No More Fish Sadness!

Update!
As per request, I've added a new version "mounted fish sadness" which removes the negative buffs detailed below while keeping the sad buffs from viewing mounted fish, and the mourn fish friend interaction. Enjoy!

It didn't make sense to me that my mermaid sims would dislike eating fish. I mean they're mermaids, they live in the ocean, so eating fish should be normal right? So instead of avoiding this trait altogether, I decided to finally change it up.

This is a simple tuning mod that removes some of the buffs related to the child of the ocean trait. Your sims will no longer receive negative buffs for eating fish, fishing, emptying traps, or looking at mounted fish! This will also remove the "disgusted" reaction to eating food made with fish.

This is great! I wonder, though, is there a way to keep the negative reaction to mounted fish while getting rid of it for activities related to eating fish? I mean, not all omnivores wanted mounted deer heads in the living rooms, right? LOL

Thank you so much. Holy shoes, the no fish-thing was annoying me to no end - I also thought it makes perfect sense that they would eat fish!

Thank you so much! I always wondered why mermaids got sad from eating fish, so thanks for the fix!

I didn't know this was even a thing. All my mer-Sims fish, and I even get positive buffs for them eating fresh fish, but I don't have a mod for it. I feel like I'm missing something here.

Hi there! This is a mod that changes the child of the ocean trait. That's where the negative buffs come from.

ok thank you so much for the mod but this is really disturbing that people don't seem to understand that mermaids are part fish?? like?? of course they wouldn't want to eat their own kind and it would make them sad to see them dead and hung up on walls. Also yall do realize that fish dont just eat....other fish, right? They eat algae, plant life, and vegetables too. I thought it was kinda obvious that mermaids would be carnitarian...

Why would it be obvious? That's like saying 'mammals obviously don't eat other mammal species' - which we know is not true, and there's absolutely nothing disturbing about that. Fish can be herbivorous, carnivorous, omnivorous, and detritivores, and I personally always imagined mermaids to be the same.

...This kind of makes me want to have Reward Traits with which we can set all sims' dietary preferences, occult or otherwise, now that I think about it.

I thought it would be obvious because animals don't eat their own species. Yes some mammals eat other mammals but pigs don't eat other pigs, get it? Animals eating their own species causes them to develop a myriad of diseases and yes it is disturbing to them as studies have proven it causes mental trauma. Also you honestly don't think it would be disturbing to see you're own kind dead and hung up on walls? Come on, that should be obvious.
If mermaids were half shark or half whale I would understand them eating fish and having no remorse, but these mermaids seem to be based on saltwater fish, which are predominantly omnivores and the ones that aren't only eat shrimp, plankton, or crustaceans.
And yeah a dietary preference rewards trait would be nice.

"Fish" is not a species, it's an animal group. Plus, you are comparing a genus with a whole group here.

I didn't mention anything about that in my previous comment, I was merely talking about eating fish (I personally don't condone hunting for game purely for sport). However, whether a mermaid would see any random fish species as their "own kind" is debatable, and I'd say it's up to the individual mermaid in the end. They are only half fish, after all. They could be uncomfortable, though, even without seeing them as their kin.

Also, there are fish-eating saltwater fish, so that argument is simply pointless. And sharks are fish - there's nothing saying a mermaid can't be a shark-mermaid, is there?

Guys, please stop. There's no need to have an argument and this is not the place for it.

This is a great mod! It is quite silly to have mermaids sad from eating something they'd most likely eat as other sea mammals (which mermaids seem to get characterised as - fish can't survive out of water - they suffocate since they have to get their oxygen from the water that passes through their gills) primarily eat fish. Regardless, if they were classed as fish, fish do eat other kinds of fish and even their own species of fish. Quite a lot of animal species in general (speaking in the larger term of animal, mineral, vegetable categories) are known to eat their own species. And yes, pigs will eat other pigs. They will also happily chow down on humans. Pigs aren't very fussy about what they eat and are omnivores rather than herbivores.
Its generally only humans who get all moralistic about what should/shouldn't be eaten. Everything else just eats what is available that fits their dietary requirements. Unless they are goats. Goats don't care about anything and will eat whatever they want regardless of its meant to be eaten or not. I have great memories of going to a farm as a kid with my grandpa and a goat grabbed his fabric handkerchief he'd just blown his nose on out of his pocket and just ate it. Then started back chewing on the metal fence. Silly goats.
