It's really not much of an issue for me, I simply removed it, just thought I'd tell you.

OK, thanks for letting us know. Perhaps other people on MACs can let us know whether this works for them, or has problems.

I'm also on a Mac and have also been unable to use this item, even on residential lots. Interestingly, the game will load, and the lot will load if saved on the ground floor without a foundation. Upon trying to "go up a level" in viewing the game will crash.
