When I first loaded The Sims 3 Pets I longed to populate Champs Les Sims with poodles, but when I saw the premade breeds I felt underwhelmed by the large poodle on offer. The small poodles looked okay, but the large poodles were sort of... ...fugly. I decided to design my own set of stereotypical poodles, but discovered that The Sims 3 Pets isn't really capable of making a perfect large standard poodle at all:

The black poodle below, Madonna Alto, comes close enough for my tastes, and although she's certainly a not perfect emulation of the real standard poodle, she's a mutt that I've really enjoyed making. The other three dogs are more fantastical - adding some varied genetics in terms of facial/body structure and coats - but still recognisably poodles. Each has been designed to match a pre-existing household from the base game and earlier expansions.

Madonna Alto

"Say what you want about the Alto family's business arrangements, but the family has good taste, even when it comes to pets. Madonna is a pooch with perfect pedigree, and she knows it."

Family: The Alto household of Sunset Valley
Traits: Hydrophobic/Hunter/Proud
Size: Large Dog

Biscuit Belle

"Kai Leiko gifted Biscuit to his girlfriend Lola Belle, and ever since then this pup has spent his life in the limelight. Appearing even on the covers of weekly women's magazines, Biscuit is not nearly as spoilt as many would suspect."

Family: The Belle household of Bridgeport
Traits: Playful/Hydrophobic/Clueless
Size: Large Dog

Madame Beaumont

"As the sole companion of her lonely, bookwormish owner, Madame loves to entertain visitors. She is very careful to avoid fleas, and loves to preen herself for company."

Family: The Beaumont household of Champs Les Sims
Traits: Friendly/Neat/Likes Swimming
Size: Large Dog

Flora Goth

"As much a dedicated guard dog as a family pet, Flora's custom dye-job allows her to blend right in with Goth Manor's topiaries. She will sit very quietly, and burglars never notice her until it is too late."

Family: The Goth household of Sunset Valley
Traits: Aggressive/Quiet/Genius
Size: Small Dog

Don't forget to Thank the creator after downloading! Use the Thanks button located above the screenshots above.
Quick Guide:

1. Click the file listed on the Files tab to download the sim to your computer.
2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file.
2. Select the .sim file you got from extracting.
3. Cut and paste it into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\SavedSims folder. If you do not have this folder yet, it is recommended that you open the game, enter Create-a-Sim, and save a sim to the sim bin to create this folder, rather than doing so manually. After that you can close the game and put the .sim file in SavedSims
4. Once the .sim file is in SavedSims, you can load the game, and look for your sim in the premade sims bin in Create-a-Sim.

Extracting from RAR, ZIP, or 7z: You will need a special program for this. For Windows, we recommend 7-Zip and for Mac OSX, we recommend Keka. Both are free and safe to use.

This is really cute, kiwi!

I also found the breeds a bit lacking in this new expansion pack and I'm glad people are expanding on them!

A few additional images of the dogs that couldn't legally fit in the original post. These show the dogs animated, and in context:

Like others I was disappointed by the standard breeds that were shipped with the expansion. It's like they never even *saw* one of these dogs before!

I love your poodles... a vast improvement!!! Now if I could only find a corgi that actually looks like a corgi. Curse EA and their discrimination of short legs! Like poodles, I fear we will never get a decent corgi, basset hound or dachshund out of them, either :/

Wow, this looks much better than EA's poodles!

Now, let's hope i can get cuter yorkshire terriers...

I imagine it won't be too long until we have a custom leg slider for dogs. It bothers me too!

What I really way are custom fur sliders, the options are so limited!

I love these pooches! Can't wait until I get my own copy of Pets (might beg my mom to get me one for Halloween) so I can play them, when I saw the large poodles in the Pets Demo I literally facepalmed. Adore yours, and also the little stories you wrote!

Awesome! The EA poodles are horrible! I worked on better ones myself (being a poodle crazy person and all), but these are adorable. Thanks!

@carlydunham

They go in the SavedSims folder just like regular Sims, and are found in the premade Sims in Create-a-Sim.

Wow! This is amazing! Well done you! I have not yet bought PETS EP because I downloaded the demo and was massively disappointed by the breeds. I have a Dachshund at home and I can't believe how badly EA have designed the game!!! Why didn't they add sliders for body length and leg length? This would have allowed breeds like Corgis and Dachshunds to be made easily!!!

Thanks for the reminder aidagarcia, when I uploaded them there didn't appear to be a checkbox for 'Pets' yet. There is now.
