I swear I thought I had the weekend. I checked back, saw jones said Friday and nearly panicked. While I'm barely managing to survive my new work schedule, I haven't figured out how to work it so I still have time for sims in the evening. I haven't even been able to load my game since last Wednesday. I wanted to spend a bit more time fixing things in my house (like I removed a door to the upstairs bathroom without noticing and had intended to replace it and rearrange the room), but I get the feeling this is the best I'm going to get it for now.
Back two weeks ago when I still had all the time in the world I made the family and had intended to play them and the others in the hood till we got to the 'starting point' of the descriptions. Unfortunately, this didn't happen, so while the second bedroom is supposed to be a guest room for when the grown kids come to visit, its still set up as their bedroom. Only the first of the five kids has aged up and moved out. He and his bride-to-be snapped up the application house and are starting to get settled. Stacie (of the twins family) is now the oldest teenager in the house, followed by a son who was needed to bring this family to a count of 5 kids, then Johanna (of the HS sweethearts family) just recently grew up to a child, and Lora (of the live-in Mother-in-law family) is now a toddler, so I still have a ways to go on that yet.
And now for the pictures, cuz that's what we all want to see anyways.
In case the judges were wondering, I do actually change the outside wallpapers, even though it does look extremely similar to the original.
I'm totally in love with the little pond in the back. I don't think it holds a candle to some of the others I've seen in this round, but it's definitely the best one I've ever done, so I'm pleased.
Stepping inside the house you will see that I've reversed the two main rooms because I use the fireplace as my kitchen stove. This gives a large area for the main feature of the house, the dinning room table. Living rooms as we know them today were far less common back then, and the eating area was the main room to gather. As per the family description, I've got a large knick-knack cabinet for all of the various trinkets that have been amassed through the years. The bookcase cleverly takes up the extra space behind the stairs so the back door isn't blocked.
The kitchen is the heart of the house. With the week of playing I was able to do, I've made sure that the kitchen is usable and suited to serve a family of 7.
Moving on to the bedrooms now, the master is quite spacious and even includes a luxury item - a chess set. While the children are still in the house the washing station was moved forward and a toddler bed was put in it's place, but this will be how it will be arranged as soon as Lora becomes a child and moves into the room next door.
Green is the family color. I believe loosing a few points for ditching the door are well worth it for the layout I was able to achieve in the bedroom. While I don't have a picture of it, the small upstairs room is a sewing room complete with a sewing machine and hanging rack. The Lady of the house is already a Silver Seamstress, and Stacie is working her way up as well.
The 'guest' room, or the children's room. Last week the large bed was occupied by Hugh and his little brother Richard, with Stacie sleeping in the spare bed (see next pic), but with Hugh recently moving out and Johanna aging up, the two girls will take the large bed and Richard will move to the spare. When Stacie moves out of the house soon and Lora ages up, the large bed will remain the girl's bed. Richard's days of sibling bed sharing are over.
The spare bed is in its own private alcove. The screen was originally placed to provide teenage Stacie with some privacy from her brothers. It continues to the the only thing separating the genders of the kids. The edging lines in the floor allow for the required privacy to use the chamber pots. Without it, someone would get woken up and shooed from their bed just so their sib could tinkle. By the way, the is also an outhouse in the back and a rainwater bucket shower, though the entire family is used to sponge bathing at their bedroom wash basins.
I'm looking forward to using the weekend to catch back up with the rest of you. I'm excited for round 2!
