These work great to banish those constant wants for something not needed. Since I'm addicted to tiny lots, I've been using the amazing 3-in-1 bathrooms converted from Sims3, but the toilet want still appeared. I by-passed this by placing a cheap toilet under the roof or anywhere else it could be hidden. Wasting pointless simoleons is . . well, pointless. The car one bugs me on a 1x1 lot, if there's no room they shouldn't want for it. It's also pointless to pay the price just to rid the want so I have to deal with those ones. Thank you so much for these!

If you mean, "Can I change the functionality of these, make them work for different wants, by recoloring them?" then, no, that won't work. In order to change what want they fulfill, you have to manipulate the painting's OBJD, and you can't do that with a recolor file because the OBJD isn't included. What you CAN do, if you don't want one of the ones I've created, is to go into its OBJD and change its want category to whatever you want, once you know the right string to change it to to make it fulfill a want for whatever object you want it to fulfill. Then you don't have to mess around with cloning, putting the clone on a new GUID, etc.

On the other hand, if you're just asking if you can recolor these, then yes, they are recolorable. Had to be, to make the invisible recolors for them.

Well indeed I meant if they are recolorable so it doens't have to be invisible, but can be like a picture of a pokemon or something else that can be useful in the house and still fulfill a useless want.
I'm actually trying to create an object that fulfills other wants than these, but I'm having trouble with finding the correct string. I've searched in the wants.package file, but I'm not sure which code to use.
Can you help with that?
Like for example what string do I need to use if I want an object to fullfill the want "Adopt a child" or "Adopt a teen"?

Some replies, since I'm sitting here waiting for my game to load.

@sandya: Yes, I made these because I play a lot of hostels and boarding houses where an individual's "apartment" consists only of a bed, sometimes with not any space left over for anything else. And even if there WAS space, it would ruin the whole feel of the place if each room had a private bath and kitchenette. So, those wants would be, essentially, locked, and since most of what I do when playing is fulfilling wants...Well, I was kind of stuck on those lots. Hence my frustration, so I was happy to be pointed in the direction of something that had the potential to fix the situation.

@alchemist: You're very welcome. I hope you find the tutorial useful. I figured it was better to teach people how to make these themselves than try to fill a lot of requests that I might not have the time or inclination to do. Kind of a "Give a man a fish and he'll eat for the day. Teach a man to fish and he'll eat for life" sort of deal.

@Duine: Yeah, I've done the "turn on the apartment cheat that lets you place stuff in the common area and then hide a toilet in the eaves" thing. And it does work, but it looks a little silly. At first, I created some invisible recolors of such things because then at least it didn't look silly and the want went away. But then I discovered that I'd sometimes get stompy, hand-waving, desperate-to-pee Sims trying to get at the invisible toilet in the eaves in order to use it. So, that didn't work as well as I'd hoped. But I did find other uses for the invisible toilet I made, so at least that time wasn't wasted.

And also, the person who originally made these painting made a car one, so you might want to poke at their creations. Theirs don't have invisible recolors, but invisible recolors are ridiculously easy to make...

@lientebollemeis: I'm sorry, but I only know how to make these work to fulfill object wants. An adopted child isn't an object, I'm afraid. I'm actually not sure if those wants could be linked to an object at all. If they can be, I'm afraid I have no idea how to do it. I'm just a beginner at this modding stuff.

@ttowntallyho: Yup, good for refrigerator-wanting Plantsims, definitely. And, for me, vampires, too, since I have a mod that lets biting other Sims fill hunger, so I don't let them eat food, either. My households that are all-vampire don't have kitchens in their houses. So, they used to get the fridge, stove, and counter wants. Not anymore! :D

These work so well and so beautifully that I have to ask about the possibility of more. My sims frequently roll wants for items that don't exist in the game at all. Very expensive games, stereo, etc or things which are so huge that they can't fit in a regular sized lot. This sort of thing - costing a lot would help me out in these situations. What do you think?

These can certainly be made to fulfill wants for any object of any price. I made a tutorial for making them yourself, from start to finish, including making the invisible recolor, written such that people who've never done any kind of creating at all, ever, could follow and do it, from start to finish, so long as they have SimPE and a basic image editor. It's here, if you want to give it a try yourself: http://dramallamadingdang.tumblr.co...9/tutorial-time

Of, if you don't want to try it yourself, you could let me know exactly what you want and I can make it for you, with the proviso that it will probably take me longer to get to it than it would take for you to do it yourself, if you have the tools you need.

I'm mostly found on (and mostly upload to) Tumblr these days because, alas, there are only 24 hours in a day.

I followed your link even though I have never attempted to modify any object at all. First I was mystified by the term GUID though I have seen it before in reference to creating objects. I read everything and tried the links that were in the document edit. I found out that since 2010 there is no GUID generator. Then saw ways to "fix" it by googleing a hexadecimal, then adding or subtracting 2 digits. I don't have a picture editor but would be willing to get one if I really believed I could do this. I appreciate your reply and will spend a bit more time trying to learn what you called very easy. I was a teacher for years and know just how difficult not knowing the basics can make something that appears easy to those who know. I do have SimPE but only use it for specific things that there are tutorials for.
Thanks again.

If you decide to give it a go and have any questions, please feel free to give me a yell. On this thread, by PM, whatever. It's pretty detailed, without much technical jargon. The least-detailed part is probably the graphics stuff, by necessity, because I can't cover exactly how to do things in every image editor that exists. But it shouldn't be TOO hard to figure out.

As for GUIDs, what you need is a 9-digit number in hexadecimal (which is base-16 counting, as opposed to the regular base-10 that we use in everyday life.) You just need to use a random number generator available online to generate digits in hex. This one works: https://www.random.org/bytes/ It will randomly generate a batch of bytes for you in various formats. A byte is a two-digit number, so to make a GUID, you can just have it generate 5 bytes and then stick the digits it generates together except that you'd leave off the second digit of the fifth byte. Bam, a 9-digit randomly-generated GUID.

And all that said...Well, like I said, if you chicken out and let me know exactly what you want, I'll be happy to throw something together for you.

Thank you! I have a weirdly set up apartment building (works like a shared house, one room per sim) but I couldn't properly play it cause they were always wanting to buy a toilet or something, when a perfectly good one was across the hall. You've just made my life.

I think you aren't getting half as many thanks as you'd deserve. I feel like you saved my life because I love to stuff my sims to apartments like that when they go low in cash or need to save but haven't been able to because of this. Game is going to feel like new when this is in effect. Thank you!!

Very nice mod! Would love to see something like this updated for the fortune sims. They keep wishing to buy things and the mod I have is outdated.

This has helped me a lot! I take away the refrigerator during parties so the guests will eat the refreshments they're served, and now I don't have to look at the household Sims' refrigerator want the whole time. Thank you.

I really love this mod for my small apartments with public bathrooms, I have one problem though. Is it possible to remove the shadow? The "invisible" paintings barely hide behind a minifridge.

ETA: I found out how to remove the shadows myself. Thanks again for the mod!

Thank you for these mods. I have a new colony of Plantsims who roll wants for toilets, etc - when they don't actually need them! I will be using these for them.
