Compatible with 1.55/1.57/1.63, no changes.

This mod adds science skill gain to two objects, the Chemistry Lab table and Telescope. Nerd influence flavors are also available.

It's only necessary to download one zip file. Each zip contains two packages, one for each object, in case you want to install only one.

There are 4 available flavors: (choose only one!)
#1 Science skill normal: Adds slightly more than the amount of Science skill obtained from "Research Science" interaction on the Science Research Station, to the Discover Potion and Make Potion interactions, and the Look Through, Stargaze, and Search Galaxy interactions.
#2 Science skill + Nerd influence: Same as above, with Nerd influence added at a normal rate.
#3 Slower skilling: Both science and logic gain are slightly lower than normal, to compensate for adding a whole 'nother skill to the objects. In case flavor #1 feels slightly cheaty.
#4 Slower skilling + Nerd influence: Same as #3, plus Nerd influence which gains at a third of its normal rate.

Important note:
aka "Why is it not working?"
In my testing, the sims only gained science skill from these objects if they already had at least one level of science. I don't know if it is possible to get around this limitation with this type of mod, but I believe not... it would probably require a script mod, which this is not. I assume your sims will have this problem too, so I suggest using one of these workarounds:
1) Have them study from the Science Research station to gain a level of science skill first.
2) Send your sim to take a science class at a science rabbithole near you. (I completely forgot this option, thanks Menaceman for pointing it out! )
3) Or, using MasterController (with the Cheats module installed), under Advanced -> Skill Level set the Science skill to 1. (I usually do this after they've gained a level of Logic with one of these objects.)

How does this mod handle children?
Children can't use the Science Research station that came with University. So, unless you add the Science skill to them manually with MasterController, they will not gain any science from the chemistry table at all. If you do add a level of skill to them, they will afterwards gain the skill normally, but it will act like a hidden skill until they age up to teen. Then the levels they've gained will magically appear in their skill panel.

Compatibility / requirements
Requires the University Life expansion!
Generations is only required for the chemistry lab table. You can install the telescope mod by itself, since it has its own package.
Made with patch 1.50.
Compatible with 1.55/1.57.

Now your sim can learn scientific facts with his telescope. Hey, it is important to know about fish, right? Especially when you're surrounded by them....

Potential conflicts
This mod overrides the following resources, and will conflict with any other mod that does the same. If you're not sure, check which resources the other mod has listed as overriding.

Chemistry table package:
MakePotion_ChemistryLab ITUN
DiscoverPotion_ChemistryLab ITUN

Telescope package:
LookThroughOrStargaze_Telescope ITUN
SearchGalaxy_Telescope ITUN

Note: This mod does not conflict with Melchi's Chemistry Lab Outfit Fix, in fact it appears they work correctly together.

Inner workings
This is a simple ITUN (interaction tuning) type of mod. I don't own a mod like this, and it is easy to make. This means you can feel free to open it with S3PE and change it any way you like.

Nona's post about ITUNs, which is where I even heard about them in the first place.

You must have the expansion, game version or stuff packs listed below installed to use this custom content. Please see the post text for any exceptions.

You do realize the Science skill is useless right? Just saying.

Do they still gain logic from using the objects?

Yes, they'll still gain logic skill.

Great idea! It's a pity that EA didn't already do this, but thanks to you for doing so.

Thanks! It was weird that you can't gain science skill with the chemistry table.

Another great mod that I didn't even know until I saw it, but in retrospect seems rather obvious. Thanks!

@JackieSmith: It depends on how you play your Sims. If they want a career in Science or Medicine, if they want to clone a Sim or a particularly good/rare fruit/insect/fish/whatever, if you want to be able to bump the quality of a fruit/insect/fish/whatever, or if you want to change your Sim into a Plant Sim, than the Science skill is not useless. Then, again, the Charisma skill is useless to a Loner Sim, and the Painting skill is useless to a Sim that Can't Stand Art. It's all how you play.

I wasn't going to download this once I read that I have to make sure my Sims already have 1 point in the skill for it to take affect as I would forget too often, but then when I was playing yesterday I realised that Sims can take a Science class at the Science Facility in town just like any other skill class!
Now it's a must have.

Hello. Really appreciate this mod. Is it possible to make another version which makes all gym equipments gives Jock influences as well?

What about the other telescope that i think came with high end loft stuff? As in your pictures you only use the base one which i never use.

I love this mod but will it work with the new patch 1.55? Or does it need updating?

Teza: Yes, it is fine to use with 1.55. The files it modifies were not changed in the patch.

Fearless Butterfly: I don't have any of the stuff packs myself, but it shouldn't matter. This mod changes the "Look through" and "Search galaxy" interactions themselves, not the telescope object. So, it should work fine with any functional telescope.

Emino: I guess that yes, probably that would be similar to how this mod works. I can look into it when I have some time... Haven't been playing/modding TS3 much in the past month or so because it's been lagging a lot for me, but I'm trying to get it to behave again. (Now that there's a new EP out )
Anyway, I'll take a look at that and see what I can do. It sounds useful.

I don't think they even changed any tuning with 1.57, just added some new tuning files for Movie stuff pack items. So yes, it's compatible. (:

If anyone's still looking, the mod Emino had requested is up now - gain jock influence from working out on gym equipment or with the TV/stereo. It is here

I didn't even know there was a Science skill! I will be testing this and if there are any problems and/or any bugs/glitches, I will let you know. If not, you won't see me again.

I've ran the dashboard tool. Unfortunately this clashes with "gain fun with telescope" mod. Chavverick (SP?) was the creator I think, something like that. Anyways, thought I would add this. So far it does not conflict with any other mods according to the Dashboard tool.
I removed the "gain fun with telescope" because I think this one is better for me.

I have installed "Telescope Optics Enhancement Kit" and ran the Dashboard Tool. It does not say anything about it conflicting with this mod. I also have posted this information on their page as well. So for those who are looking for telescope mods, these two work just fine together.
