TS2 Foundation Wall behaviour Basic Build tutorial
Hi all,

This tutorial is about how foundation walls can be used from my experiences so far.

I hope it may be helpful to you as well...

Something to add:

Sorry for my confusing description at the part of "sci-fi-like transition of the sims passing through the windows". I should have separated that from the others.
Please not to confuse ["moveobject"-enabled windows as a stand-a-lone without walls or foundation] with ["moveobject"-enabled windows on foundation walls].

The "sci-fi-like transition of the sims passing through the windows" is done by the former, ["moveobject"-enabled windows as stand-a-lone without walls or foundation].

Nevertheless, ["moveobject"-enabled windows or doors on foundation walls] can make foundation walls work as [normal default walls with windows or doors].

Where do I place it or how do I open the 7Z file to view? (after it's unzipped)

Thanks for reminding me of the steps to decompress the file. I've forgotten to provide the info.

The following is the instruction:

F1. unzip the zip downloaded file with zip-supported compressor or above or else by right-clicking and "extract...(whichever way)"
F2. you'll find a file with an extension ".7z" or called 7-zip. just decompress/extract it as if it's "rar" or "zip" when WinRAR >=3.41, 7-zip-manager >=3, IZArc >=3.5, power archiver >=9, ZipGenius >=6 or else... by right-clicking and "extract...(whichever way)"

Basically, the method to decompress 7-zip archives is the same as "zip" and "rar" lol...

quasim,

Thanks for taking the time to read it.

Just remember different means have different limitations. This is not an exception.

niol, do you have any idea what to do with swimming pools? is it possible to make 'inhabitable' swimmingpools? I tried to fiddle with the walls.txt but to no avail.

Wow, that's a neat idea! :moose:
I didn't think of it though possible in certain ways.

First of all, one has to know there're 2 major ways to make swimmble regions and one simple fact about the property of the "moveobject-cheat-enabled pool accessaries" that they're the ones responsible for the swimming animations of sims. And they work on an upper level rather than on the same level. In other words, the swimming pool tool itself is basiclly a level made under the ground level and is only responsible for the look of a swimming pool and a boundry to limit where sims can swim while having no connection to the swimming animations of sims! And, I've not known of a way on how to build or place a door on a level under the ground level yet.

One major way to make swimmable regions has already been mentioned by Fat D and Jonesi, which is known as the fake pool approach.

how to build a swimming pool upstairs (check out Fat D's posts...)

Upper level/roof "fake" pool tutorial.. (Jonesi )
http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=94588

For this type of pools, you'll only have to add the doors on the fake pool walls. Then, get some sims in the swimming pools fooling around while some swimming above! That's alreay the simplest way.

The another major way to make swimmable regions is a little bit more complicated. You'll have to have the knowledge and skills of all the mentioned above, plus reading this tutorial by Metranisome.

Creating pools on multiple floor levels [tutorial]
http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=83325

This one is much trickier but not hard to approach once you understand how the pool and its accessories behave in game. Note that I was told that the pool layers is no longer makable under EP2-NL (coz Maxis has made the pool tool almost like the foundation tools for EP2-NL while boolprop constrainfloorelevation doesn't do well with this new pool tool).

So, for those wanting a more realistic aerial pool has to use a system without EP2 to make it! :moose:

If it's possible to make a connection link from the base game copy of the game system to the pool tool menu of EP2-NL as an additional pool tool, I'm still unsure of whether it'll remain to behave the ways expected while not conflicting the EP2-NL pool tools. It's gonna take some tests.

Argh, I just realised Metranisome hasn't finished the updates on his tutorial yet. So, for the present, try the approach Fat D and Jonesi have mentioned so far... It should work under EP2-NL.

Update!
Lol, another approach can be by means of the water tool!

Is there anyway to open this file without having a zip extractor program of some sort? An online version on this tute, perhaps?

Partially yes, just follow the following suggestions, and they're compression suite that can open several compression formats.

F1. unzip the zip downloaded file with zip-supported compressor or above or else by right-clicking and "extract...(whichever way)"
F2. you'll find a file with an extension ".7z" or called 7-zip. just decompress/extract it as if it's "rar" or "zip" when WinRAR >=3.41, 7-zip-manager >=3, IZArc >=3.5, power archiver >=9, ZipGenius >=6 or else... by right-clicking and "extract...(whichever way)"

May install and use one of these to decompress the files.
