This is a new mesh, and means that it's a brand new self contained object that usually does not require a specific Expansion pack (although this is possible depending on the type). It may have Recolours hosted on MTS - check below the description for more information.
UPDATED! I have finally got around to fixing the issues with the table with the newest version of the game. There are now two versions, one that can be placed on any surface (only usable on valid tables) and a second version that is floor placement only (easier to attach chairs to), download and install only 1 based on your preference. Let me know if you encounter any issues!

Hello all! This is my first modding experience in the Sims 4 and I am here to introduce the Any Surface Chessboard. This chessboard can be placed on any surface as a decoration and can be played on any surface with chairs (for example dining tables, desks etc...). I was inspired to create it after getting sick of finding a place for my full chess table, and not finding any that fit the overall look of my Sim's homes.

Updates:

Version 3.0
  • Finally I have updated to work with the latest build of the Sims 4!
  • Added geostates so that you can watch the pieces move while the Sims play
  • Changed object size on tabletops to better fit the restrictions of the table's use: To note the chessboard cannot be used with large round tables, countertops or raised surfaces. Must be a standard table height with chairs that work with the regular chess table.
  • Adjusted price from 250 to 75 simoleons as this made more sense to me
  • I added a second version that is a floor only model, this one can only be placed on the floor and is a bit easier to attach seats to. I like the any surface placement myself so that is why I have both available.

Catalogue Info:
The Portable Chessboard: Buy mode > Activities and Skills > Knowledge and costs 75 simoleons.
Nothing shows off your mind for strategy like the portable indoor/outdoor chess board. Use it on any surface to match any decor.

Placement:

Some quick tips to get the mod working correctly:
  1. You can place the chessboard on any surface although it will only work to be played on a surface where seats can be attached (will not work with the larger round tables, countertops etc..)
  2. Placing seats can be a bit tricky, I find the best method is to angle the chessboard attach the chairs to it and then rotate it to match the table you wish to place them at.
  3. You can also place it using the moveobjects cheat as well which makes the possibilities endless!

Thank you again for downloading and if you have any questions or encounter any bugs please leave a message here and I will get it to as soon as I can.

Never thought about it but glad it's made. Could you do the same with cards? If you have Outdoor Retreat it comes with a card game too I wouldn't mind having the ability to place it wherever and be portable!

Nice addition. I was just building an ultra-modern, sci-fi home the other day and was a little irked there are no matching Maxis chess tables to suit the build. Now the possibilities have exploded! Great stuff.

What a perfect solution, and it makes so much sense. I mean really most chess games are not nailed to a table. Thank you!

Ha! Ha! That's Revolutionary, it's taken 16 years for someone to finally remove the chessboard off the chess table! Reminds me of TS2 when TV's were glued to the Stand until research finally removed it.

hey i talked with another modder on here and they said to try using TSR Workshop instead of sims 4 studio since sims 4 studio is not able yet to edit the lost geostates

I didn't know that they were supported in TSR workshop, I will absolutely have a look and see if I can add them. Thanks for letting me know.

I placed this board seemingly 'ok', locked the seats to the table but it didn't work.. it stated 'not enough seats' (or something similar, was a few days back now) love the idea though.

Thanks. I am guessing the issue is the seats are snapped to the table not the chessboard. To get it to work, try picking up the board and turning it on an angle on the table, place the chairs so they snap to the board (so they will be on an angle as well) and then pick up the board ( which will pick up the chairs too) and rotate it back to straight. Let me know if that gets it to work for you.

Added an image to the thread with an example of how to place the board if you are having difficulties still.

Default Thanks, it was the table I used though...
Thanks, but it was the table I was trying to use (a sort of hexagonal one..cc ) I swapped to a regular table and it works ok when I place the chessboard last it works ok to 'change the angle' as well.. by grabbing onto anything to twist it round.

Many thanks Kya Sarin, very very nice - yes, a bit tricky with the seats. Unfortunately the chess pieces do not move when the sims play chess. Please tell me, did I something wrong or need another EP / SP? Greetings

It's probably a minor drawback to modding the chess table. I've seen it happen in other objects that had animations.

*Newness coming.....*
