Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
At last, your less fortunate Sims can make a decent living without having to be peddlers or beggars! They can now work as servants for middle and upper class households…

I began making this career for my own use in my 19th century themed neighborhood but it turned out quite good so I thought I’d share it! I actually did extensive research in order to make it as realistic as possible and I think it will work well for Sims living in Georgian, Regency, Victorian or Edwardian times!

So, the details… This is an adult only career, but once I get the hang of SimPE I will probably add the teen and elder paths. Please note that the career path is different depending on your Sim’s gender. A male Sim in the domestic service career will be rising in the servant ranks of a large country estate, while a female Sim will be working in a townhouse! So at each level, there are different jobs and chance cards for male and female Sims.

For male Sims, the levels and wages are:

1) Page – §50, Days off: Sunday
You run random errands and perform odd jobs for crumpets. Keep you attitude checked and you may find a more permanent position…

2) Stable boy – §150, Days off: Sunday
Finally, you now work in the stables of a country house. Cleaning up the stables is a dreary and dirty job but someone has to do it… you!

3) Horse groom – §170, Days off: Saturday, Sunday
Caring for the horses on a daily basis means you keep them clean and well fed, you lead them from the stables to the fields and you prepare them for riding. No wonder you are exhausted!

4) Gardener – §300, Days off: Saturday, Sunday
You are one of the many workers who make sure the grounds are well kept. You are working outside now so you get to enjoy the great outdoors… and various weather elements!

5) Footman – §400, Days off: Sunday
You now work indoors and outdoors and you get to interact with the house staff. Polish off your rough manners since you may be asked to escort the ladies of the house on their visits to the shops!

6) Valet – §420, Days off: Sunday
The master has chosen you to care for his clothing, his shoes and all his hairdressing and barbering needs! You have to make sure he looks good but don’t forget you have to be well-groomed yourself!

7) Groundsman – §450, Days off: Monday
You are responsible for maintaining the landscaping and the gardens which means that for the first time you have workers to supervise! Don’t let your new power go to your head and focus on making the grounds beautiful and functional…

8) Gamekeeper – §600, Days off: Monday, Tuesday
Make sure the land provides enough game for shooting and fish for angling. With all the hunting exertions the master organizes, keeping the grounds well stoked and the game healthy is a very important job.

9) Butler – §800, Days off: Wednesday
You have proved you can be trusted! You are responsible for the wine cellar and all the valuables silver, gold, crystal and china of the house. Being in charge of all the male and female underservants is satisfying, but maintaining order among the staff can be a challenge!

10) Land steward – §950, Days off: Saturday, Sunday
Congratulations, it can now be argued that you are no longer a servant, but a professional employee! You are the manager of the estate. You hire and fire workers, you settle tenant complaints, you oversee the harvesting of the crops, you manage the timber, you keep the financial records… You duties are many and varied but you have shown you can handle it!

Female Sims will have the following levels and wages:

1) Daily girl – §50, Days off: Sunday
You’ve managed to secure the lowest possible position at one of the grand townhouses! The work is very hard since you do all the heavy cleaning and the pay is dismal, but stick with it and the housekeeper might find a better place for you!

2) Scullery maid – §150, Days off: Sunday
You’re off the dusty streets and into the kitchen. Scrubbing dirty pots and pans all day sure isn’t an easy task but at least it’s warm inside and you have other girls to chat with! Be fast and meticulous in your cleaning!

3) Laundry maid – §170, Days off: Saturday, Sunday
Boil, scrub, dry, press… It takes a toll on your health, but because of you the masters have clean clothes and sheets! Maintain good relationships with the rest of the house-staff if you want to leave the basement…

4) Maid-of-all-work – §300, Days off: Saturday, Sunday
Your mastery in cleaning has been noticed and you are finally given access to the upper floors of the house… using the servant’s stairs mind you! Sweeping, dusting, polishing, cleaning, washing, fetching and carrying all day long… You will need your strength to cope!

5) Parlormaid – §400, Days off: Sunday
The masters need you to light and tend the fire, bring in the tea and light the candles. It can be hard to do everything they request promptly and the constant ringing of the bell is annoying… At least you have fellow maids to share the burden!

6) Chambermaid – §420, Days off: Sunday
You have fewer chores and an easier schedule, but cleaning the chamber pots can hardly be an enjoyable task… At least you get to admire the splendid and luxurious furnishings while cleaning!

7) Nursemaid – §450, Days off: Monday
Your kind disposition makes you ideal to look after the younger members of the household. Tidying and maintaining the nursery should be easy, but you will need lots of creativity to keep the children happy and well-behaved…

8) Nanny – §600, Days off: Monday, Tuesday
You support the physical, emotional, creative and general development of the children. The members of the household actually notice you now, they may even address you, so mind your manners!

9) Lady’s maid – §800, Days off: Wednesday
The mistress of the house requested you as her personal maid, what an honor! You help the lady dress or undress and you do her hair, while being responsible for cleaning, pressing and mending her clothing. Keep your wits about you and you will soon be her companion and confidante!

10) Housekeeper – §950, Days off: Saturday, Sunday
You are the highest ranking female staff member of the house, you very much run the household! Your experience should help you deal with any situation. Enjoy the salary bump and the respect of the rest of the servants!

Your Sims will be able to go to work in their regular clothes, so perhaps you would like to download some of the historical uniforms that All-About-Style offers!
There are chance cards for all levels.
The custom career icon is a feather duster!

I’ve also included a pic of the chance card description for level 2 in the male path!

The career doesn’t overwrite another and it is EP compatible. I’ve tested it in my game with no problems at all!

I hope you enjoy playing this career! Comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated since this is my very first custom career (or custom anything for that matter…)

Take care!

I've actually developed a 19th century fascination lately, so researching about this career was fun! If you have any suggestions about this or another possible historical career I would love to hear them!

Thank you so much, I have been searching for something like this for a while If you are planning to make any other new historical careers, I'd love to see some kind of historical industry career, since most poor people of 19th century were working in industry plants...

So very lovely -- some of my current 1800s families are struggling, simply because they can't afford more sewing machines for all of the family members to help keep the shop going. The possibility of a job that won't mess with my historical accuracy will certainly take the edge off of things. :D
