Another personal status update

Date Posted: 5th Jun 2016 at 12:47 AM

Well, my illness seems to have been successfully treated! And I didn't get diabetes or a stroke or osteoporosis or glaucoma or all that fun stuff. So now my problem is getting off prednisone after being on high to medium dosages for over a year. It's almost as bad as being sick was; because the body gets completely dependent on the pred it has to be decreased very slowly and over the last months I've had some combination of constant headaches, fatigue, severe sciatica, and back pain. Can't wait for this to be OVER.

Tool work progress

Date Posted: 27th May 2015 at 11:00 PM

I've made real progress with TS4 speculars. I'm sure they're not ending up quite as intended by EA, and the effect isn't perfect, but I can add metallic shine and hopefully more subtle effects. It'll all be in the new version of CAS Tools, which is getting into the final updates/enhancements and headed for beta testing.

Status report

Date Posted: 11th Dec 2014 at 1:23 PM

Last Wednesday I was diagnosed with Giant Cell Arteritis, aka Temporal Arteritis. This is an autoimmune disease causing inflammation of the arteries, mostly in the head but also often the aorta and sometimes the coronary artery. I'm now on medication that has relieved my symptoms but has a nasty set of possible side effects. Awaiting results of an MRI and trying to get a CT scan done to get a better idea of my situation.

Lesson learned for anyone with serious health concerns: Be your own advocate. Keep after your doctor and ask for referrals. Research your condition and participate in managing it. I've gotten far more information on this disease from the Internet than from any of the four doctors I've seen so far.

Inactivity woes

Date Posted: 20th Nov 2014 at 7:44 PM

I've been in another phase of inactivity because I've been sick for weeks - constant headaches, near-constant fever, fatigue, general ickyness. My doctor has no clue and is on the second round of tests. It's very discouraging.

It's a conspiracy!

Date Posted: 24th Nov 2013 at 11:48 PM

It's always something! Now one of my eyes has a big freaking floater almost in the center of my field of vision, plus occasional flying dark spots and flashes. It's distracting and makes working at the computer more tiring than usual. I've had it checked out and it'll probably improve in a few weeks and/or I'll learn to ignore it.

Kitten update, modding update

Date Posted: 9th Nov 2013 at 8:20 PM

The kitty situation is all resolved: I ended up keeping the mom and two kittens, my BFF took two kittens, a friend of her family took one, and I had to give the last two to North Shore Animal League. It felt like handing over my own babies for adoption, but I just couldn't keep them. North Shore is an excellent no-kill shelter that screens adopters and assured me the kittens would be taken in a matter of weeks. I'll think of them always and hope they both are in loving homes.

With all the turmoil and stress this summer and fall, I've been terribly lazy about modding. However, now I've started converting Tattooinator for .NET and it's interesting enough to keep me going. Another nice thing about this project is that it involves applying presets to a DDS image, so once I get that working I may be able to do 3D previews of clothing and other CAS Parts.

Finding homes for kittens isn't easy!

Date Posted: 29th Jun 2013 at 2:48 PM

I've started a blog for the litter of kittens I rescued, who urgently need homes in the New York area. I could transport them a reasonable distance. If any of you Sims fans want a kitten, please post a reply! If you know anyone who might want one, please pass this along.

Momma Eve could have had a normal number of babies, but nooooo - she had SEVEN.

Inactivity lately

Date Posted: 6th May 2013 at 10:59 PM

Again I haven't been very productive recently, for various reasons. I've been in a slump, and now am stressing out because my mother is having surgery and I'm going to be spending a lot of time caring for her afterwards. Plus it looks like I'm going to be rescuing a pregnant cat and have the headaches of finding homes for the kittens.

RL doesn't take a holiday

Date Posted: 20th Jan 2013 at 12:48 PM

I've been kind of inactive recently because one of my cats was seriously ill and needed a lot of care. He had cancer and treatment seemed unlikely to restore any meaningful quality of life. Yesterday I made the painful choice to let him go peacefully and painlessly. Rest in Peace, sweet Salem.

Happy Holidays!

Date Posted: 23rd Dec 2012 at 3:12 AM

Whatever holidays you celebrate, or if you don't celebrate any, have a good one! Tomorrow I'm off to visit parents and brother, and have been on a binge of cleaning, preparations, cards, pre-travel nerves, etc.

Got the adult male pregnancy update done a couple days ago, and the teen one is ready to go as soon as testing and pictures are done. Might be able to post tomorrow morning before heading out, otherwise it'll have to wait a few days more.
