Dance Fitness and Body Skilling v1.03 for TS2PETS v1.0p0
Made by: syberspunk

Note: 3/16/2006

A version for the base game ONLY is now available. However, since there is no Goofy dancing in the base game, ALL sims will benefit from this hack, regardless of dance skill/experience. I am too lazy to delve into trying to figure out if there is a way to separate skill. I would prefer not to put any more effort Therefore, this hack is provided "as-is" and the only support I will provide will be in the sense of troubleshooting any errors. There are no further plans to modify this base game version in any way.

Note: Again, posting here since some people may not want to bother heading over to MTS2. Enjoy! ;D

As requested over at MATY this hack allow sims to build body skill AND fitness while dancing.

This is a global hack that affects all stereos, instruments, the DJ Booth, the Karaoke Machine, and Cars!!! Your sims should be able to gain body skill and increased fitness while dancing Solo or dancing together!

To balance this skill gaining, I have also added slight and increased motive decay to Energy, Comfort, Hunger, and Hygiene. Also, the skill gain should pretty much be the same speed as the Work Out interaction with Stereos. So, you will gain body skill, but it will be fairly slow.

Sims with higher dancing skill will have a faster motive decay when it comes to Energy, Hunger, and Hygiene, but a slightly slower decay when it comes to Comfort and a slightly bigger boost when it comes to fun.

This hack will NOT affect Goofy dancing, Slow dancing, OR the Smustle. Look for a future update to the Skillinator mod by J.M. Pescado over at MATY with regards to the Smustle.

NOTE: Your sim requires a little bit of dancing skill BEFORE they can actually gain any body skills or increased fitness when dancing solo. If your sim does not have enough skill yet, then they won't benefit from this hack yet. But... once they've gained enough dancing skill, you should see them start to gain body skill and fitness as well!

These MUST be in your Downloads folder, typically found under:

C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\Downloads

This definately works in Nightlife. This might also work in Uni and the base game. Despite overriding BHAVs on objects that are specific to Uni and NL, if those objects don't exist in your game, it should be harmless (i.e. nothing "bad" should happen since those objects like the instruments and the car don't exist in your EP-less game). Please report back if you do have a problem.

I have tested this in my game and it appears to work fine.

This hack is compatible with most, if not all mods by MATY crew (Pescado, TJ, and CBoy), dizzy, and probably more. Again, up to you to help me determine any possible conflicts.

REMINDER and fine print (to cover my ass ) :
Remember to ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR DATA BEFORE INSTALLING NEW HACKS. By using this hack, you agree to absolve me of any responsibility or liability for any potential loss of or damage to your data. You have been warned.

HOW TO REPORT: Conflicts, problems, or errors
I would appreciate any constructive criticism and feedback that is actually helpful. With that in mind, it would be helpful, when reporting any conflicts or issues, that you include the following:

1) thorough but reasonably brief description of what you were doing
2) clear, comprehendible explanation of your problem
3) list of hacks that may be related to dancing, stereos, instruments, the djbooth, karaoke, or the car
4) archived (.rar or .zip) of log produced by error

Posts which do not include a clear description of what your problem is will be pretty much ignored. (i.e. posts such as "This does not work! I am taking it out! You suck! Nice try! etc.") I can't and won't help you if you don't explain what's wrong.

Please be nice when trying to explain your problem and I might be nice and help you.

:grouphug: Finally, my Thank Yous go to:

baratron for the request over at MATY. J.M. Pescado, twojeffs, dizzy2, and jase439 for being excellent tutors and providing excellent models in their mods. As always, thanks to those creators who've put out some excellent modding tutorials, Quaxi and co for SimPE, and dizzy2 for disaSim2, and the finally letters T and S, and the number 2, all of whom, without which this mod would not be possible.

If I left anyone out, I apologize in advance. You know who you are and you deserve my thanks.

If you have an error log, please zip and attach it. I can try and take a look at the log and see if there is a way for me to fix it so that it will work with Uni for you.

Long answer:

I would imagine that it shouldn't conflict. Without taking a look at Monique's hack, which I do not use personally, I can't think why they should conflict. If anything, if her hack is on a more global level, then it will probably override anything that I've done regarding hygiene.

The only conflicts I would guess might occur should theoretically be harmless. At best, her hack will work as advertised, at worst her hack will have no effect on the hygiene decay rate of sims using this mod. The only thing I did was have a setting for hygiene decay while dancing and body skill building. I didn't make any huge global changes to hygiene decay in general; my mod should only be related to dancing.

Short answer:

I'm not sure, but my guess is they probably won't conflict and that it they are "safe" to use together.

Please report back if you do run into any major problems, like jump bugs and the like. And if you do, please include your error log(s) in your post.

Minor update for OFB. There is a new BHAV which I think allows Sims to watch others dancing. I included it in the OFB version 1.01. The package itself is the same name, so you can simply overwrite your existing one. Please make sure you download the correct version i.e. use the OFB one only if you have OFB. :P

If you use the OFB version without having OFB, you may experience problems. On the flip side, there is no real "harm" using the older version, but you may lose some functionality i.e. presumably this new Watch interaction that seems to only be available in OFB.

Additionally... there has been a report that this mod does not function properly in the base game, so I have updated the requirements for not to at least the Uni EP. If there are further reports that can confirm this mod indeed does not work in the base game alone, I will endeavor to take a closer look at this and possibly make a base game only version.

Edit: After reading this I went back and edited the post to only require Uni. This should be compatible with Uni and all later EPs. I would also have expected this to be compatible with the base game, however, it has been reported that it may not work in the base game alone. Until I have further reports that verify as such, and until someone can provide me an error log to work with, I probably won't be able to make a base game only version. Sorry.

Otherwise, I would expect this to work in Uni, NL, and OFB. Please report back and let me know otherwise, for those of you who only have certain EPs and not all of them. Thanks.

Bleh... thanks for letting me know about that. I went back and edited the post so the other EP icons show up. I'm not exactly sure I like the system... for some hacks it does make sense that a specific EP is required. In other cases you need to at least have NL, but certain hacks make work in just NL or just OFB or whatever.

In other circumstances, a hack might work in all EPs but not the base game. And it's not like you are required to have all 3 EPs, but you have to at least have one of them.

I would hate to think that the only reason someone won't download my hack is because they think it is only for a certain EP. When in fact it might be compatible with a certain EP but requires a specific EP. Like the vampire coffin mod, which of course you absolutely need NL, but I have updated it so it is compatible with OFB (assuming you have NL in the first place). Should I still tick the OFB box? If I don't tick it, does that mean people will think it isn't compatible? If I do tick it, will that mean people will think they must have OFB too?

I don't know is the best way to indicate this using the icon system here. On the other hand, I can't quite think of a better system either.

I do like this mod. However I think the skill gain should be lower than workout with the radio. Although dancing can give you a cardio workout, it's nothing really compared to a full workout routine that you would do when you are trying to work out. Just a suggestion. Besides, the way this is set up now, why ever use the workout option on the radio? Just dance to get a workout with fun as well!

The only thing that I DON'T like about it is that my sims don't have the option to dance solo anymore, or rather, the OPTION is there, but when i click it, nothing happens...

First, you double posted. You really should take the time to either preview your post or use the Edit or Delete options to prevent this from happening.

Second, I mentioned in my first post that this may not work in base game alone. As of yet, I have no means to test this out in the base game alone. If I have time, I will try to see if I might be able to make a base game only version. Otherwise, for now, you will have to make do without this hack. :sorry:

Thanks to cwykes over at MATY, I was able to make a Base Game ONLY compatible version. For those who ONLY have the base game, with NO EPs at all, they should use that version.

I have also edited the first post to indicate which version you should use depending on what EP you have, although it should be obvious.

If not, please read the first post carefully. So for those base game ONLY users, please test out the Base Game ONLY version and let me know if you have any problems.

Just wonderful thanks again, I did wonder why they wouldn't gain skill while dancing, I hope it works for the kids too.

I know this has been out for a while but this is the first time I've seen it. Thanks so much. I always thought sims should get fitness skills from dancing. Great job!

Pets compatible version available. Although the previous version may still appear to work, it has a BCON value that is clobbering a new set of BCONs that are supposed to be used for Pet related stuff. If you have Pets, you should update to the newer version, otherwise you may experience unpredictiable behaviour in game.

I've just discovered this and can't help but scratch my head as to why Maxis never thought of adding this in the first place. (-_-) Thanks a lot for this!

Anyway, I hope this isn't too old. I'll report back if there's any issues.

The main post is very clear on which version I need, but the file names are not at all clear on which which file is the newest one with all of the bugfixes. Would someone please be so kind as to tell me which is which?

Question: One of the downloads available says "Base game ONLY" but in this thread you've repeatedly said it may not be compatible with the base game only. Is it compatible or not?
