The Return of the XFL

Date Posted: 9th Dec 2006 at 3:45 PM

I know I posted about them before, but the project is quickly coming to light. Considering there are (were) only 8 teams it shouldn't be too hard to pull off. I doubt I'll put any names on the jerseys (cuz like who the heck can remember any of them), but they'll be kinda funky to have around.

As an added bonus I'm going to experiment with a different mesh this time. The goal is to make a full outfit that is compatible for all the expansions. I did my NFL division sets using a University mesh and while the response has been awesome (thanks everyone ) there still have been many who have been requesting base install tops. I have no problem with that. Everyone wants to share the fun....

however... people.... meaning those who request base install tops.. please bear this in mind before asking me for one. I've done over 100 NFL jerseys in the span of a month and change. Do you really think I'm going to repeat the process for base install gamers? That's asking a bit much dontcha think?

University is just 20 bucks. Hell you could probably find it even cheaper on Amazon if you poke around. Why not snag it and enhance your overall gameplay?

.... now I'm gonna go look for my Maxis Advertising paycheck....

Yes yes, I've come back from my Sabatical and I come bearing good news. It was my birthday yesterday so I decided to give gifts this year rather than receive.

Currently there are several uploads of requets in the moderation queue.

Four College Team Jersey Sets...

a Steelers base install Jersey pack....

custom base install NFL jerseys...

and of course, some throwback players/jerseys for the University Mesh Full outfit jerseys.

Hopefully they'll pass inspection soon and everyone can have fun. N-joy!

RULES FOR REQUESTING JERSEYS

Date Posted: 26th Nov 2006 at 5:15 PM

Note: Updated 3/22/2007
Ok... here (once again) are my official rules for submitting a jersey request. You must follow these rules if you want a jersey (or jersey set) done or else I will not respond and your request PM will be deleted. I've received far too many PMs that follow little or none of the directions I've laid out. I'm not trying to be a pr*ck, but this is free-time-goodwill-I'm-a-nice-guy work I'm doing and in order to do that I need these directions followed.

So here goes:
  1. College jersey requests are tops only (no exceptions). I typically do a set of home and away jerseys for both male and female adults. If you want to play around with SimPE and adjust them to be for Young Adults as well (if they're not already), be my guest. Note - I am not actively doing American Football related jerseys as of 3/1/2007 therefore requests for college jerseys will be queued until I get a chance to do them. Translation: It'll be an extremely long wait.
  2. When requesting a college jersey, I need image links to the jerseys and the names/numbers of either the players you want or the most popular ones at the time. I don't have the time to be researching who's hot. If the school doesn't have names on their jerseys, then I still want the number of the desired players. If not, then the request will be ignored and deleted.
  3. When requesting an NFL jersey (for males) specify if you want it to be Home or Away and which player/number you want. If you don't specify these things your request will be ignored and deleted. Remember this is for the University Mesh full outfits only. Note - I am not actively doing American Football related jerseys as of 3/1/2007 therefore requests for college jerseys will be queued until I get a chance to do them. Translation: It'll be an extremely long wait.
  4. When requesting an NFL jersey (for females) specify which team and top 3 players you want done. Since the ladies need to catch up with the guys in jerseys I'll most likely do the Home, Away and Alternate (if available) as a set. If you don't specify these things your request will be ignored and deleted. Remember this is for the University Mesh full outfits only.
  5. My NFL jerseys (male and female) use University meshes so you need to (of course) have University installed in order to use them. I am no longer doing Base Install tops for the NFL (custom or authentic). End of story.
  6. As of 3/22/2007 there are no requests being accepted for male or female hockey jerseys. Divisional sets are being created with current players on current teams. After the sets are completed I may open up the channel for requests but that will be addressed at a later time.
  7. And remember, never ever never post anything I've created on the Exchange. Never redistribute my work without either contacting me or giving me the appropriate credit. Never put any of my content on a paysite (cuz that's blasphemy) and absolutely never pawn my work off as your own. I put a lot of time and effort into making fun free things for everyone to enjoy. Pirating my work will just make me not do it anymore.

I can't stress enough the importance of just complying with these few rules. I really dig making these sports related clothes, but we need to cooperate in order to pull it off. I typically get things done fast (as any of the people who have requested stuff will agree with) so the least you can do is put a little research into your request before PMing me.

We'll all be happy in the end. :D

I'm outta here...

Date Posted: 20th Nov 2006 at 1:57 PM

... but not for good. Just for the Holidays.

As it stands I've got Thanksgiving coming up. Shortly after that (like about a week and change to be percise) my birthday drops. Then as we all know X-mas is not too far off in the distance.

And let's not forget New Years about a week after that...

While I don't expect to be MIA the whole month I do expect to be off the board until at least 27th in regards to responding to requests. I truly do love the response I've received from my "Jersey series". It's the support that's made me continue so when you thank me, thank yourselves as well for being good people.

Since we're on the topic of jerseys I figure I'd post my rules here and jot down what's currently on my mind:
  1. College jersey requests are tops only at this point in time (no exceptions). The good news is that I typically do a set of home and away jerseys for both males and females. All are for adults. If you want to play around with SimPE and adjust them to be for Young Adults as well (if they're not already), be my guest.
  2. If requesting a college jersey, I need image links to the jerseys and the names/numbers of either the players you want or the most popular ones at the time.
  3. My NFL jerseys use a University mesh so you need to (of course) have University installed in order to use them. However, NFL jerseys can also be done as just Base Install Tops if requested (but considering I just did over 90 something jerseys for the NFL it will not be a high priority request).
  4. When requesting an NFL jersey remember to specify if you want it to be Home or Away and which player/number you want. I now have templates for all 30 teams with all their jersey variants so it's not that hard to pull off that request. Remember this is for the University Mesh full outfits only.
  5. For the ladies requesting NFL jerseys, they are done as Base Install Tops only at this point in time. I have yet to find a good Base Install full outfit mesh that works well for a jersey. Like the college jerseys, please specify what team and player. More than likely you'll automatically receive a home and away jersey.
  6. And remember, never ever never post anything I've created on the Exchange. Never redistribute my work without either contacting me or giving me the appropriate credit. And absolutely never pawn my work off as your own. I put a lot of time and effort into making fun free things for everyone to enjoy. Pirating my work will just make me not do it anymore.

As far as what's coming soon to the "shop", expect to see the following in the next month or so:

XFL full jersey outfits
CFL jerseys
NFL Europe jerseys

Stay tuned and keep Simming.

Player Salaries - Part 1 - The Rant

Date Posted: 20th Nov 2006 at 1:19 AM

While getting prepared for my much needed vacation, I found myself sifting through Yahoo's newswire. I came across an article that stirred up my long dormant ire about pro sport player salaries. (For those interested the aticle is here).

I don't even want to get into the social commentary aspect of player salaries in comparison to us everyday human beings. We all know they get paid well beyond the scope of rational thought.

That's a given.

Since we've accepted that these athletes get paid obscene amounts of money, I want to address the Big Three - Baseball, Football (American) and Basketball. Now I know pro basketball and baseball supporters will try and burn me at the stake for the claims I'm about to make, but so be it. I've never been one to hold my opinion back.

Without a doubt in my mind, football is the BY FAR the more physically and mentally demanding sport of the three. *ducks shots*

I don't say this from an Armchair Quarterback's perspective. I used to play... and I was damn good. Unfortunately injury prevented me from going further than I did, but I learned an awful lot in that time span. It taught me that in football your career can be over just as quickly as it got started. That concept alone should garner a higher payrate than any baseball or basketball player.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not taking anything away from baseball and basketball players. They ARE pure athletes (unlike golfers...*ducks shots again*). I'm just saying in regards to the enviorment of play, the level of contact, severity of the injuries, pure physical strength and mental endurance required football players should be the ones having these $136 million dollar contracts.

It's disturbing that a NBA league minimum contract for a free agent player with NO experience rings in somewhere at about 470k. The league minimum for a free agent NFL player isn't even 180k. Where's the justice in that?

I dunno... maybe I'm just biased because of my playing experience. Maybe if I played at the same level in baseball or basketball, maybe I'd have more respect for the wages they get paid.

Regardless...for some reason getting paid $136 million to hit a round ball with a round bat somehow doesn't seem right. Maybe if I had a few more drinks it'd seem right....

Go Blue!

Date Posted: 19th Nov 2006 at 2:49 AM

I swear... I hate and love being a sports fan. I know.. I sound like Gollum, but still. It's such an rush to be caught up in the hype of Rivaly Week. I've been a Wolverine fan since ...hmm... I'd have to say '94. I made a road trip up to Ann Arbor with a couple of buddies to go catch a game. I had never been to a collegiate game prior to that. I've seen a couple NFL games but boooy... nothing really compares to a University Tailgate Party.

Great food. Quirky people. Wild stories... oh and like alcohol everywhere. I have never seen so much alcohol in my life. I'm not a prude. I don't look down on drinkers cuz I am a drinker myself; a social drinker. Never have I drank alone, but if you put me with drinkers... I can drink like a fish. Course in a setting like a tailgate party, it can test the mettle of even the most confident alcoholic.

I don't remember who played that day.... or how or when we did get into the stadium... or when the game ended.... or who even won for that matter. All I do remember was that the wonderful residents of the University of Ann Arbor Michigan welcomed a couple of wide eyed New Yorkers with open arms.

Since then I've always been a devoted fan and supporter of the Wolverines.

Rest in peace Coach Schembechler. We'll miss you.

Wow. What a programming nightmare that was for NBC, huh? I love Vince McMahon though. He's my business IDOL. That man knows how to make money and not lose it. I especially love the way he put all the liability in NBC's hands so that when it crumbled, he really took no damage from it. Brilliant!

I've been a closet wrestling fan for almost 2 decades. I go back to the days of Jesse "The Body" Ventura and the Junkyard Dog. I remember once telling my girlfriend I'd finally admit to being a wrestling fan if she'd buy me the World Heavyweight Championship Belt.

Needless to say I got the look...

When I first caught wind of the XFL I, like many, didn't expect much. It had a fun concept "WWF meets the NFL" and some interesting players (anyone remember He Hate Me? ). I think the fact that they got to "name" themselves was downright hilarious. If only I could have done that when I played. At best, the XFL ended up being a poor man's NFL Europe (and lord knows they're pretty poor quality as it is). Regardless it left us with a few choice memories and of course the NFL Field Cam (aka the XFL Cam).

I guess something good did come from that league...

In the future they shall be immortalized in the Sims 2 when I make their respective jerseys.

The CFL

Date Posted: 15th Nov 2006 at 3:56 PM

I've put a lot of thought into the Canadian Football League. I visit Canada on a regular basis so I'm very familiar with the teams and the fans. It's a very popular American myth that Canadians love hockey and nothing else. Canadians are just like everyone else in the world; they love all sports. Just as we Americans dub baseball the National Past Time, Canadians do the same for Hockey. While it's wildly popular up there and their devotion unrelenting, there are just as many who take to football as "their" sport.

I guess we here in the States just don't appreciate the ballers up there because of the overwhelming popularity of the NFL. I know I've been in many heated debates with fellow Sport Nuts about the CFL being the place where "NFL players go to die". That's a harsh and unfounded statement, in my opinion. True there's a lot of former NFL players and prospects in the CFL, but the are the minority. Canadian universities actually produce a lot of talented, young players who end up having long, productive, record setting careers. The only problem with the CFL is in the way it is handled from a marketing standpoint. With hockey being such a dominating force in terms of promotion, it doesn't leave much room for any other sport to shine. Add to the that the fact that CFL isn't a merchandising industry like the NFL, it's no wonder why it's on the rocks.

Regardless, they do have some pretty snazzy uniforms so I think in the near future I'll definitely represent for my Canadian Sim playing bretheren and make my much talked about CFL Jersey Set.
