What it does
Discomfort will affect your sim's mood in new ways. Small amounts of discomfort can make your sim more susceptible to other negative thoughts, tipping them over into being overcome with anger, tension, or sadness. But when it's appropriate, the 'uncomfortable' mood can still take centre stage and make your sim feel awful.

It can help your sims feel a little more human, and allow them to experience a wider range of emotions.

Uncomfortable Overhaul is also included in the newer Meaningful Stories mod!

Uncomfortable Overhaul in detail
Changeable Discomfort: 'Uncomfortable' is now a changeable mood, which means it can boost the score of other negative emotions similar to how 'happy' boosts the score of positive emotions.

Passive Discomfort: The score of changing uncomfortable moodlets is added to the largest negative emotion when determining what dominant mood to put the sim in, but NOT when determining what intensity level of that mood to put them in. A bunch of uncomfortable moodlets can flip a sim from feeling 'happy' to feeling 'sad', but they cannot boost a sim from feeling 'sad' to 'very sad'. This allows the base game's balance between mood intensities to be maintained, and means emotional deaths remain rare.

Assertive Discomfort: If an individual uncomfortable moodlet has a score larger than all of the largest other negative emotion's moodlets combined, then it will overcome the other negative mood and force the sim into the 'uncomfortable' mood. This means that extreme uncomfortable moodlets like the +40 'really needs to pee' moodlet still make your sim feel appropriately uncomfortable.

Known issues
  • Uncomfortable moodlets that are boosting another emotion are displayed as fading from green to the boosted emotion's colour, just like a happy moodlet boosting a positive emotion. This appears to be a hardcoded visual, and can't be fixed.

Recommended mods to go with this
  • No Happy Environment Moodlets
With permanent happy moodlets around, it can still be hard for a negative mood to come to the surface. Disable happy moodlets from decorations for a better balance between positive and negative moods.
  • Emotional Inertia
With emotional inertia, discomfort causing a negative mood will be a bigger deal, with more lasting consequences.
  • Variable Emotional Traits
Random strength moodlets from emotional traits can give another little push towards gloomy and hot-headed sims sometimes feeling sad or angry.

I uploaded an update with a bugfix, some changes to the scripting, and a spruced-up download page.

v0.7.0, 27th May 2018:
- Mood strength modifiers are now properly accounted for by the Passive Discomfort feature. Teens will no longer be incorrectly boosted into higher intensity levels of negative emotions by uncomfortable moodlets.
- Scripts reworked as part of work on Meaningful Stories
- In-game menu removed
- The mod no longer uses a package file, and 'roBurky - UncomfortableOverhaul.package' can be safely deleted before installing 0.7.0

There is only a script file and no package file in the zip. Is that meant to be like that or is it missing? Thanks

My mod Meaningful Stories is now available! It is made up of the best of all of my work redesigning the emotions of The Sims over the past two years, including Uncomfortable Overhaul. If you've been enjoying Uncomfortable Overhaul, I recommend you try out Meaningful Stories!

Quote:
Meaningful Stories is a mod pack that redesigns the mood and emotions system of The Sims 4. This collection of changes big and small aims to allow your sims to feel more human, to make the events in their lives feel more meaningful, and to turn managing their lives into a more interesting challenge.

Your sim might get into a depressive rut for days that takes planning and effort and some help from their friends to overcome. Or your sim's creative nature might be filling them with inspiration when they ought to be focused instead, so you send them to work on their novel to get the ideas out of their head. But then something special happens, like a new friend, a promotion, or a first kiss, and they feel truly happy for once, in a way they never have before.

I think that as of the June 18th patch it doesn't work. My game wouldn't load so I turned off mods and it started to work again; I tried finding the culprit and when I took this one out my game started working again. Kind of odd since yesterday after the patch it worked as it should and my game still ran. Just thought you should know.

It's working mostly fine in my game, post Island Living. I've had a few bugs with mermaid related moodlets though. For example, I had the Dehydrated uncomfortable moodlet boosting Embarrased which managed to stick around even after the mermaid maxed out their Hydration and no longer had any embarrassing moodlets.
