You Are Still Green – The Proper Neighbourhood Grass

Update 23/04/17: I fixed the road so it doesn’t show white stripes when you zoom out any more (preview here), so please redownload if you happen to use my replacement. Sorry for inconvenience. I also edited the road corner (and dead end) snow texture so it fits better my snow replacement (not worth showing as it’s basically the same).

You decided to boot up the game. You select a neighbourhood with the lush terrain type, load it, and see a nice green grass, and as an addition a detailed texture on hills and stuff. Great. Then you load a lot, and what happens? Magic! The grass is nowhere as green as it was in the neighbourhood view, instead it seems desaturated to some extent and dull in general. This replacement fixes it – when you load a lot no magic things happen and the grass you see remains as green as it was in the neighbourhood view, and its texture is similar to what you can see on hills. Green on both sides of the loading screen!

As it’s a Maxis texture it’s seamless (it’s the easiest to see in the empty lot picture) so I didn’t need to edit it (I only had to edit it to apply it to roads), and it looks basically the same in the neighbourhood view as the the original grass, the main difference (and the point of this upload) is the lot view. I attached lots of additional pictures to show it looks good in the game, much nicer than the original dull texture (no idea why they used it if they had a better one, but oh well, it’s EA isn’t it ). I’m fairly sure I’m not the only one who thought about making such a replacement, so there probably is a similar one somewhere on the internet (I haven’t found it though), but I decided to share mine anyway; I didn’t plan to initially, I just made it for myself some time ago, but maybe someone will have a use of it

It is nice to have green grass that isn't perfectly manicured, but green nonetheless. Thank you!

Yay. Now the grass won't be 'greener on the other side' anymore!

I already use a default replacement grass so I don't need this one but this is an excellent idea ! I just wanted to thank you for the screenshots of your lots, they are wonderful. You are very talented at landscaping and that inspired me for my own neighborhood.

This is a godsend!! I've ALWAYS hated the Maxis grass, I usually cover up every home in my neighborhoods with something much greener.

I could never understand why the grass went from so green in TS1 to almost yellow in TS2! Thanks so much!

A little note: This mod may conflict with those using default replacements for roads. Not a big thing ... you'll just have to make up your mind whether you want nicer grass or nicer roads.

Thanks to ALL free-site creators, admins and mods.

RIP Sunni ... truly a ray of light.

I want to use this but I don't know if it is compatible with the radiance lighting mod plus I love these road defaults too much.

It’s a texture replacement, it couldn’t possibly conflict with RLS And if you like CuriousB’s defaults, you need to decide if you prefer to keep those or switch to mine.

Does anyone know if there is a Terrain Paint match so that lots already placed can match??

Great thing! I really wanted something like this. I have a question: if i install to my game this texture and only road default by CuriousB’s will I have problems in the game?
