J- I actually don't submit to the contest for the sake of it being a legitimate competition. The most obvious element that makes the "contest" useless is the idea that moderators "choose" a select few to be voted on. Also, as in all contest without true parameters, the "winning" is not so much about talent as it is about popularity. For that reason, I no longer look at it as a contest, but as a "show of creations on a specific topic". I submit because I like to add my little piece of creativity to that category and challenge myself to do something a little different as I create. Besides, lot creators don't receive the same recognition as object creators do. It's just a fact of life. Which makes it more important for my ONLY "competition" to be myself. I do it for the fun of creating for me and sharing it with others.
I believe my designs to be of a superior nature (as all creators who put heart, thought and depth into their creations should). This is not conceit but confidence. Conceit would be believing my creations to be better than EVERYONE else or the only good creations. Not everyone (even some who are popular) submit creations that are superior (as defined above). My lots must please me and in doing so, they will please others. I try not to create the "same" thing as everyone else and to add a little something to the category.
In case you haven't noticed, my lots are not "popular" in that way, but I don't care about that or about "winning". I just like to place my talent out there to be on display for all to see!
I don't need a win or downloads to validate me. I am confident of my talent. I just like to create and share my friend. Even if only 1 person downloads my lot, that is one person who can appreciate the time, effort and passion I put into my designs!
As is life, the so-called "contest" are what you make of them.
As for sci-fi. There is a lack of appreciation for it in the Sims community as a whole. What can we expect? It's like that in society as well. I'm not saying there is not a following for sci-fi (as we all know Trek Conventions are a riot in concept), but I am saying many who run sites that are not Sci-fi specific can't often see the beauty in it. Which in and of itself is sad. People ignore or berate what they can't relate to.
You don't have to tell me about the talent that exists here that goes unrewarded (regardless of whether or not you are seeking rewards for your creations). I use objects by so many creators here at MTS2 that have never been recognized for the sheer genius a single creation brings. So many objects and creations that fall along the wayside. This is not to knock the popular artist. Some actually deserve kudos for their work. However, the search for perfection (which is indeed in the eye of the beholder) often overlooks true perfection or budding talent.
Don't participate in the "contest" J-. It's definitely NOT your cup of tea. Seeing the contest for what it really is...makes it irrelevant to me. It's just another way to put my creations out there for the masses to "SEE". Kinda like a work of art.
How did you slip this one by me? I challenge you...Where's the batleth? :D
Creativity is giving the soul permission to leap beyond the boundaries of the ordinary!
