This is a Maxis Recolour which means that it is a recolour of an item that already exists in your game. Please check the Expansion pack requirements to see which game pack it recolours.
**IMPORTANT!: This package will be packed with any houses you upload to the exchange that have Vampires on them, please remove this file before you upload (to avoid people suddenly having different looking Vampires when they download your lot, and to respect my wish for this not to be uploaded anywhere besides here on ModTheSims2.)**

**Update 10/10/05: A little known fact, the only layer that is above the vampire skin tone is the eyebrows. Facial hair, makeup, full face paint, teeth, and "contacts" can be added to a set of custom eyebrows to make them look normal. You can then use this to change the appearance of one Sim rather than all the Sims at once and avoid the blue facial hair etc. Just be sure to adjust the alpha channel so all the sections you added are white/gray (tip for Adobe Photoshop: you can combine several alpha channels into one by pasting each alpha into the image and using the lighten blending mode on the higher layers)**

Ok, before everyone starts complaining about the skin being "blue", let me explain:

The blue I used on this skin is not like the default Maxis Vampire skin, in fact I didn't use ANY of the original textures from the vampire skin, it's more muted with a slight tint of purple (not noticeable). There is a very good reason for using the color blue, blue is the contrasting color to flesh tones (that's why a blue screen is better for human subjects when editing movies) and so you'll be able to achieve a more realistic paleness effect (magenta/red + cyan/blue = gray in the areas that were once magenta/red). In fact the reason a person gets more pale when they die is because the blood in their body turns blue (for those who don't know, the reason blood is red is because it is exposed to oxygen, without oxygen blood is blue).

For this reason, using a strictly gray vampire texture won't look as good; you're de-saturating the entire texture, rather than isolating one area to make it "pale". As for aliens, I haven’t tested this with the alien skin tone, but since the blue in this texture is closer to gray than the original… I assume it will look better than the Maxis default anyway.

The Good Stuff:
Using this your Vampires will have veins on their face, I borrowed wycked’s Vampire Full-Face makeup for this, and I made the area around their eyes a little purple (simply used a Maxis alpha for this); other than that this is all Maxis original stuff (well, I re-colored it). Unfortunately, as is the case with the Vampire skin and replacements, the Vampire texture will still be on top of the facial hair layer (as Don demonstrates in the screenshot). It’s not something I know how to fix, but red and blond work pretty well; I didn’t get a chance to test brown yet. Also the skin is the same transparency as the original, so you’ll be able to see any custom skins beneath just as well. And finally, unlike the Maxis original... Elder Vampires should now have matching yellow teeth to go with their yellow fangs! (someone at Maxis was lazy and just applied the same texture for every face)

The Bad Stuff:
I really wanted to add the fang marks on the neck, but it wasn't possible due to the way the face texture is mapped (you'd have at least two places where the Sim was "bitten").

Note about files:
There are two versions, one with and one without the red eyes. (Because I know some of you don’t like having red eyes on your vampires)

Update 09/28/05: I added a copy of the skin that uses my own re-color of one of Helaene's eyes. It's kind of a dark red with a light violet tint to make it a little more realistic (deep dark red would just look too flat).

You must have the expansion or stuff packs listed below installed to use this custom content. Please see the post text for any exceptions.

Thanks a lot! I was just wondering if you could edit this and make the eyes, as opposed to the maxis-looking eyes colored red, something more real that's red... Like Heleane's Eyes. Something that looks rather real, but is still red. That's be awesome if you could do that!

Thanks, I'll check this out. Keeping the makeup sounds really good to me.

Thanks, this looks much better than my pale vampire skins. I think that I'll use this one if someone makes hack that moves vamp skin under makeup/beards..

I removed the one I had and tried yours and it looks really good. I just wish it had a more detailed and realistic eye. I have default replacements for the Maxis made eyes lol

TSN - Unless Maxis makes a patch that can change this, then I doubt it will happen because they did it to cover up the pale makeups (which are flesh colored) and I don't know if it'd be very easy to assign different layer orders without messing up already created custom stuff. But then again, I'm just guessing.

Ok, I'll see about making a set with the realistic eyes... I have to admit I'm kind of a traditionalist when it comes to custom content (I like stuff that fits with the original feel more I guess), but hopefully this will turn out well. Did anyone notice that the red eyes are slightly transparent, so you'll get different shades depending on what the original color was?

I've finished my re-color of the eyes, check the first post.

Looks awesome. I support all of you guys that make mods for the Sims and I appreciate all the work you guys do to improve each other's work.

What do you mean? Makeup still shows up but it's covered by the vampire texture, that's the way Maxis designed it (and it's not something that can be changed at this time). You'll see the makeup but it will be tinted slightly blue because of this.

Yay, the vamp skin with better eyes was exactly what I was looking for, the maxis red eyes just looked plain bad when I am using helaenes' and tuulias' eyes on my other sims

This may seem silly but would you mind posting a pic of what the regular Maxis vamp skintone looks like for comparisons sake? Sorry but I haven't found any vamps in my game yet. I've gone to Crypt-O and Cold Fusion or whatever over and over and nothing.
Thanks either way.

ok, I'll post the default Maxis skin... hold on

Edit: oh and btw, it doesn't matter what lot you go to downtown... they have an equal chance of appearing on all of the lots.

I want my vampires to have blue/grey eyes. In all vampire movies I have seen, the eyes have been in a shining blue/grey colour.. is it possible to change they're eyes to that colour?

(Gee, my english is really bad^^)

Were you thinking something like this?
(in this image, it's actually a set of custom eyebrows that have the eyes added on top of the Maxis original Vampire skin)

Edit: added a second option for the blue eyes, tell me which you like better and I'll make it. I can say that the second one would be really hard to see in the game as you can bearly see the first one (it's a lot lighter than the original Maxis eyes as it is).
