This is a Maxis Recolour which means that it is a recolour of an item that already exists in your game. Please check the Expansion pack requirements to see which game pack it recolours.
Remember the 'Metal Men' comics? They were the original inspiration for these skintones. These very shiny skins were made with white speculars and by tweaking the reflectivity flags in the skintones. They do not have painted-on highlights; they're genuinely shiny. I tried to duplicate the look of six metals: Silver, Gold, Copper, Bronze, Cobalt, and Veridium. (Okay, Veridium isn't really a metal. He was briefly a Metal Man, though.) As of 9/10/12 I've added Amethyst and Rose Quartz, which are... um, not metals either. The amount of shine depends on the amount and quality of light, but in fairly bright light it's very noticeable.

Also as of 9/10/12 I've added two more sets of all eight colors, with different shine settings.
  • Brushed metal - a less focused shine with something of the look of a brushed metal finish.
  • Plastic - like the name says, a very plastic, kind of wet look which may not be for everyone, but YMMV.

Issues:
Because of the fiddling with reflectivity controls, you may notice the skin has an odd look in shadows, like in the shadow of the dress below. This is more noticeable in CAS than in the game. The skin colors also tend to look slightly different in CAS than in the game. (Like everything else. )

Notes:
Works for all ages and both genders. I made one package with all eight tones, and also four packages with two each for people who don't want all of them. You can get only Silver/Gold, Copper/Bronze, Cobalt/Veridium, Rose/Amethyst; or any combination.

These are formatted to be compatible with the muscle definition slider patch. They will probably NOT work if your game is not patched.

These skintones change ONLY color, shine, and reflection - they use your current default skins as a base and whatever details and texturing they include will show up.

Another note:
For anyone who doesn't have the updated skintone panel mod that makes it easier to see non-default skintones in CAS (originally Rez Delnava's mod, updated for patches by me, all credit goes to him), I've added mine to the download section of this mod.

Additional Credits:
- Rez Delnava for his work on skintones
- HP's Increased Texture default replacement skins
- The unknown mod for a valuable suggestion
- Master Controller for making testing and screenshots much easier
- The invaluable S3PE -

Update 10/19/2011
A new version of cmar_SkinTonePanel is uploaded for compatibility with patch 1.26/Pets. If you can't get the skin tone panel to appear and (maybe) nothing in the CAS age/gender/body slider panel works, replacing cmar_SkinTonePanel.package should fix it.

Update 9/1/2012
A new version of cmar_SkinTonePanel is uploaded for compatibility with patch 1.38/Supernatural. If various stuff in the age/gender/skintone/body slider panel won't work and you're playing Supernatural or patched up to version 1.38, replacing cmar_SkinTonePanel.package should fix it.

Update 9/10/2012
Addition of two new color ramps: Amethyst and Rose.
Addition of two new sets of all eight colors: Brushed Metal and Plastic.
Reorganization of zips to reduce clutter: For each skintone set all the sets of two colors are now in one zip file, name cmar_<skintone name>Individual.zip. You can install whichever color sets you wish from these zips. The cmar_<skintone name>All.zip files contain one package with all eight colors.

Don't forget to Thank the creator after downloading! Use the Thanks button located above the screenshots above.
Quick Guide:

1. Click the file listed on the Files tab to download the file to your computer.
2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file. Now you will have either a .package or a .sims3pack file.

For Package files:

1. Cut and paste the file into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages folder. If you do not already have this folder, you should read the full guide to Package files first: Sims 3:Installing Package Fileswiki, so you can make sure your game is fully patched and you have the correct Resource.cfg file.
2. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).

For Sims3Pack files:

1. Cut and paste it into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads folder. If you do not have this folder yet, it is recommended that you open the game and then close it again so that this folder will be automatically created. Then you can place the .sims3pack into your Downloads folder.
2. Load the game's Launcher, and click on the Downloads tab. Find the item in the list and tick the box beside it. Then press the Install button below the list.
3. Wait for the installer to load, and it will install the content to the game. You will get a message letting you know when it's done.
4. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).

Extracting from RAR, ZIP, or 7z: You will need a special program for this. For Windows, we recommend 7-Zip and for Mac OSX, we recommend Keka. Both are free and safe to use.

These look very interesting. I don't really need them for anything but I think they will be fun to play with. Thanx.

Just to be clear these are not defaults are they?

Finally the long waited upload. I checked the Download section a whole lot just for this for many days. Can't wait to try it in game and dissect the file to see how I failed miserably while doing mine.

Is this the very max setting for shine/reflective you can get?

I work for a living, but I don't necessarily live for a working.

LOL, I was waiting very anxiously too - took 5 days for the mods to get to it, and then they requested a change which took another day for me and then 2 days to wend through the queue again. I'm SO happy to see it finally up.

Yes, this are the max reflectivity settings, but there's more you can do with them - you can boost the shine in only one or two colors (out of red, green, blue) and as I mentioned in PM you can change the focus of the shine. I do intend to make an update to Skininator to make that easier, after a couple of other projects are done. Never enough time!

The pic below shows the location of the flags in the skin .TONE file if you're interested. The numbers circled in red are the shine adjustors - increase those to FF for maximum shine. There are five groups, which adjust the shine for five areas of the skin color ramp - lightest, light, medium, dark, darkest. In each group the three numbers adjust red, green, and blue. (I forget whether it's RGB or BGR.) The fourth may be alpha - I don't remember if I tried messing with that. You can edit those in Skininator now with the TONE editor. The numbers circled in blue are the shine 'focus' adjustors - that's one float number per group. The default is 4.0 (00 00 80 40) and the higher the number the more of a wet shine the effect is; the lower the number the more diffuse it is. (For example, '00 00 00 40' = 2.0, '00 00 00 41' = 8.0, '00 00 80 41' = 16.0)

@Sidney1993Player: The original mod for an expanded skintone panel is not compatible with the last couple of game patches. A new, compatible version by Anach is available on MATY: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/s...p?topic=17647.0 (Look for Anach_CASSkins6x4_1.17.package) and I have one here on MTS: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=434270 (Look for cmar_SkinTonePanel.package in cmar_XCAS_extras.zip) - which I've just added to the downloads for this mod.

@midnightsfall: Glad these are helpful! A whole race of metal people sounds good to me!

@everyone: Thanks for the nice comments!

Wow everyone is going galattic, first I see a really cool star trek space ship and now these skins. I want to use both, but is there a world out there like the moon base world which I can't seem to find, that will tie all these great creations together? I would love to play a theme world!!!

These are awesome! And thanks for adding the skin tone panel, too. I haven't been able to use the good tones I got here since the old slider panel proved incompatible with the multi-patches since. Wonderful work - thank you for sharing these.
As rockopeaches says, now we Xanth fans can make brassies! Yay!

It's not shiny in my game, only in CAS
Is it because I play with low quality? Because I would think there would be some shininess still

Yes, setting Sim Detail to low seems to remove the shine. If you can play at a Medium setting the shine should show up. Sorry!

Yes, they're fully compatible. BTW, Fawkes skintones still work but will disable the new(ish) muscle definition slider.
