Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
This is a set of global mods that change a few things about jobs.
Some of this stuff may have been done before, like uni jobs in Inteen, as I've heard. But I love job related mods and couldn't help making them. Some of them still may be useful. Pick and choose. Separate packages should make it easier.

Mods in this set:
Updates
05.04.2019: Fixed YA-work-wants-fears to liberate wants to join specific careers
28 July 2018: Added choose-career-type+teens version and updated cheat-only version
25 June 2018: Choose-career-type: combined versions Pets-AL and added Cheat-only version
17 Feb. 2018: YA-work-wants-fears updated with new lifted want restrictions (enter career track).

If you have been testing these mods earlier, please remove testing package before adding any of these. I think, it's called "job-options-lamare.package".
Thank you!

Choose part-time or full-time career type
Features & Versions (choose one):
  • choose-career-type
    • Adults, young adults and elders can choose between part-time and full-time jobs. A dialog pops up when your sim is about to use computer or paper to find a job.
    • Teens are still limited to part-time jobs.
    • Debug interaction on a newspaper provides choice as well (by Shift-click with cheats enabled). Young adults, adults and elders see both part-time and full-time menu options.
  • choose-career-type+teens
    • Sims, including teens, can choose between part-time and full-time jobs. A dialog pops up when your sim is about to use computer or paper to find a job.
    • Debug interaction on a newspaper provides choice as well (Shift-click with cheats enabled). Teens, young adults, adults and elders see both part-time and full-time menu options.
  • choose-career-type-CheatOnly
    • Normal job-seeking interaction is not modded at all.
    • Debug interaction on a newspaper (Shift-click with cheats enabled) provides both part-time and full-time options for teens, young adults, adults and elders.
Requirements:
  • Tested on UC (AL/M&G game version).
  • If your latest EP is Pets or later, it might work for you too (test in testing 'hood first just in case).
  • CheatOnly version might work on even lower game versions, but I can't test and confirm.
Compatibility:
  • All versions should be compatible with Pescado's Harder jobs and Cyjon's Job Stopinator.
  • All versions conflict with Pescado's no-age-discrimination. (Though, my mod seems to offer more options in this regard.)
  • CheatOnly version shouldn't conflict with InTeen. Other versions probably do.
  • This mod may conflict with mods that override the same resources:
_

Ask before promoting
Features:
  • Promotions are mostly offered instead of being pushed on sims and pets. A dialog pops up for player to accept or decline new position.
  • Regular promotion offer for job performance:
    • By default, the chance of getting it is 100%, provided sims qualify for the next level, but it can be altered with lower promotion chance mod.
  • Promotions on special occasions:
    • When a random boss's cousin promises promotion (networking bonus), after the next work day, sims are presented with an offer.
    • When a colleague pulls some strings (good relationships or love?), sims get an offer.
  • Better promotion deal:
    • Sims have a 40% chance of getting second offer, after they decline the first one, provided they qualify and have good job performance.
    • Better promotion deal takes sims to even higher position (skip level), but never to the top.
  • Goes without offering:
    • all kinds of penalties, demotions, firings;
    • promotions caused by chance cards.
  • This mod applies to full-time, part-time and pet career tracks.
Versions:
  • ask-before-promotion
Requirements:
  • Requires Apartment Life or Mansions and Gardens
Compatibility:
  • Should be compatible with Pescado's Harder jobs and Cyjon's Job Stopinator.
  • May conflict with Pescado's jobfixes. Looks like it's for OFB jobs. Haven't played them much, so don't know what is wrong with them and what jobfixes fix.
  • This mod may conflict with mods that use the same resources:
_

Jobs in University 'hood
Features:
  • Sims and pets can work while being in university 'hood.
    • Sims from teen to elder, including young adults, can find a job on computer and newspaper.
    • Sims can find a job for their cats and dogs living with them on campus.
  • The game processes jobs properly on University lots (for example, checks for being late) and shows you job-related notifications.
  • Working sims and/or pets get carpool to work.
  • Note: If you get "no more offers" message, try again and you'll get job offers. It may happen when you've just installed the mod or just moved in (some stuff needs time/nudge to update).
Versions (choose one):
  • jobs-in-uni-for-all - for sims and pets
  • jobs-in-uni-only-sims - for people only
  • jobs-in-uni-only-pets - for animals only
Requirements:
  • Requires Apartment Life or Mansions and Gardens
Compatibility:
  • Probably conflicts with InTeen.
  • This mod may conflict with mods that use the same resources:
_

Young adults want and fear work
Features:
  • Young adults can have wishes and fears about work: find a job, go to work, get a promotion, etc.
Versions:
  • YA-work-wants-fears
Requirements:
  • Requires any EP from Nightlife or higher (but I only tested on UC).
Compatibility:
  • This mod may conflict with mods that use the same resources:

Oh my goodness Lamare, this is awesomesauce! Such great creative ideas, and much needed improvements on the system. I especially love the option of being able to choose part time or full time, it'll make getting full time jobs for elders much less of a hassle. I too love job related mods, so I am very glad you decided to give us even more goodness!

I can't say for sure. The rule of thumb is if the want is available to adults - it will be available to young adults, as I removed restriction for them. Aspirations and other prerequisites remained the same. For all I know, most of work related wants may pop up for every aspiration, although fortune sims tend to have more of them.

@Lamare In addition to the Student's job panel revealer and this mod, would it be at all possible so that adult sims can have 2 jobs. A part-time (teen) job with something similar to the Student's job panel revealer (but then called Second job panel revealer) and their full-time (adult job) like normal?
That is just the one thing missing when it's about careers (at least so far as I can think of now).

@lientebollemeis, no, by design, sims can have one job at a time (I think). Schools and majors fill in their own niches in sims' data. I mean, we can somehow simulate second job, but it won't be like two careers at once.

I'm working on a part-time career for adults (thanks to this mod).
When a teen has a career and doesn't go to college the teen career can upgrade to an adult career.
Is that possible for an adult too? When the adult reaches level 3 will there be a possibility to upgrade to an adult (with 10 levels) career?

Yes, it's possible. All that's needed is to make an interaction and find a place to stick it. I was actually thinking about that and considering my job panel revealer object. But I haven't decided yet.

Oh that would be great. I already have some ideas for careers then. It would be awesome if the sim could choose which career to upgrade to.
And if possible maybe downgrade too?

Upgrading procedure is a part of career package - whatever other career is linked to it would be the one to upgrade to. The level is determined inside that procedure as well. That's how it normally works with maxis careers. Surely one can create new procedures, with downgrading and anything, but it would have to be one for each career, and many custom careers would be left out.
You got me thinking. Does career creating process usually include editing this upgrading BHAV? Do people specify for their new part time careers what full time career they want it to be linked to?

I find this useful for adults to take a partime job while searching for that perfect full time one or building up skills in a subsidized aprtment to start out as I've built that myself.

Yes.
At least with conventional custom careers that act the same as regular careers.

Hi, quick question: I use InTeen, because I love the feature where teens become semi-adults halfway through their teen stage and no longer go to school, and get adult jobs, so I don't want to lose that. Would it be possible to create an object that, if clicked on, give the full-time/part-time job search selection? Instead of having it override the newspaper/computer one?

I think so. Sounds something like simblender, insim, or job notice board. Though, I don't recall if they already have such options.

I was distracted for a bit, but I just now checked: blender and job notice board and insim only offer adult jobs to adults, there is no way to switch, so no.

It appears that paper's debug interaction test doesn't conflict with InTeen. I could package that BHAV separately for you. That is, if you're comfortable with using testing cheats and shift-clicking on newspaper to get part-time job for adults.

Default Update
Added Cheat-only version for Choose-career-type mod. It only includes debug mode interaction (when you shift-click on a newspaper to get any job).

This is for @ari_ and anyone else who can't or won't use the full version due to mod conflict or whatever.

I have a question: Would it be a difficult matter to enable the choose-career-type for teens as well? My Sims graduate high school halfway through their teen years and it'd be nice to not have to age them up and then back down to give them a full-time job.

@Bulbizarre, not difficult at all

Added choose-career-type+teens version. In this version, you can choose any career type for any sim, including sims.
Also, updated CheatOnly version to allow teens adult jobs.

I noticed that with the jobs-for-all package, I can get my university pets a job with Maxis computers, but not Monique's computers. The 'Find a job for pet' interaction doesn't show up on Monique's. How can that get fixed?

Hey @Shickamru
It may be fixed by updating the Monique's computer itself.
If you link me to the exact one you use, I may be able to fix it for you.
