Lara and Josh have recently acquired a roommate, Josh's mother Edna. Edna and Lara don't always get along, but they are trying to for Josh. Edna just can't live by herself anymore. She doesn't really like only having a bedroom to herself. And her country taste clashes with Lara's more contemporary style. BONUS Edna would like to have her own sitting room.
Lara and Josh bought part of the grounds of an old manor house, which the owner couldn't afford to keep. The larger building was the gardener's cottage, and the smaller one the pool house. The original plan was to use the pool house as a guest house, perhaps renting it out in the summer, but that plan's gone out of the window now they have Josh's mother, Edna, as a permanent guest.
The garden was originally almost completely taken up by the pool, but Josh and Lara wanted a garden as well, so they had half of it filled in, hence the rounded corners are only at one end. The old kitchen garden has been redug, ready for someone to give it a little TLC.
In Edna's house, her old recliner has pride of place by the fire. There's also a sofa if Josh and Lana ever care to vist, and a kitchenette where Edna can make her own hot drinks and microwave meals, although she usually eats with Josh and Lana, as she enjoys criticising Lana's cooking.
Lana decided to use the fireplace in the middle of the room downstairs as a feature rather than a hinderance. A cozy living area is formed around it, and Lana just loves the coat rack Josh put up beside the door.
A breakfast bar also helps separate the kitchen and living areas. Lana likes eating here better than the table, but when Edna's over, Josh insists they use the table.
Both bathrooms (not pictured as it's too hard to get the camera in) are fully fitted; Edna's contains a separate bath and shower, whereas Josh and Lana's features a bath-shower combo.
Edna's bedroom is a haven for her, free from that meddling Lara's "contemporary" tastes.
Whilst the master bedroom shows off Lana's modern style.
Although Lana made most of the decorating decisions in the house, there was one room where she allowed Josh free reign; his study. Here, he can escape from his wife and mother, and the inspiring musician in him can plug his keyboard into the computer and make music.
♫Cuz I don't have a home in this life, I have to roam. Got nowhere to lay my head, so I'll follow you instead, and set my gaze on the place I'm going to. Til then I'm homeless, but I'll roam with you...♫
