When you use the DirectX polygon reduction tool, click the little disc to save the changes you have made (dont forget to slide the little slider down to change the poly count). After that, make sure you compile right, you might not be getting it in game again. 9300 is way too high for such a simple object. Not incuding objects in the droors, it should be no more than 2 or 3 thousand. Keep in mind that the player will not be up close to the object, so details like the knobs on the droors can be alot lower poly.

Good work though, I like the design ^_^

Just to let you know, I'm trying (without much success) to reduce the poly count on the dresser.

Tried what Nanashi suggested, thanks for that. You learn something new everyday! Model went black in Milkshape and a very dark colour in game.

Will work on it again tomorrow, getting late here. Hope I don't have to start from scratch.

Gorgeous dresser! I'll wait until you get the poly count down to a reasonable size. Can hardly wait! You do such great work...

hed, here's a suggestion.. I couldn't try it myself because I'm lacking some necessary software. There's a free tool called VIZup that does pretty good work at reducing poly count without affecting the image too much. Might be worth a try.

I just quickly opened it in milkshape and used the directx plugin. took it down to just under 3000 poly's. then replaced the dresser file only (left the animated file and shadows as they were) still looks pretty good to me in the SimPE and milkshape 3d preview screen. I haven't tried in game. Can't at the moment my daughter is paying it on her pc, lol.
hed- try it and see if you're still happy with this lower poly version.

shoot, attachments aren't working at the moment, will try again later unless anyone has another idea? hed it you want it pm me an email addy or another site where I can upload it for you.

Well, it was the drawer knobs, fancy that. (lowers head, avoiding eye contact with others).

CynicalChick, I tried that VisUP and it reduced the polycount down to 2000. Any idea on how to get the .wrl file back into Milkshape?

Again, thanks to everyone for their suggestions and advice, much appreciated.

Now I wonder what's next. (turns back to the drawing board). lol

I was willing to sacrifice the chesterstick dresser for this one, but hopefully now I can have both! Thanks for all the great stuff!

Yay! It works now! I especially like that you can use move objects to put your end tables inside and actually put something on top of the dresser! Who wants a dresser with nothing on top!? Thank you!

I love this dresser (and the set for that matter) but my only issue with it is the mirror won't hang directly above it....it sort of sits off to the side. Is there a way to fix that, some sort of cheat code?

Use the boolProp snapObjectsToGrid false cheat to move the mirror over to the middle. When you have put it in the position you want it, be sure to turn the cheat off by typing boolProp SnapObjectsToGrid true.
