Is it okay to put subfolders in the packages folder?

absolutely.
The included resource.cfg allows for 4 levels of subfolders!!!
(I'd recommend you keep it to only one or two though, so it's easier for the game to read

FWIW: I used this and it dumped the Mods folder in my Users/username along with a DCCache folder in it [empty]. I moved the Mods folder to the right place and everything else seems to work OK. Strange. I wonder if anyone else has had this happen.

I'm 10.5.8. Everything works fine now that I moved the mods folder to the right place. Thanks for this. Now if it will only work OK when I finally install WA and HEL!

Jack

BTW: Does the mods folder have to be duped into WA too?

Well, it should stay in the documents/electronic arts/the sims 3 folder, so you won't need to move it or anything

Should I use this, do you think, if i DON'T have ambitions installed?
I just have the base game and HELD (up to date with patches. My launcher tells me i am up to date with patches, version 3.5.8.007001)

The old method is working but there are mods, one in particular that doesn't work with the old method (kill running everywhere) that I would really like to install!

What do you think?

Dylanny - I think it works well in the documents folder, and it's much easier to mess around with (particularly with programs like Delphy's Dashboard and S3pe) because they can find the documents folder!

RNH31214 - after patch 1.12/2.7/3.3/Ambitions, it goes in Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods
and then - as this installer does - you have inside that Mods folder, a packages folder and a DCcache folder (although I'm still not sure exactly what that does...) and the new resource.cfg
If you have to do it manually, there are instructions on this site somewhere...

Just got a Mac after playing on a PC for years and other than trying to figure out to use stuffit haha the program worked liked a dream and all my mods seems to be fine. If only I could figure out the magic mouse. Thank you!

Does this program also work with versions of Mac OS X in other languages?

EDIT: Nevermind, I tried it, and it doesn't
I guess it's manual install for me then...

Thank you for this! I moved from PC to Mac to play this game (I still use my PC, I'm not one of those people that like only one) and I used to use the monkey stuff. I figured out how to install framework manually for my Mac, but I used this today just in case. Turns out I did it right, but still, it's good to *know* it was done right... y'know?

I was super confused for a few minutes there, because you gave us the choice of "Install for me only" and "Macintosh HD", and every other piece of software I've ever installed has wanted to go to Macintosh HD. It was only when I saw where the files had gone and thought "hang on... shouldn't they be associated with MY home directory?" that I realised what I'd done. Maybe get rid of this option, because if people are advanced enough Mac users to have installed Sims 3 somewhere weird, they're probably also advanced enough to create a couple of directories and copy in a file themselves? Or make it more idiot-proof, so that it CONFIRMS the location before writing the files?

Also, could you please change the part at the end where it loads your Mactastic Sims homepage so that it opens in the default browser rather than Safari? Some of us can't stand Safari . It was as annoying as when Windows installers boot up Internet Exploder despite the fact that an open Opera or Firefox window is available!

Apart from that, it seems pretty useful. Just a bit more idiot-proofing, please!

I DL this super utility some months ago and it installed just fine. No option like you describe above.

I have just reinstalled all The Sims and add ons including Pets and came to DL this tool again before I go ahead with CC and it gave me the “INstall For Me Only” option for the 1st time.

I have tried that AND then choosing the Mac HD but it keeps failing regardless of which option I choose.

I am unable to manually pick the correct folder (Documents - Electronic Arts - The Sims3)
so as it stands I cant use it and there for install any CC

Would appreciate some advice but totally understand if youre sick of noobs like me

It doesn't work on me... Please help... I've been trying the for 2 days.
I have a failed attempt in installing .package files manually in the sims3/content/transgaming/Program Files/Electronic arts/The Sims 3/Mods/ Package folder.
I tried the no intro.package but it still happens...
