is 180° from that in lot view .. this is an old maxis bug, I can't do anything about that.

Playtested for missing portals etc, everything worked fine. These are based on the 2x1 lot available in the LotExpander thread, and on the 2x2 lot by Numenor that comes with the BaseGameStarter.

For other sizes, namely 1xN and Nx1, see here (Mini lots by MaryLou) and here (Lot Expander).

(Btw I have no idea why the North and South versions are so different in size, or why an empty lot has to have 700+k to begin with .. there's only empty walls on the lots, nothing else (I put them there so that you can see the size/sun direction at one glance).)

Lot Size: 2x2
Lot Price: N/A

You must have the expansion or stuff packs listed below installed to use this custom content. Please see the post text for any exceptions.

Basic Download and Install Instructions:

1. Download: Click the download link to save the .rar or .zip file(s) to your computer.

2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file.

3. Install: Double-click on the .sims2pack file to install its contents to your game. The files will automatically be installed to the proper location(s).
  • You may want to use the Sims2Pack Clean Installer instead of the game's installer, which will let you install sims and pets which may otherwise give errors about needing expansion packs. It also lets you choose what included content to install. Do NOT use Clean Installer to get around this error with lots and houses as that can cause your game to crash when attempting to use that lot. Get S2PCI here: Clean Installer Official Site.

Very handy...so can we expect more cute little starters on these lots soon? Wink, wink, nudge, nudge...

Eh, at my current pace, "soon" would be sometime in 2013 .. but yes, that's what I made those templates for =).

So when I package them, they will only require basegame? O.o

Thanks Pb, even if I don't understand this concept. :p

poplers, it depends on what game you're using (see here). The point of this upload is simply to make 2xN available for the base game, it has nothing to do with how you package your lots.

I recommend the BaseGameStarter, if your goal is maximum compatibility. See link in OP.

That's a great addition to all the other versions of the small lots and for sure I will use these as I already used the other ones. Thank you!

You are pretty much amazing. I have most, if not all, of your houses.

My eyes are just a little sweaty today.
They've been looking around a lot, searching for you,
They've been looking for you,
Even though I told them not to.

Am I understanding that these are able to use the "move objects on" driveways...

Thanks,

I'm confused. You say:

Quote:
In the "South" ones, the sun comes from the back left corner of the lot, in the "North" ones from front right

If I'm reading this correctly, the suns shines on the front of the house in the North-facing lots and on the back of the house in the South-facing lots. Is that correct?

Yes. If you are in lot view (inside the lot), then that's correct. In hood view it's the other way around. Maxis bork, as you probably know?

But please don't waste any brain cells on my naming scheme =) -- I only needed something to tell them apart *some*how; in my own game most of them are still R and W I think (as in RL 2x1 and Wright Way, the original household names) .. I just thought the broad public might prefer something slightly less obscure.

Oh and

twink,

Yes. If what you mean is sideways driveways. You can place driveways with 'moveobjects on' on any lot, no matter which direction.
