Picked upload! Tester Wanted: ★ Meshes for Rugs & Mats ★

by Numenor Posted 23rd Feb 2005 at 4:42 PM - Updated 4th Mar 2005 at 4:33 PM by Numenor : Added link to "no-shadow" set.
244 Comments / replies (Who?) - 23 Feedback Posts
This is a new mesh, and means that it's a brand new self contained object that usually does not require a specific Expansion pack (although this is possible depending on the type). It may have Recolours hosted on MTS - check below the description for more information.
Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
Please share your recolours in the *NEW* ★ Recolours for Rugs & Mats ★ thread!!
(It is placed in the "New Objects Mesh Recolours" forum).

04 Mar 2005: Windkeeper has removed the shadow from all the rugs and mats. If you prefer the no-shadow look, you can download the modified set here (it is *not* a mandatory update, though; just follow your personal tastes).
Obviously, you can't have both versions in your game, since they share the same GUIDs and filenames. All the recolours work with both versions.

26 Feb 2005: added info about solving the "invisible rug" problem (look for the icon)

24 Feb 2005: Added a 1x1 Doormat by ECHO

(Original post follows)
Since the rugs seem to be very popular, and many changes were recently made to them,
we felt the need to group in only one thread the following (closed) threads:
"Rug as object" by ECHO
"2x3 rug modified from Echo's 3x4 rug" by WINDKEEPER
"Two more, smaller rugs" by ECHO
From now on, please post all your requests and comments (*not* recolours) HERE.
Do not post anything on the older thread
. All the recolours posted in the old threads are still available from their original posts, including the ones made by Echo and Windkeeper.

At the bottom of this post you can find the latest, working versions of the following objects:

3x4 rug: original mesh by Echo - EP2 compliant - recolourable
2x3 rug: by WindKeeper (based on Echo's 3x4 rug) - EP2 compliant - Uses the same textures as the 3x4 rug and needs the 3x4 rug to work
Toilet Mat: by ECHO - EP2 compliant - recolourable
1x2 rug: by ECHO - EP2 compliant - recolourable
1x2 Bedside Mat - by NUMENOR (based on Echo's 1x2 rug) - EP2 compliant - Uses the same textures as the 3x4 rug and needs the 3x4 rug to work.
1x1 Door Mat: by Echo - EP2 compliant - recolourable

The difference between the two 1x2 rugs is that Echo's one may be recoloured as a stand-alone object (has its own textures), while mine is "linked" to the 3x4 rug: it uses a part of the original 3x4 textures, in order to better look as a bedside mat.
IMPORTANT: since the 3x4 rug, the 2x3 rug and the 1x2 bedside mat share the same textures, if you delete a texture from the catalog for one of the rugs, it will be deleted for all the three!

All these objects have their own GUIDs, and will not conflict with each other.

All the recolours created so far for all the previous versions of the rugs will work fine with these updated versions.

IMPORTANT: has come to our attention that on an external site has been posted a "recolour" for some of these rugs that actually are clones of them. This can lead to conflicts, resulting in having "invisible" rugs in the catalog and in the game. If this happens, use the Clean Installer in order to spot the clones: they are labelled "Game Object". If you want to be sure, open the "suspect" package open with SimPE: if there are more then 3 "Filetypes" listed in the top left hand side, it's a clone!

-------------------
Known issues:
- If very shallow objects (like plates) are placed on the ground covered by the rug, they sink into the rug's "pile". The plate is still there, but you can't get at it unless you move the rug temporarily. This applies to homework, as well: the kids won't be able to do them once they "sank" into the carpet!

- Sims don't like to "Work Out" on the rug. If you have a rug covering the whole area in front of a tv and set the sim to exercise, s/he will not do it. You can either move the rug, move the tv, or find something else to increase your sim's fitness.

---------
Recolouring:

We all know the Sims community works best when things are shared freely, so I'll let you do just about anything you want with these objects. Just a few little guidelines:

- You may share your own creations (recolours or remeshes) based on these bases however you see fit. This includes pay/subscription sites if you so desire (but I am a big fan of free sites!). This is true for both recolours and new bases.
- If you do share items based on these objects, you are not required to provide a link. (That doesn't mean you can pretend you made it though!) If you do want to provide a link, then linking to MTS2 (or even this thread) should be fine.
- You may make these files available from your own site/server as a *free* download if you wish, but you may not charge for it. If you do put the files on your own site, please give us a mention. It'd also be nice if you let us know where it's going, so if we make any more modifications we can let you know.

Enjoy!

Phew - thanks heaps for solving the clone problem with the wc rug. I got those *recolours* the day I got the wc rug so I have never actually *seen* them in game lol.

Beats me WHY they are cloning and I should have realised by the package size. Seriously if I could remember my German better I would ask!

Hi Suza, I'm honoured that you posted your very first message here on the Rug thread!
Yes, you can post your own recolours on your site (let us know, so we'll come and peek! ); you can also post the original meshes on your site, but only if you put them to download for free, give us credits and put a link to this thread.

This helped me so much, I haven't been able to use my toilet/bath rugs for a while now. I found that by removing all of the funny2401 carpetsbath_teppich rugs, I again had the others. Thank for posting your results, they saved my bathrooms!

First, use Object Workshop to recolor Echo's 3x4
Then click on the Material Definition file and change the material blend from "none" to "blend", then click commit.
Then go into the txtr file and right click and export the picture, then right click again and export the alpha file
Edit the alpha file in your graphics program to be the shape you want...be sure to keep the shape inside Echo's actual rug...in the alpha file, white is what shows, black is totally transparent, and grey is semi-transparent, just like in clothes.
Then edit Echo's file anyway you want.
Back in SimPE, right click on the picture and Import your file, then right click again and Import the Alpha file. Update all sizes and commit.
done :-)

Oh yay, I was looking for how you get the alpha to work with the rug <3 I was just using a texture with transparency, I didn't know to set the blend thing in the material definition.
My only question... why does SimPE make my textures look like total CRAP? :\ Attached is a screenshot and a clipped out copy of my texture (in JPEG format)... in the screenshot the details look like hell and the edge is all messed up and pixellated. My texture is nice and smooth. It does this to ALL textures I import, what's the deal? -_-

Saikatsu - are you using the Nvidia DDS tools? They generally make much nicer textures than the default "import" options.

Okay, I'm a little confused. Is Windkeeper's updated version of Echo's toilet mat that fixes the shadow issue available for download here? I see a post in this thread where Windkeeper mentioned fixing it, but no download link and Numenor's original post doesn't reference it as far as I can tell.

I did see it posted on TSR, but it's in the pay section.

I'm actually not sure which version is up there... I have a feeling it's the non-fixed version. Numenor's the only one with update options on this thread though!

Yay...I can post here! I was getting desperate because it wouldn't let me post and I (oops) sent a letter for Echo and Windkeeper to the Contact Us person...I hope that doesn't get anyone mad.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank you all for the great rugs! I have a small Sim Site and I'm planning on updating soon with a recolor of the Echo rug-Windkeeper modification 2X3 showing in the picture and a recolor of the 3x4 is in the download.

I also plan on sharing the two rug bases at my site since we are allowed to do that (THANK YOU!). If you would like to see my site it is at Jaue.com/avalon although the update including the rug is not up yet.

I have fully credited the creators and MTS2 on the page with the picture and also included a text document in the download crediting them again and providing a link to the rugs thread. Also on my links page I have a link to MTS2.

I hope this is ok and that someone could please let me know if it is not. I wouldn't want to repay the kindness of the creators by flubbing up while sharing the bases!

Thanks again for the work of making the rugs and the generosity of sharing them!

I'm posting some updates below for testing. These meshes were updated to remove the shadow on the rug texture. They WILL REPLACE the files you already have, so download them ONLY if you like them. If you want to restore the original rugs, just download the files from the first post again.

*UPDATE* The sides of the 2x1 rug were switched around, you could only notice that if your rug was multicolor. Fixed that and uploaded the file here again.

*UPDATE 18/04* Fixed Numenor's bedside mat. Looks like I've uploaded the old file originally.

WindKeeper, I agree with you that people should be able to choose whether they want the shadow or not (I for one prefer the shadow). So, I was thinking that we should restore the original toilet mat in the first post (so the complete set is shadowed), and keep as a separate download your no-shadow set.
I'm going to add to my post a link to yours, so we don't have to move all the attachments (people may get confused).

I've finally started my Journal. Information only, no questions.

OK, the original set *with shadow* (including the original toilet mat) can be downloaded from the first post.
The no-shadow set can be downloaded from WindKeeper's post.
I've updated the info about the shadows on the first post.

I'm so glad Windkeeper changed this mesh to a 'no shadow' Some new sets I was making didn't match at all since they took the shadow out of the toilet mat. Now, they look great together and match perfectly.

Thanks so much to all of you talented people.

Here's pics of before and after the 'no shadow' mesh.
