"Metropolis Apartments"
by boolPropped

The inspiration for this building began well before the release of Apartment Life. About 3 years ago, when I first started playing TS2, I found a picture of a modest studio apartment room. I don't know what it was about that studio, but I loved it. I printed out a picture of it and kept it, intending to reproduce it into my own game eventually. With the release of AL, I decided that this was the perfect time to incorporate that studio into an apartment building. Thus was born "Metropolis Apartments."

"Metropolis Apartments" include 6 apartment units with rent ranging from §785-§1,538 per week. On the first floor of the building, there are 2 full studio units at the back of the building. The two units in the front of the building are two-level, connected by spiral staircases. The first level of these units hold the kitchen and living room areas, while the upper level has two bedrooms and one bathroom. The two studio units on the second floor of the building use the layout of the apartment that inspired me so long ago.

(Second floor studio)

(Kitchen of a ground unit)

(Living room ofa ground unit)

The inside common areas of the apartment are limited to two foyers, one per floor, which support an elevator and staircase and community trash chutes. On the other hand, the backyard common area has a lot to offer! There is a basketball court, swimming pool, BBQ area, chess table, side yard and playground.

The .rar Files

I have included two .rar files for this upload. They are two different versions of the building.

MetropolisApartmentsV2.rar - Fully furnished, zoned as apartment
MetropolisResidentialV2.rar - Unfurnished, zoned as residential

The reason I included two versions of this lot is if you want to edit the outdoor common areas or the fences (etc) or furnish starting with a clean slate without having to re-zone the lot a zillion times from apartment to residential back to apartment. So do with the versions as you wish

Miscellaneous
  • This apartment has been play-tested!
  • Floorplans for unfurnished version attached
  • Unfurnished residential version costs §72,196
UPDATED (10/23/2008)
  • Elevator Issue - Apparently I used the elevator "connector" shaft on the upper level, so it wasn't operational. I have fixed this issue, and Sims will now be able to use the elevator to travel to all floors (in both the apartment and residential versions).
  • Mailbox Placement - The mailbox was also moved a bit. I noticed that carpools pulled up to the mailbox and blocked Sims from getting out of the car.

Basic Download and Install Instructions:

1. Download: Click the download link to save the .rar or .zip file(s) to your computer.

2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file.

3. Install: Double-click on the .sims2pack file to install its contents to your game. The files will automatically be installed to the proper location(s).
  • You may want to use the Sims2Pack Clean Installer instead of the game's installer, which will let you install sims and pets which may otherwise give errors about needing expansion packs. It also lets you choose what included content to install. Do NOT use Clean Installer to get around this error with lots and houses as that can cause your game to crash when attempting to use that lot. Get S2PCI here: Clean Installer Official Site.

Wheww, well this takes care of what I was looking for! I was hunting around for the perfect looking apartments to integrate into Simmington Hills, and yours is a perfect fit for the area I'm thinking about.

Thanks so much!!! I can't wait to put Metropolis Apts. into the game!

Edit: I downloaded the furnished apartments. I went inside it from the Neighborhood View, and I noticed that the elevator on the 2nd floor doesn't have a door leading out. (It's a solid wall surrounding the elevator shaft, it's in your pictures that way, too, but I didn't notice it before.)

I don't see where the lift can go any further...there's not a 3rd floor/roof exit, and also no basement. I also see that there's a staircase that can be used instead to reach the 2nd floor apts. So, that's good. A "Plan B" for my simmies in case the elevator ever broke down.

I'm pretty sure you meant to have the elevator doors lead out onto the 2nd floor, right? At any rate, I just wanted to bring this to your attention. I guess I'll have to rezone the lot to residential to fix this, I hate to mess with it though...I'm so afraid I'll mess something up. I'll keep checking back to this thread in case you respond.

Love it! Thanks Pretty easy to play, thus far!

Only thing that was a little bit of a bummer is that I couldn't do a double/full bed in one of the units on the ground floor that has an upstairs. But other than that, perfect!

UPDATED 10/23/2008

Elevator Issue: I have fixed the elevator issue. I had accidentally used the "connector shaft" on the upper level instead of the actual elevator unit. But I replaced it, so the elevator should be usable for travel, WooHoo and all that good stuff

Mailbox Placement: After play-testing a little more, I noticed that carpools pulled up right to the mailbox, effectively blocking the passenger door from opening. Eventually the Sim would reset and jump out of the car, but with moving the mailbox slightly back it should get rid of the jump issue altogether.

Thanks for updating the lot, BP! I've got to say again...this lot is GORGEOUS and so realistic-looking!

I've been playing your old version for about 4 simdays with no major problems. My Sim, Seth, lives in the left side studio apartment on the 2nd Floor. He bought a Murphy Bed to hang on that wall, and puts his loveseat in and out of inventory. (I pretend it's still there. *smiles*) He just proposed to and moved in Marisa Bendett! I'm just praying there's no babies anytime soon. (ACR) I love the noisy neighbors, so realistic for this mid.-to-poorer class area in my hood. My Sim is constantly banging on the walls for them to shut up. LOL!

Every now and then, there's a crowd of Sims at the door, making it hard for my Sim to exit his apartment. But, it doesn't happen often enough for it to be a problem. The carpool has been fine for me.

I'm really happy that they can take the elevator now. The stairs have been fine, I just think the "ding-ding" sounds of the elevator is missing from the ambience of this beautiful apartment. *smiles* I'm gonna move them out and place this new lot.

Thanks again!

I absolutely love this. I've been trying to build something like this for a while, even just a single house before AL. It is so awesome, the loft-style and studio, it's just the best apartment I've seen so far. Thank you so much, this will really help my game step up another level to get it back to where it was before my computer crashed from my cc overload (so far, I've been doing ok, not clogging up the computer, but my game still needs some upgrades) thank you so very much!
