Works with 1.52.100!

Incorporated into simrealist's "Private Practice" mod!!!
Yep, that's right! You can now enjoy Cooler Sicknesses in a completely new way! Simrealist's mod "Private Practice" is a general health mod with a lot of additional features like doctor's appointments and your sim age depending on their health status! A lot is planned, a lot is already in it, including my mod!
if you wanna use Private Practice, make sure to delete my mod first.

What this mod does
  • Increases symptom length
  • Makes illness buffs visible and affecting mood
  • Fixes original illness buffs to not be cured by travelling

Longer Symptoms
Since I have been sick and tired (haha, get it?) of my sims being sick for like 2hrs only, calling in sick for work and then jumping around totally healthy all day,
I originally created this tuning mod to increase the length of symptoms based on the illness type.

Illness type mild: 12 hr symptoms instead of 2hrs

Illness type severe: 24 hr symptoms instead of 3hrs

Now showing illnesses!
With the update to Version 2.0, I added the ability to actually tell what kind of illness your sim suffers from. The buffs (and therefore the illnesses) are hidden in the original game, so you can just kind of tell what kind of illness they have by looking at the symptoms. Not needed anymore: I added visible buffs with icons to make them actually visible! These illnesses are the same as the ones you can discover in the doctors career. There's two different types for each illness - mild and severe. Besides a change in symptom lengths, I haven't noticed any difference in those two yet. Expect further examination.
Illness lengths are not shown. You never know. There needs to be some challenge in that system, doesn't it?

There are 8 different Illnesses in the game:
NumberIllnessMoodSymptoms
1Bloaty HeadUncomfortable +3Headache, Steamy Ears
2Burning BellyUncomfortable +3Fever, Nausea
3Gas and GigglesPlayful +3Giggling, Nausea
4Itchy PlumbobUncomfortable +3Itchiness
5Llama FluUncomfortable +3Cough and Sneeze, Fever
6Starry EyesDazed +3Delirium, Dizziness
7Sweaty ShiversUncomfortable +3Fever, Itchiness
8Triple ThreatUncomfortable +3Cough and Sneeze, Dizziness

This mod should generally be fine with updates, unless EA touches sickness buffs.
If you notice else, please notify me.
You need to have The Sims 4: Get To Work

Possible Conflicts/Known Issues
Using "Slice Of Life" mod by KawaiiStacie will cause the symptom length being reduced to the regular values. KS has been contacted about this as I can't do anything about this.
This mod may conflict with any other mod altering the Buff Tuning files listed above.

Any thoughts, wishes, critics? Feel free to leave a comment

It's been planned, but right now, I'm in a dialogue with the creators of another mod regarding sicknesses etc. They follow exactly the plan I had, they are much more experienced... We will see about that. As for right now, I'll leave it as it is.

Did you remove the types for mild and severe sicknesses? I wanted to change the values to my liking and I saw your new sickness buffs along with the vanilla game ones, that got me kinda confused :P

I am changing stuff in the vanilla game buffs. Most of what you see is what is already in the game.
The values of how long a symptom stays is determined in said buffs.

Haven't really had much time lately. I think it is? I don't know why it shouldn't be, EA never really touches the sickness system in their patches. I'll check through my mods on the weekend making sure they are all up-to-date

Big Announcement!

As some of you might have noticed/known:
Cooler Sicknesses is slowly but surely becoming part of simrealist's "Private Practice" mod!
Currently only available on their Patreon version, CS will now be part of Private Practice.

But I don't like the stuff that comes with Private Practice!
No problem - I'll try and keep this as a standalone up-to-date, however, I can't say whether or not I will keep further developing it. roBurky, who took over the development of the mod, has already tweaked the files a bit to fix some problems occuring, especially with the help of scripts. Since that is out of my league, I'll just leave it as it is right now, make sure it's compatible with newest versions, and that's mostly it.

I will, however, try and focus on another project I have planned, so don't worry, you won't have to live without my mods from now on something's planned.
Spoiler, it has nothing to do with sicknesses.

Thanks for all the support with this, now stay tuned with Private Practice and make sure to not miss the day the update goes public - and no, you won't have to pay for what you used to get here - public version will eventually release.

I got a report of conflicts with KawaiiStacie's "Slice Of Life" mod. im currently checking that

EDIT: Checked, couldn't figure out WHY this happens, but:
Using SOL will reduce the symptom length back to the original values.
I tried contacting KS, but she hasn't answered yet.

As you can see, this mod has been fused with SimRealist's "Private Practice".
There's parts I would love to improve but honestly, I have neither the skills nor the time to do so at the time. I created this mod when I had MONTHS off school, and now that I'm working/studying at the same time, getting into new programming things and stuff is just not something I can squeeze in. I'm sorry!

My sims have also been sick for days without getting better. Is there a way to fix the problem?

Hey, stumbled on this mod and I managed to confuse myself a little. If I have SimRealist's Private Practice mod installed, does that mean I don't need to download Cooler Sickness, or do I need both installed? Looks like a really cool mod, especially for a Rags to Riches extreme edition of sorts and I'm excited to play around with that XD Hope you're doing well!
